35 Years of Etnies

January 4, 2021

The crew at Etnies are celebrating 35 years this year! Although they’ve been primarily a skate brand, they have done a lot with and for BMX since 1995 when they signed Rooftop as their first BMX rider. Since then, there has been a lot of BMX history because of Etnies’ support from Pro riders to signature shoes, events they supported like the Backyard Jam, to the 3 amazing full-length videos Forward, Grounded and Chapters! Here’s a video where Etnies owner Pierre André Senizergues tells the story of how it all started, along with some of the highlights from different shoes, to different programs like the Buy A Shoe, Plant A Tree program, to their partnership with Michelin and more. It’s pretty wild to think about how much they’ve done over the years.

This doesn’t have much about BMX in it, but it’s still worth a look because this is an interesting story for sure! It also sounds like 2021 is going to be a big year for the brand as a whole, so get ready!

“35 YEARS OF ETNIES 1986-2021

PAST

It started for me with a simple push on a skateboard in Paris, France. As my pro skate life progressed, I was skating through shoes, and knew skaters needed something better. I wanted to find new ways to advance skateboarding. Only a skateboarder could know our footwear needs, and it was time for shoes designed by skaters for skaters. Since etnies begin in France in ’86, the company has continued to innovate as the first skateboarder-owned and operated global footwear company.

PRESENT

35 years since etnies started we continue to support the skateboard, snowboard, surf, BMX and MTB communities. Fueled by passion, we are still pushing the boundaries and giving back. This year marks etnies’ milestones of planting more than 2 million trees in the rainforest and providing 50,000 pairs of shoes to the homeless.

FUTURE

As the world around us rapidly changes, the one thing that won’t change is our push to continuously create the most innovative products that provide the most style, comfort and protection.

THANK YOU skateboarding and THANK YOU to everyone who has been part of the etnies journey of the past, present and future.

Cheers,
Pierre André Senizergues

Hobie Doan – Spot Crusher

January 4, 2021

You already know Hobie Doan is going to deliver when he goes out cruising spots. Here’s a raw cut of clips he filmed during a super productive day of riding while visiting Long Beach. Absolutely crushed it! Take a loo.

“Hobie Doan is a machine when it comes to filming—point him at a spot and he just goes to town. He rolled through Long Beach recently and fired out 5 clips at each spot he hit—clocking 15 clips in an afternoon. Must be nice!

Kyle lays down a bunch of grinds, wallrides and more on a good mix of spots. The film work on this one is also real clean. Hit play and take a look!

“Mike Zinger has been on a filming mission recently, and now he’s got another sick one via British Columbia resident Kyle White. Such a sick variety of stuff throughout this. Enjoy!

Christian Gattinger “Bad News”

January 4, 2021

It’s never good getting bad news, but fortunately this new one from Freedom BMX featuring Christian Gattinger isn’t actually bad news at all. Hit play for over 2 minutes of action from the streets of Germany!

“Here are some leftovers from Christian Gattinger’s entry to our Bangers Freestyle Film Festival for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Servus, here comes the new video from Christian Gattinger! The 360-degree team driver has rummaged through his hard drive and discovered some previously unpublished clips of himself and his filmmaker homies. Thick shoutout at this point to the three. You really did a great job on Christian’s Bangers video!

Most of the clips for the video above, which is a kind of Bangers leftover edit, were stacked by the guys in Landshut, Freising and Munich in summer 2020. A few beers and snippets of newspaper later “Bad News” was ready. Christian was of the opinion that since you read almost only negative in the newspaper at the moment, the title actually fits quite well. He is not entirely wrong about that.

The result is reminiscent of the design of the “Fake News” tape by the Ciao crew, so you are in good company. What the two videos also have in common is that they are driven in a refreshingly calm street. Anyone who is enthusiastic about grind sports should definitely take a look here. Yeww!

“Anthony continues to pump multiple edits out year after year. Heavy hitter for sure. Heres some of the work put in through 2020. Enjoy!

Filmed/Edited by: Raphael Rodrigues: @ralphyrodrigues” – Merritt

Fraser Watt 2020

January 4, 2021

When he’s not putting in work on the graphic design side of things for BSD, Fraser Watt is putting in work on his bike. Here’s a look at what he threw down during some of his sessions over the course of 2020 between a bunch of parks and street spots. This has a real solid mix of tricks on a few different bike setups, making for a great watch.

Eoin Flynn – A Day In Dublin

January 4, 2021

It’s been a little while since we’ve seen Eoin Flynn‘s name pop up on a video. Here’s a look at what he got in during a day of riding at the park in Dublin, Ireland. This one has a pretty chill vibe to it, but it’s a solid watch. Take a peek!

“Filmed over a somewhat damp a dreary day Dublin. Too cold and miserable for the streets Eoin Flynn takes off to Cork Street skatepark & does what he does best.

Filmed & edited by Jake Ryan.”
