Dusty Hansen Interview

January 27, 2008

This interview is my first contribution to this website. I decided to interview a local from Undercover Skatepark in Wisconsion named Dusty Hansen. I met Dusty on a biking trip a couple years back. I was riding and he just showed up and started shredding it. Dusty is a rider with serious skills, and a great person to chat with. But hey, dont take my word for it. Just check out the interview.

Name
Dusty Allen Hansen

Age
20 Years Young

Location-Currently:
Neenah WI. Seconds From The Original Brian Kachinsky Residence.

Occupation
Pipe Welder

Sponsors
Dead End Army

How long have you been riding for?
Around 6 Years

What first got you into bmx?
I was cruisin’ for the ladies like 8th graders do best and I saw 2 guys filming on a rail that can be found in BACO 9. Turns out as I developed an interest, the two guys turned out to be Dave Freimuth and Tony Mortenson.

Best biking memory?
I have so many awesome memories from riding, but I would say that my best moment would be getting to meet Walter Pieringer and film some clips with him. He’s all around one of the nicest guys that I have ever met.

How often do you ride?
I try to as much as possible, but with the Wisconsin Winter and work right now I’m down to about 2 days out of the week.

Favorite place to ride?
I’m up for riding anything, but if I were to pick a favorite, I would have to say Street in Marshfield, Wisconsin as odd as it may sound, Undercover, and Street In California.

Riding with you at Undercover and watching you compete was really nuts, you seem to have that park dialed.

How often do your ride there?
Well since it’s the Winter from Hell in Wisconsin currently, I ride there whenever I get the chance. I rarely miss a session there weekly.

Watching your videos and your riding in person makes it hard for me to tell whether youre a tech guy or a go big guy. Which are you?!
Both ! It really varies. I like tech riding a lot, and it’s a good test to see if I can do bigger tech stuff.

What tricks do you like to do best?
I dig spinning a lot, Tailwhips, big wallrides, and things in those/in/out of those.< What was the hardest trick for you to learn?
I had the hardest time in the world trying to learn Fakie-Whips. But with the help of PowerThirst I land them EVERY time.

Is there anyone that has a big influence on your riding style?
I like watching Brandon Hoerres get sexual with ramps. I would have to say him hands down.

Who do you look up to for bmx pro’s and why?
I would say Brandon Hoerres, simply because he is extremely modest with his accomplishments. Same goes for Brian Kachinsky.

Are you a throw on the ear phones and ride guy, or just listen to whatevers out there?
Well thanks to some little bastard at Undercover, I am currently without an iPod. So I just listen to whatever is out there.

Whats currently on your mp3 player?
Well if I had one it would be. . . Pantera, Superjoint Ritual, DamagePlan, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Dave Matthews, Municipal Waste, Hammered, and CKY.

Tell me more about Mark Hilson:
HAHA. should I go there? All I have to say is -Middle School- Hole In The Pocket – Hands Full Of Books – Much Needed Eraser In His Pocket – And An Innocent Blind Girl Willing To Do Him A Favor. . . There Is An Endless List. . .

Tyler Trepanier?
The Guy Is Nuts ! Flairs, Spine Whips. . . More Tattoos than necessary = Badass. . . Plain and Simple

Whats your worst riding moment?
Threeing the box at Area 51 Backwards and washing my front wheel out. I didn’t remember my name for 3 days.

Ever broken any bones while riding?
I think I might have. . . But I don’t care for the doctor

Whats your bike setup consist of?
Volume Heaton. Profile Mini Hubs. Fly Cranks. No Brakes. Fit stem+Sprocket. Macneil seat+post. Shadow Bars+Grips. Colony Ends. Demolition Pedals. Shadow Chain. Sunday Fork. Shadow Pegs. And all the Ti Fixin’sMost favorite part? I love Shadow Anything. The 13b’s are the best bars made.

Most favorite bmx company?
Dead End Army ! ! !

Favorite Bmx video?
Chill Bro was excellent. But my all time favorite would have to be Road Fools 2.

Any plans in the future for biking? Any trips, contests, or anything bmx related?
Whatever Comes up Comes up. i’m generally up for anything. Brian Hinckley = Filming Extrordinare, is currently working on the Dead End Army DVD. I’ve been working on my part with him as of lately.

If you cant be found on your bike you can be found…?
Working, Spending Time With My Lovely Lady, Or Upside Down Over a Silver Cylinder Type Contraption At Your Local Booze Party.

Whats your life like outside bmx?
Basically work. I would really like to weld frames/forks/bars for a company one day. Hopefully Brian at Dead End Army and I can eventually get something going as far as that goes.

College?
1 Semester. HaHa. I decided it was too expensive so I went with the apprenticeship.

Any hobbies other than bmx?
I guess you could say welding, working out, boozin’, and Fishing.

Favorite drink?
Coors or Budweiser

Your ruben rides are sick, what made you go to Undercover, look at the wall and say, “Im going to ruben that 16 foot wall”?
I can’t really come up with an answer for this one. HaHa. I learned them on a wedge to wall and I wondered if I could just throw myself off of the quarter next to it and do the same thing.

900’s? yay or nay?
Yay.

Did you ever land it at the Bmx Lover competition?
No I did’nt sadly. Since the day I haven’t either. But thanks for the reminder. I’ll put it on this week’s to-do list.

Mike Jones?
Who?

David Blaine?
Pussy.

Is 2 Girls one Cup currently on your computer history?
Of course.

Any shout outs, or thank you’s youd like to add?
Definately! Brian Hinckley @ Dead End for all the opportunity and support. Mark Hilson for stickin’ with the scene for so long. My Parents for dealing with my shit. Brandon and Brian K. for all the influence. My Wonderful Girlfriend Katie for putting up with my shit as well. Everyone else who I have ever rode with or talked to, you guys all have an impact. Last but not least Alex for this opportunity. Thanks Man.

hope to see more of Dusty in the future

January 22, 2008

When I randomly came accross Dylan’s video on Vital I knew I wanted to know what this kid was all about, So I shot him an interview and here’s what he had to say.

Name:
Dylan Stark

Lake Forest, Cali

How many years have you been riding?
3 ish. I used to race Mountain bikes and somehow ended up riding 20″s

How in the hell do you air so high, especially over that spine?!
Pedal really really fast. Hope I don’t land flat.

Your what, 15-16? So your in school I would imagine, is that a priority or does riding come before school and stuff?
I really don’t like school. I was doing independent studies (home school) for a while but everyone said to at least try school so I did. It’s not fun and I’m failing everything.

Do you drive yet or what’s your main way of getting around to ride and stuff?
I have a VW GTI turbo. But don’t get my licence for a couple more weeks. I usually get rides with friends or pedal places.

What is your favorite trick to do?
The safe ones. Probably moto whips or 360 nose dives

What is your least favorite, or a trick that you cannot do for the life of you?
Barspins. I always jam my fingers.

It would appear you ride brakeless, do you ever get scared going so fast and high?
I actually get more scared with brakes. I tend to do more big tricks that get me hurt. I like going fast and boosting is really fun.

Who are some of the guys you ride with, do you think they influence your riding at all?
I ride with my friends from school or locals from the skatepark. They don’t really push me I just do what is fun and feels good.

Who are some of the pros you look up to?
Morgan Wade, Mike Clark, Jamie Bestwick, Dennis Enarson

Where do you usually ride?
Etnies Skatepark. The most crowded place ever. I don’t really get a chance to ride much other than etnies. I ride about 2 times or 3 times a week.

Do you ride contests? Do you have any plans of entering any for ’08?
I ride contest that are close. It would be nice to travel around.

What are some things you would like to do this year, or in the next few years you haven’t had a chance to do yet?
I want to go to the East coast and ride over there and go up North and ride NW trails.

You had a part in a video, what’s that video all about and isn’t it on vimeo to see?
Its just a bunch of my friends and we made a video. It was going to be a DVD but alot of computer problems later and it ended up on Vimeo.

Outside of riding what kinds of things are you into?
Cars, Snowboarding, Bodyboarding, Just chillin

What kind of music do you listen to?
Mostly Rap and Reggae. I have some other random stuff too.

Favorite movies?
Probably SuperBad. Really funny.

If you won the lottery, (which I think you can’t even legally do) what would you do with the money?
Buy a lot of redbull.

If you could go on a road trip anywhere, where would you go and who would you bring?
I would go to Europe and probably my friends that I hang out with a lot.

What are some companies you really support?
I have alot of oddyssey stuff and Fit. Good parts.

What are some of your favorite websites?
Myspace.com I’m on it way to much

If you could only ride one thing (ramp, street spot, etc.) for a day, what would it be and why?
Trails. I love flowing

How do you feel about all the trends in BMX, do you follow them or do you just do your own thing?
I used to be in that “Light Bike” trend. But I could care less about the trends. I just ride what I got and how I like.

If you were to go pro before you graduated from high school, would you try and finish or would you pull a Harry Main?
Get out of school. Probably home school or something. Haha

If you could spend the day with anybody, alive or dead, who would it be, what would you do, and why?
The owner of Redbull. Try to convince him to give me free Redbulls. That would save me a lot of money.

BMX is…
For Tuff Guys!

Do you think anything should be changed in BMX, if so, what and why?
The Shit talking. Everyone is just trying to have fun.

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
Epic Bmx for always hooking it up. Dillon for always driving me places and taking pictures. Nick for riding with me all the time. Bmxunion.com for doing an interview of me. Thanks

Anything I forgot you would like to add?
I think you got it all.

This is the video that is number 2 on VitalBMX’s most popular videos.. kid rips!

See More BMX Videos at VitalBMX.com

This would be the DVD he has the part in that his friends put together, good riding!
