Kio Hayakawa – NORA Cup 2022 Flatland Rider of the Year

October 2, 2022

Kio Hayakawa is flatland rider of the year!

The NORA Cup 2022 winner videos continue to flow! Here’s a look at the video celebrating Kio Hayakawa winning the Flatland Rider of the Year award! Check out a bunch of dialed riding, some words from people that voted for him, along with a look at how Kio accepted the award since he wasn’t able to make it to Hastings for the party.

“The 2022 NORA Cup for Flatland Rider of the Year goes to Kio Hayakawa!! Kio links some of the hardest trick combos in the game with style and precision, He is pushing Flatland to new levels daily. This is Kio’s second year in a row winning a NORA Cup for Flat and he is showing no signs of slowing down.

Congrats Kio!!

It’s no short feat to be nominated for Flatland Rider of the Year, so we also want to congratulate Alex Jumelin, Terry Adams, Yu Katagiri, and Yu Shoji on their nominations.

We also want to sincerely thank the brands that allow NORA Cup to happen: Monster, Source BMX, Tubolito, odi, Vans, Fly Bikes, S One Helmets, S&M, Fit Bike Co, Alienation, kink BMX, cinema, The Shadow Conspiracy, Subrosa, Odyssey, Sunday, Vans, GT Bikes, Haro, Hyper, and Snafu. This is a labor of love for us, but it does cost money and the brands I just listed are, quite literally, keeping it going.” – Our BMX

Brian Tunney – September 2022 Clips

October 2, 2022

New month, new Brian Tunney video!

It’s October! With every new month, we get a new Brian Tunney to start things off right! As always, Brian delivers with a ton of solid flatland riding and music selection to enjoy. Check out what Brian cooked up for clips during his garage sessions, then check out more details about each clip below!

“A few weeks ago, following the proliferation of undertakers I post on Instagram, Canadian flatland legend Shane Neville (of Flatland Manifesto and Ronin) suggested I try to add a cancan to the end of undertakers.

Thirty days later, this is the result. It’s a hodge podge of undertakers, randomness, one wall bounce and some old school BMX things I hadn’t done in a few years. And, instead of stressing over next to impossible tricks, I had fun with the oldies.

Here’s a quick rundown if you’re curious:

1. The first barspin undertaker to cancan I landed.
2. The first double barspin undertaker to cancan I landed. (while it was raining outside, hence the weird angle)
3. The same stupid rolling combo I usually do, but this time, I grab the frame on the invisible hand part.
4. Tailwhip to undertaker to one-foot long rope-a-roni. (I need more space to roll this further.)
5. Tailwhip to undertaker to cancan.
6. Cancan to undertaker to cancan. (Kinda stupid but oh well.)
7. Peg wheelie to undertaker. (Super old but still fun.)
8. Peg wheelie to undertaker to cancan in a really stupid hat. (I was having trouble getting this right and then thought, if you wear the dumb hat, you’ll land it first try. That was unfortunately a correct assumption.)
9. Half-hiker to dave duster to fire hydrant to backward hitchhiker to wall bounce inspired by Mark Lewman’s sequence from Freestylin’ over 30 years ago.
10. Footjam to smoothie boomerang smith decade thing.
11. Squeaker to undertaker.
12. Shane’s original trick request: Throw a cancan in between the undertaker and smith decade. I thought this would take a few months to get right but it only took an hour and five minutes.

Until October, keep your feet on the pegs but keep reaching for the stars…” – Brian Tunney

Jake Calhoun Shouts At The Devil

September 30, 2022

Jake Calhoun throws down some dialed park riding!

It’s always rad checking out a video from a rider we’re not too familiar with. Jake Calhoun is a newer name to us, but it’s clear he’s a shredder. Check out this fresh video where Jake puts his deep bag of tricks to work at a bunch of parks, a little street and roof drop action and a few clips from shows. Jake took a pretty heavy slam that took him off the bike, but it looks like he had a ton of great clips stacked before he was sidelined. Take a look!

September 30, 2022

Bloom Week at Woodward West!

The Bloom BMX ladies have been on FIRE this year throwing events all over. Earlier this summer they had Bloom Week At Woodward East, and now they’ve jumped on to the west coast to throw another one at Woodward West. Check out over 6 minutes of riding footage, giveaways and good times that were had! There are so many ladies crushing it on bikes these days and it’s so good to see.

“This year we had the opportunity to hold a second Bloom Week at Woodward West. It was our first inaugural Bloom Week West which was also happening during Girls Week. Bloom Week is a dedicated week for women’s BMX, it’s an opportunity for the next generation to ride with pros and for the pros to mentor the next generation.

This year’s Woodward West guests included Natalya Diehm from Australia, Emma Finnegan from the United Kingdom, Duda Penso from Brazil and of course your staple Bloom BMX pros were there, including Cory Coffey, Angie Marino and Maca Grasset. Last but not least, big thanks to our designated Bloom Week Coach Allie Wolfe, who provided a memorable experience for the campers.

Enjoy this edit which captures the fun and stoke that the ladies had during Bloom Week! Keep your eyes on TheBloomBMX.com for 2023 registration dates for Bloom Week at Woodward Camp!” – The Bloom BMX
