Drew York Interview

August 11, 2008

With all the recent stuff Drew had been producing I knew that I had to get him an interview. It just so happens that he had a pretty bad accident recently so he has been on the chill list and had time to fill us in. So enjoy, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Name:
Drew Orendorff, “Drew York”

Location:
Moline, Illinois

Sponsors:
Standard Bykes, Goodtimes Superstore, Team Iowa

Years Riding:
11. Half my life

To start out, you recently had a pretty good crash that left your arm real ripped up. What exactly happened to cause this and what is wrong with your arm?
I was in Tulsa Oklahoma and I found a small gap to rail. We went to film it a couple times but at the bottom was a truck so we would come back. One day we went and the truck was still there but i looked at it and figured i could make it work. (Which wasn’t the case). I hopped on a curb on the left then jumped to the right onto the rail. I grinded down the rail and leaned too far over and I had to jump off. I landed on the hood of the truck, rolled a bit, and my hand smashed through the windshield. We then rushed to the ER and I was in surgery pretty quick. I ended up with 147 stitches.

Why did they put a cast on your arm that looks like an uncircumcised penis?
The first cast I had was a pretty good resemblance to that huh! hahaha Actually I can’t move or feel my fingers so they sort of bent them into whatever position they wanted. I didnt break anything but the nerves and tendons need to regenerate without any movement, hence the cast.

How are things going with Standard these days. When can we expect to see some Drew York signature goods? Any videos, road trips, or anything planned for once your all healed up?
Standard is doing awesome. We have the new machine shop up and running and they are pumping out product left and right. As for any signature products I haven’t got to talk much about that yet but I do have some ideas and also my own custom frame that is pretty dialed I might say. I have heard wind of maybe some euro trippin some time in the near future so im pumped on gettin back on my bike.

How about the rest of the sponsors? Any new sponsors in the works? trips, videos, product once you get rolling again?
No new sponsors as of yet. Im just looking forward to healing up, doing all of my rehab, and then gettin back into some shreddin.

It seems like you came out of nowhere with some amazing web videos lately, have you stepped up your game or has there just been a camera around more these days?
I guess its a little of both. I am lucky to have two of my good friends filming a lot,(Tony Malouf and Miles Rogoish) so we try to ride together as much as possible. Also I have the priviledge of shooting photos with Justin Kosman whenever he comes home and we run into each other on the road as well.

You have been doing a little traveling lately too, I know you were in Tulsa when you got jacked up. Where all have you been lately?
Yeah I was in Tulsa for around a month and a half. Before that was a roadtrip from home out to Santa Barbara then up to Lake tahoe in January. I also went to Austin in February for a couple weeks. We hit up Jellystone campgrounds and the skatepark they have there right before tulsa too.

Where would you like to get to once you can get on that BMX again?
I would love to go back out to NYC sometime soon and hopefully I can get over to the UK before next summer. Basically I just want to keep traveling and riding new spots. People seem to be into this question.

What is your best story involving you and cops/security/hookers/homeless people/midgets/angry pedestrians while out riding?
I have quite a few but a good one was 3 years ago in NYC after a chill sesh at the brooklyn banks we were sitting in front of a pizza place and some homeless lady starts arguing with us for sitting out front of the shop. Im not gonna say we didnt give her any shit but the lady then took some keys, put them between her fingers and started swinging at me. She chased us for about 2 blocks after that.

Who all is in the crew that you are typically seen riding with? Also where could you usually be found riding?
If im in town im with Danny Gordon, Chuck Walters, Brad Whitcomb, and Justin Ferguson when im riding. We are either at the Davenport skatepark or downtown moline or davenport hittin the street spots. Out of town the crew is Miles, Tony, Russel Wadlin, and Jake Giesel. We could be anywhere at anytime.ahahahaha

What is it that gets you motivated to do a big rail or something a little to crazy?
I just look at a spot for a little bit to figure it out then just think about how psyched I will be when I pull it. Then charge. I guess sometimes thats why i do get hurt pretty bad.

Out of the whole Standard crew, who are your favorites and why?
I love riding with Russ, Jeremiah, Rick, Jaimy Spritzer, Benny, Jonah, all the UK guys. I dunno, we have fun shreddin when the whole team is together.

What is your dream set up at a spot to ride and why?
I like wierd set up rails and anything you can full pedal at. Maybe a huge step up Euro gap with a flat rail on top. hahah

What are some things BMX could use less of, and what could it use more of?
Less stocking caps.Less swans. Maybe some more chrome.

How do you feel about bike games to play like foot down and b-i-k-e? Do you have any of your own games you play?
I dont have any of my own but I grew up and worked at Rampage Skatepark and we played the shit out of some footdown. I think i beat Brian Vowell once head to head. Just sayin.

Where do you think you would be right now if you never picked up a bike?
Probably not in debt to hospitals. hahahah No but I could be anywhere. I guess im glad I chose this way. Im really into art so maybe something with that.

Outside of riding what are you up to?
A lot of chilling. Actually I am starting up a new project with my room mate right now. We are going to be doing a new clothing and accessories company. No name so far, but we have a lot of ideas and a great direction with it. We should have some product in the next few months online and out in some flyers and catalogs. It wont just be a t shirt company, we will be doing different styles of hats, various cut shirts, bags, and all sorts of smaller accessories.

Did you get any hot nurses phone numbers when you were getting checked up?
Unfortunatly no. I was pretty gone on pain killers while i was in there. But, i know I saw some good lookin girls wanderin around in there.

If you could have one thing covered for your whole life and not have to worry about it, what would that thing be and why?
Maybe a gas card so I could travel all of the time. Having rent taken care of would be nice too.

What is the dream car for you?
Im not too into cars really. Probably a truck would be cool. I could throw my bike in the back.

If you could be sponsored by any company at all, bmx related or not, who would you pick and why?
Any Jeans or shoes would be cool. I go throught them super fast.

You have 3 smoking hot girls stop you at the bar, a blonde, brunette, or red head, who do you take home?
All three but the Brunette is first.

What are some things you would like to accomplish in the next few years?
Hopefully cross a few things off that ive wanted to do on the bike. Find a new house. Get over the pond for awhile and just keep traveling with my bike. I really want to film another video part since I got hurt during this one.

Do you work or go to school at all?
I was working at Bent River Brewery here in Moline but since this crash im kind of a chiller for awhile.

What is one food you could live on forever?
Chicken Salad Sandwhiches.

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment in life?
I dont think ive reached that yet. But ive got plenty of time.

Who or what has influenced you the most?
riding bikes it would have to be Brian Kachinsky, Rick Moliterno, Van Homan, and Josh Stricker

What is the first song that comes to mind right now?
Dont stop Believin’- Journey

Seen any good movies lately?
The Dark Knight while I was in Tulsa. That movie is dope.

What is the last thing you bought?
Baker 3 dvd and Props issue 69.

What is your favorite alcoholic beverage?
Fat Tire or any Rum will do.

If you could eat at any restaurant right now, where would you go and what would you get?
Hungry Hobo. Number 11 Hobo Combo Sub

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
Thank you to my MOM first off. Thanks to Rick and Jess at Standard, Ryan Levsen at Goodtimes, Matt Coplon at Profile,Bent River, My room mates Owen and Parky for dealing with me coming and going all the time, Miles, Tony, Russ and Kelly, Kachinsky, Justin Kosman for way too much help and anyone that has let me crash at yer place. Thanks.

Anything else you would like to say?
First try, No warm ups.

Alex Raban Interview

August 9, 2008

I like being able to interview people I have no clue about because then the answers aren’t predictable. Alex has a lot of really cool things in the works and knows that BMX is all about fun. This is what he had to say. Let us know what you think in the comments.

What was it that first got you into BMX?
I believe the first thing that got me into bmx is friends that I met in school. That till this day still friends with them which is awesome.

You are one of the Peg Leg guys, how did you get involved with them and in your eyes what are they all about?
Well a while back i use to post videos online. And Devin hit me up wondering if i would like to contribute footage for the dvd. I was siked on doing something like that cause i never thought something like that would happen.
And to me the pegleg guys are all about being awesome and good friends. Simple as that.

You are in the process of making Roll Wit Us a video that looks like it will be really good. Whose all in it, what can people expect, and when do you expect it to be out?
Thanks alot!, They are about 20 riders in the entire video. From down south to up north, some expectations for the video i would have to say get ready for some unique riding styles with a bit of mayhem. Hopefully by the end of this year. Their will also be another teaser release near the end of editing.

How long have you been filming and editing videos for?
I have been filming and editing for about 6 years or so.

What kind of cameras, editing software, and computers are you working with?
As of now i have a Sony vx 2100, working with final cut pro 5. And just got a new computer,a new 24 inch 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Your a real dialed dude on a bike, what do you think helped you progress to the riding level you are at today?
To tell you the truth, all my friends help my progression till this day. I couldn’t do it without them.

Your crew “Kill Ted” is pretty legit, are those the guys you are uusally riding with?
Man, if i could ride with all these guys everyday that would be awesome! But unfortanatly most of these guys are scattered around california. So i usually meet up to ride with most of them once in while.

Where are some of your all time favorite spots?
It’s going to have to be a parking lot. It’s my favorite spot i grew up riding in that.

If you could ride anywhere in the world with any people, where would you want to ride and why?
If i where to ride anywhere it’s going to have to be eastern europe. Reason being is because i have been there and i just get an awesome vibe being out there on and off my bike.

Who are some pros you have really looked up to with your riding?
I looked up to a lot riders growing up through out the years and all. In videos and what not. But as of now i realize that all my friends are people i look up too.

What is one trick or line you could never get sick of doing?
The “Barspin” over obsessive if you can’t tell already ha!

In Roll Wit Us there is some footage of a pissed off dude. What is your best story involving you and cops/security/homeless people/hookers/ angry pedestrians?
Their are too many to list! I wish i could tell you all of them. But the most recent one was with my friends at a trailer park riding at night. When we were getting chased out by a 80+ year old man on a segway! I never laughed so hard, this guy really thought he was going to catch us. Ha!

How do you feel about contests like X-Games and Dew Tour? I imagine being a bigger street rider you don’t get too excited about contests?
Personally i think contest’s and x-games are great. I like them because it’s almost like a different style of riding then anything else. I entered a few myself, never did any good but hey i had fun so that’s what counts!

How do you feel about bike games to play like foot down and b-i-k-e? Any of your own versions you like to play?
Those games are sweet! A good way to burn some time with friends. The game bike is sweet good way to push your self, but i don’t think i can ever play foot down.

What do you think you would change about BMX if you could?
Really nothing.

Where do you think you would be right now if you never got into BMX?
Being at home on the bed being a fat ass.

Outside of riding what are you up to?
Mostly working and when i have time editing and filming.

You win the lottery, what do you buy first?
A house.

If you could have any camera, editing software, and computer, what would you want and why?
Actually it would probably would not change much.
Reason being is cause i have good equipment for my level of filming and editing.

What is the key to success with the ladies?
Ha! I would love to give you that answer but i have the worst luck with women. Either they are horribly disgusted by me or they are stalker’s.

If you could spend the day with anybody, alive or dead, who would you want to spend it with and why?
If i could i would like to spend it with jesus. Why, it would be very intersting to me to learn about somebody that holds a key to life and death.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully still riding my bike. And living the way i am till this day.

If you could committ any crime and get away with it, what would you do and why?
I have horrible Karma. So their is a no ways chance in hell i can get away with it. Ha!

Do you spend much time on the internet? Any favorite websites?
If i have time or if im working on the computer ill browse. FFFFound is a cool website.

Do you go to school or work at all?
I work full time i my dad’s pizza parlor.

What is the first song that comes to mind?
“Strawberry fields forever” Beatles

See any good movies lately?
I recently just saw the “Dark Knight”. Stunning!

What is your perfect day?
Wake up on a sunday eat a good breakfast. Overcast skies all day at 55 deg. Have a great session with a group of friends. And end the day with a cold brew.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?
if you have paid the cost of success then success is yours

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
I would like to thank all of my friends and family. Big shout outs to pegleg clothing a odi grips for all your help!

Anything else you would like to say?
fo shizzle.

On the Horizon: Tree Bicycles

August 7, 2008

Tree has been a name people recognize in BMX for the last few years. When running a company between two people and that is just about it, it can be a little crazy. I had a chance to get Andy Chapman some questions about the company and this is what he had to say. Somehow I managed to get 20 photos and like 5 videos into this interview also. Let us know what you think in the comments!

Tree bikes have been around for a while now, who are the creators, when did it all get started, and where are you guys located?
Sam Schulte Creator and owner has known he wanted to start a bike company since he was 16. The ideas behind Tree started in high school when Sam wasn’t paying attention in class and was doodling in his notebook. Tree the official company started in 2002. It started with a ½” inch thick sprocket sold out of Sam’s backpack at contests. I think people were into it because they could tell Sam was sensier and put a lot of thought into the design of the products. Tree has continued to grow from there. The tree world headquarters is currently located in Saint Louis, Missouri.

What was the main reason for the company to start, and what is the main goal of Tree as a company?
Get rich and pick up chicks duh. Just kidding. Sam started the company to make all the ideas he had in his head, a reality. The main goal of tree is make the best parts we can come up with and let the parts sell themselves not the advertising.

Is it just you (Andy) and Sam who run the whole show or are there more people involved and who are those people that nobody ever hears about? and is there any plans on hiring more people?
It’s just me and Sam full time but we have friends that help us out a little bit.
Sam’s girlfriend Crystal helps us with graphic design and web work
Jeff Brockmeyer does video and photo stuff.
Right now, we run a pretty tight ship so we don’t need much help right now. In the future it would be nice to have a massage therapist on staff maybe.

With the popularity of Tree growing (no pun intended). Do you guys ever plan on expanding into a bigger location or is the house you guys work out of really all you guys need?
I think its every company’s dream to have there own warehouse with ramps in it but right now the house works fine.

What is the product line looking like these days and what are the plans you guys have for your hard goods? I know you guys have a frame in the works? What can people expect from Tree in the coming years?
Right now we have headsetcap bolts, bar ends, handlebars, pegs, and of course sprockets. Later on this year we should have our new straight pull front hub and frames out. Shortly followed by our straight pull rear hub. After that we have some top secret stuff planed.

How about the other things like shirts, stickers, and small pieces of your guys product line? Do you have any new designs or anything in the works that will be available soon? Any plans you can tell us about?
This last year we decided to let our team design their own shirts. So lately we’ve had some interesting designs like skeletons doing table tops and unicorns battling dragons. We do have a new design we are working on below it’s a ruff sketch but I think its awesome check it out.

Who are the pros, flows, and bros you guys hook up these days? What is the plan with the team such as changes and additions?
Right now our riders are zack warden, eben fischer, cole todoravich, Nathan parker, zak early, ty Stuyvesant, and Thomas stellwag. Along with some new young gun flow riders bobbie altiser, adam “ginch” guilliams, and David gamble. We are always looking for cool new people to hang out with.

How do you guys go about picking new people for the team? What are some of the most important things you guys look at when picking these new guys?
I Think the easiest way to pick a new team rider is to imagine yourself on a roadtrip with that person and see what that person would add to the trip. For example would that person make a 15 hour drive feel like a 4 hour drive or a 20 hour drive. Also when you get were your going and you go do some bike riding how many times that day would that person make your jaw hit the floor.

Is there any plans for road trips, filming for web videos or DVD, or anything else related to the team coming up at some point?
Definitely we try to do at least 1 big trip every year and we try to make it to Woodward sometime during the summer. Other than that we have been concentrating on some web video stuff we just had one from eben and from bobby come out so check those also we should have a little miny roadtrip one coming out soon

When somebody has an issue with there Tree product, who should they contact to possibly get it warranteed? What are the typical procedures for getting a damaged good to you and a new product to the rider?
Sam is the warranty man email him at sam@treebicycleco.com or give us a call at 314-352-1501. Send us a picture over and we will help you at.

How about just getting in contact with you guys or to check out what you guys got going on?
Keep up to date with what we are up to at treebicycleco.com The best way is either emailing us at andy@treebicycleco.com or if you want an instant update give us a call don’t be scared. 314-352-1501 we would love to here from you. Also since I just posted our phone number to the world wide web I’m expecting some awesome prank calls and sweet drunk dials in the middle of the night please leave us a funny message it makes our day much better in the morning when there is a funny message on the machine.

Where can people pick up Tree stuff? And who should a shop or distributor contact to get you guys in their store or warehouse?
People can pick our stuff up at their local bikeshop or mailorder. If your bikeshop doesn’t carry us have them pick our stuff up from blackout distribution. Or seventies in the uk

Oh yeah before I forget, How do you feel about Kyle Carlson?
Its hard to explain in words how much I love kyle so I will just tell you one of our conversations and you will be able to tell from there.
Kyle: if I were a chick would you leave your girlfriend for me?
Andy: mmmmm not sure, but more importantly if I were a chick and you were a chick would we be lesbians?

Mark Potoczny Interview

July 31, 2008

I met Mark once, about two years ago, at a Baco Jam. It was pretty crazy because he is a super friendly guy and really talented on the bike. If your a BMX rider you should be more like Mark. This is his interview, enjoy.

Name:
Mark Potoczny

Location:
Independence PA

Sponsors:
Hoffman Bikes, Square One, Sun Rims, OBMX

Years Riding:
12

What was it that first got you into riding, and did you ever expect it to bring you to where you are today?
Ever since I was a little kid, I always rode my bike on my dad’s motocross track. He took me to race at South Park twice when I was six but I just kept riding around my house the same way. Then I raced motorcross for a few years until I was about 11 and I met a few kids that had jumps near my house. Then I was hooked, I turned my motocross jumps into bmx jumps and started racing on a regular basis.

You have some really good sponsors that you have been riding for, for a while. What kind of news do you have with them? Any big road trips, video parts, signature parts, or fun stuff like that going on?
I just went on a road trip with the whole Hoffman team through Colorado and New Mexico that was filmed for Props 69. Also, right before that I went on the gypsy tour with Sun Rims, and that dvd should be out soon as well.

It is technically “contest season” around BMX these days, do you have any plans of hitting up any contests?
I’m going to the Battle at the Belmare next month; it was really fun last year. If they have another Baco Jam this year I will go for sure, they are always a good time.

You are one of those all around riders, did you grow up racing at all or was it just trails that got you the style and control?
I grew up racing and riding trails, that’s all I did for the first few years of riding. It’s kinda funny, there was nothing to ride in Pittsburgh back then except the track and jumps that you built yourself. I never rode a quarter pipe until I was 15 and now parks are everywhere.

If you could only ride one spot for the rest of your life, where would you ride and why?
My yard or Catty Woods.

What is the last trick you have learned? And how do you feel about the level of progression these days?
Curve wall ride to 180 barspin was the last trick I learned. I did at least 100 wall rides to 180s before I finally caught the bars, and when I finally pulled it my tire went flat. BMX is progressing way faster then when I started riding, can’t believe the stuff that goes on now.

What is a trick that no matter how many times you have kicked your own ass trying you cannot get on lock?
Opposite spins always give me trouble. Sometimes I can do them on boxes and other days it feels so awkward.

Speaking of kicking your own ass, have you had any bad injuries due to BMX?
Three Broken wrists, dislocated my thumb twice, separated shoulder, broken collar bone, cut my ear in half and needed 22 stitches, dislocated big and pinky toes, and multiple concussions.

You have had the chance to travel a fair amount, where are some of your favorite places you have had the chance to ride?
Bethlehem is one of my favorite places to go ride trails. Every winter I go down to Orlando Florida to visit friends and escape the PA winters. I just recently went through Colorado on a Hoffman trip, and I really liked it there too.

If you could go on a road trip with anybody, who would you take, what would you roll in, and where would you go?
That’s really hard to narrow down, so I’m going to say I’d take a school bus with all my friends I have met through the years and drive around the country for a couple months and hit every state.

How do you feel about bike games to play like foot down, b-i-k-e, or anything like that?
Foot down is always fun. Bike is cool too with the right people.

If you could change anything about BMX what would you change and why?
I wish there were more trails to ride.

What do you think you would be up to if you never got into BMX?
I’d probably be done with college right now and looking for a job to pay off massive school loans. My life wouldn’t be half as fun as it is now that’s for sure.

What are some things you are into outside of riding bikes?
Lately we have been hitting up Karaoke frequently; it’s always a good time with your friends. I did a bit of rode biking this summer when my thumb was hurting. Back in June a few friends and I did the MS 150 which is a charity bike ride from Pittsburgh to Lake Erie to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. In the winter, I like to snowboard as much as my budget will let me, and sled riding is fun. I just got a row boat too, I want to take that out more before the summer is over.

Who or what is the most influential thing(s) in your life?
My family and friends.

If you could listen to only one song for a whole day, what song would you have playing?
Right now it would be the The Go Gos – Vacation.

Seen any good movies lately?
I just saw the Doors movie, and it was rad.

What is the craziest thing you have experienced in your life?
When I was 9 years old, I was at soccer practice and witnessed a US Airways 737 crash only a mile away. Needless to say, I was terrified of flying and never flew until I was 17.

How do you feel about the elections coming up? Any plans on voting?
Right now, between the two candidates I’d have to choose Obama. I listened to his book “The Audacity of Hope” on audio book. I like his ideas, but lets wait and see what he does if he has the chance to get in office.

Do you spend much time on the computer? Any favorite websites?
I usually check the weather and my email every morning. Some other good sites are hoffman bikes, here for kicks, pretty shady, Pa woods and axelrad.

If you could be sponsored by any company that is non bmx related, who would you pick and why?
Sheetz, it’s a gas station chain in wester PA that has bad ass food.

What is the key to success with the ladies?
Not trying to hard.

If you could have anything in the world, but had to sacrifice one thing of yours, what would those two things be?
I would trade all my old emo cd’s for Rod Stewart’s greatest hits.

What is the best advice you can give to BMXers out there?
Do things on your bike that make you smile and forget other people’s opinions.

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
Thanks to my friends and family especially my parents, Hoffman Bikes, Sun Rimes, the whole Cottle family over at OBMX, Kurt for doing this interview and Square One.

Anything else you would like to add?
Look out for a trail jam at my house some time in late August. I will have a flyer made soon.

Garrett Reeves Interview

July 29, 2008

So this is the third V-Club interview I have done this month, and to be honest I didn’t plan that. Apparently, all these dudes are super cool and put together good interviews so maybe I will have to get the rest of their crew. This one is with Garrett Reeves who recently had that super good video up on Vital BMX. I caught up with him and asked him some questions and he’s a legit dude who can ride. Enjoy.

Name:
Garrett Reeves

Location:
Baltimore, Md

Sponsors:
V-Club Clothing, Avalon Cycles

Years Riding:
7ish

What was it that originally got you into BMX and what keeps you doing it today?
A couple of my buddy’s in like 8th grade would take their bikes into the woods and build little ghetto dirt jumps, I didn’t have a bike but I would always borrow my friend Cody’s. Eventually I realized I needed my own and the rest is history.

It seems like your just starting to get noticed and you have been killing it for a while now. How do you feel about that or am I just blind?
I don’t know what qualifies as killing it but I,ve definetly been killing my self on my bike for awhile. As far as getting noticed i think getting to ride for V-Club as helped with that a great bit and thats been really cool so far. Anything that gives me the chance to ride my bike more is good.

You recently had that video on Vital BMX of you that was pretty crazy. When can we expect to see some more videos of you?
Well I,m sure ill make another web edit sometime soon. But I’m mainly filming for a new V-Club Video. I should have a full part and I’m really excited for that because i really enjoy filming. I think the video is gonna be really good so i’m pumped to be apart of it.

It seems like your an all around rider, what is your favorite stuff to ride?
Thanks. I’ve always rode just about everything and never limited myself to one type of riding but lately I have really been having the most fun riding street. I love riding street because every spot you go to is different in some way it just keeps things fresh and fun.

What is the scene like where your from?
Its super relaxed and fun. Basically everyone just meets up and rides and has fun its always a good time. I have some pretty amazing riders that i ride with on a daily basis so i never have trouble getting motivated to learn new things.

You are a pretty dialed rider, what are some tricks you could never get sick of?
Thanks Haha maybe on a good day. I love going fast and doing rail hops and wall rides. Finding a unique street spot is the best.

What are some new things you have been working on?
I have a couple things I want to try to film for the new V-Club video but I try not too worry about specific tricks I just go to a spot and figure out what I want to do there and go for it. I hate sitting at a park and just trying to learn one trick I would rather be out exploring trying to to find a good unique street spot.

What is your injury list looking like? Are you pretty lucky when it comes to that stuff?
Well i broke my left leg twice, my right foot once, and my hand. So I don’t think I have been very lucky.

If I remember right you did pretty well at the Metro Jam this year. How do you feel about contests? Do you have any plans to ride anymore anytime soon?
Yea I had a lot of fun at the toronto jam this year. I think they can be a lot of fun but not because of the riding sometimes. Just seeing friends and partying with people you never see is so much fun. I dont have too many plans for contest other then hopefully BACO and maybe toronto again.

Where are some of your favorite places you have had the chance to ride so far?
I would say my top three in no order are Austin, Baltimore street and I don’t know I guess I haven’t been too many places for riding.

Where are some places you would like to go to someday?
Its weird i live so close to New york city but i have never gone there to ride. I would love to ride vancover that place always looks so amazing. But really i’ll ride anything sometimes the best spots are in the weirdest places.

Who is the typical crew you can be seen riding with and what are some usual spots you like to hit up?
I ride with tons of people around me but the most usual are probably Andy Dubicki,Jeremy Hrabal, Alex Topper, Dan foley, Ben Hittle, and Derek Bristow.

Who are some riders you have looked up to over the years?
I always looked up to a wide variety of riders. I get stoked to watch anyone that goes fast like stricker, hamilton, and ruben definitely come to my mind first. Oh and Doyle is a favorite for sure.

What is the craziest or scariest thing you have experienced because of BMX?
Probably my recent trip to Austin. Meeting so many people i have seen in magazines and videos was pretty crazy even if that sounds lame its true. As far as scary goes i dunno i mean watching people try things that they could hurt themselves doing is always scary for me i hate watching people get hurt.

How do you feel about BMX right now, would you change anything if you could?
Bmx is wild these days so many people are so good. I love getting online and being instantly given a update on everything that happened recently in bmx. I wouldn’t change a thing i like bmx for what it is.

If you could go on a road trip with 5 people, who would you bring, where would you go, and why?
I dunno its hard to narrow it down to five people i would just say all my close friends and we would go everywhere and would have unlimited money so we could eat pizza every meal.

If you could relive any day you had on your bike, when would that be and why?
I wish i could ride with all my friends that i learned to ride from that soon quit. It sucks when people you ride with all the time just stop riding.

Where do you think you would be if you never got into BMX?
Honestly I have no clue. I think i would probably be taking school more seriously and my life would be nothing like it is now.

Outside of riding what are you up to?
I go to a community college. I work shitty jobs off and on. I hang out with my girlfriend pretty much everyday. I have been just trying to stay happy.

If I stalked your Myspace right you got a girlfriend, what is the key to success with the ladies?
haha i dunno i got lucky with my girlfriend. I would like to say being a nice guy helps but I’m not really sure if it does.

What kinds of music are you into? Anything you suggest people to check out?
Lately i have been listening to classic rock a lot. Check out the The yard birds and The Kooks are good as well.

Seen any good movies lately?
Wall-E was amazing!

Who or what are some of the biggest influences in your life?
I think my biggest influence in my life is my parents. They have always supported me and it really motivates me to do my best in what i like to do.

If you could commit any crime and get away with it, what would you do and why?
I would rob a bank. It always looked fun in the movies and I’m running a bit low on cash.

If you could be sponsored by any company, BMX or non-BMX related. Who would you pick and why?
Well the first company is a gas company because that shit is expensive. Then probably a shoe company because I wear through shoes once every few weeks.

Do you spend much time on the computer? Any favorite websites?
I spend a lot of time on the computer. I usually check Bmxboard.com, Thecomupbmx.net and Myspace the most though.

If you could have any super power, what would you pick and why?
I dunno maybe x ray vision for obvious reasons.

What are some things you would like to accomplish in the next few years?
I would really like to just keep riding my bike as much as possible. Maybe get some sort of degree. But mainly just ride my bike as much as possible and stay happy.

What is some of the best advice you could give a person?
Just Huck it.

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
Thanks to my parents Jeremy at V-Club, Donald at Avalon bike shop and all my friends.

Anything else you would like to say?
Thanks for the interview Kurt!
