It’s a new month and Brian Tunney is on it with the monthly recap video from his flatland sessions he got in over the course of February! Brian Tunney – January 2021 Clips
Brian Tunney has been keeping his monthly videos going strong for two years now, and we’re really stoked to see he’s keeping it going! Here’s his latest kicking 2021 off with some laid back flatland riding (while battling the pickle ball people for his spot) and some new music you probably haven’t heard, but will likely be stoked on! Hit play and enjoy!
“Apologies in advance: no scooter tricks. January is customarily, a slow riding month for me because work gets crazy. This year, despite the pandemic and the near collapse of democrazy, I was still really busy with work so this is basically three weekends of riding crammed into one awkward January video.
Anyone remember the band Karate? Neither does iTunes. They were a three-piece slow core band from the Boston area that evolved into a loose jazz outfit over time and released a handful of really influential records through Southern Records, none of which are still in print or available for digital purchase. The song used here is a Karate cover done by New Idea Society. I didn’t ask Mike Law if he was cool with me using it, but I can safely assume that he is.
Buy the tribute album here, it’s really great, and look around on YouTube if you’re curious about the original band. Their albums are all still available for listening here, but it’s just not the same as buying and owning it.
Anyways, buy this music here.” — Brian Tunney
Brian Tunney – December 2020 Clips
When Brian Tunney started his monthly videos in 2019, he planned to do it for a year, but he ended up keeping it going through 2020 and we’re real stoked on that! Hopefully we get another year of these videos since we always look forward to it. Hit play to check out what Brian laid down during his sessions on his bike… and scooter.
“Started out on some good days in early December, but the crushing depression of the holidays won out in the end. Two highlights for me are the double barspin lawnmower to undertaker and the single barspin lawnmower to undertaker to smith. I wish I had more good things to say about riding this month but I am still embattled in a territory war against a pickle ball league at the place where I ride. Onto better things, see ya 2020.” – Brian Tunney
Brian Tunney – November 2020 Clips
Although this year has been terrible, the time does seem to fly by. It’s a new month and that means that it’s time for Brian Tunney to give us a look at what he’s been getting into during his flatland sessions. Here’s what he cooked up over the course of November. Plenty of gems in here and once again picking out music that fits perfect. Take a look!
“The month started out just a little dramatic. There was this thing happening in the U.S. and it kinda drained me of motivation to go out and have fun. A week in, I decided enough was enough and had to force myself to detach from a gripping news cycle and go ride even if my brain was distracted. This is the result of that. Towards the end of the month, I stumbled onto an old how-to in a 1988 issue of Freestyle Spectacular or American Freestyler for a trick called the “Turnpike.” It’s basically a half bar-split decade out of a lawnmower and it baffled me. So I took a few hours one day to learn it but added a half lash and did it off the opposite side. Anything bar-split for me is difficult because I am not a fan of smashing my unmentionables but it seemed to work out okay here.

Brian Tunny – October 2020 Clips
These days it’s not uncommon for things to be pretty unpredictable. Fortunately we can count on Brian Tunney to always deliver a fresh new video from his flatland sessions at the start of the month! Here’s a look at what he’s cooked up once again with real solid flatland riding and proper song selection. Get on that play button and take a look!
“If you’re still riding and progressing each month with how crazy this world has become, you are better than me. This is a loose collection of misfires from October. Some old, some new, some what the hell was I thinking.” – Brian Tunney
Brian Tunney – September 2020 Clips
It’s a new month and that can only mean one thing… Brian Tunney has a new video from the flatland sessions he has been getting in over the course of the past month! (Seriously, this has been going on for almost two years now, and it’s awesome!) Here’s a look at what he got into over the course of September! Always some great riding and proper song selection! Take a look!
“Forewarning: I was almost done with undertakers and then figured out I can go pedal to peg and peg to pedal so I’m seeing this thing through to its natural conclusion. Most of this is new except for one do-over on a better background, and the undertaker kickturn from the start doesn’t look like much, but pivoting and jumping underneath the bike on top of even a mellow bank is harder than I thought it was going to be. I also realize the world is falling apart and that watching old man bmx riding might be a low priority, but it’s my coping mechanism in a crazy world and I hope everyone out there has something similar to help get them through tough days.

Brian Tunney – August 2020 Clips
One thing we’ve been stoked on is that we can always count on Brian Tunney to deliver with a fresh edit at the start of every month. With August being a wrap, we get a look at what Brian laid down during his solo flatland sessions. This month he mixed things up a bit with two different bikes helping to change up the tricks he was doing. As always, the video is well worth a peek. Take a look!
“Switched back to the Heresy for a bit. It forces me to ride differently but as you can see, it’s also forced me into a “just end on backwards hitchhiker” funk. I know, these are ridiculous problems to have in 2020, and I agree so I’ll end it here.” – Brian Tunney
Brian Tunney – July 2020 Clips
It’s a new month and that means that it’s time for Brian Tunney to beat up some tennis players put together some fresh clips from the flatland sessions he got in. As always, Brian delivers with some great riding, and a song selection you probably haven’t heard before. This one also comes with a few words on an unexpected struggle caused by COVID below! Check it out!
“Granted, the world is falling apart more and more each day, but here’s the issue I had in July, which is hardly an issue by any standards: I’ve been riding at this outside court near my house for a while now. The place where I ride has no basketball hoops and is typically used by me, skateboarders or one guy that’s really good at jumping rope. But the local tennis courts are closed, so there’s been an influx of tennis players bringing their own nets into the area to try to play tennis. It’s not my area and they can do what they want in the area, but the problem has arisen when they ask me to to move so that they can play tennis.
For the past 30-something years, I’ve been viciously kicked off tennis courts for riding there, and while I understand the no bikes allowed mindset, I’m also a little bit defensive when tennis players come to the place where I now ride and ask me to leave. So there’s been a few tense moments over the past month, with me saying that I ride here all the time, etc, etc. It’s not made riding more fun in the least. Again, this is a non-issue in the grand scheme of things, but I’m still resentful when people participating in other activities deem my activity lesser than theirs, which seems to happen often with Redondo Beach tennis players.
Having said all that, here’s a minute and a half of riding squeezed in between tense altercations with bitter tennis players not allowed to play tennis on tennis courts. Have a great day.” – Brian Tunney
