Brian Tunney – May 2021 Clips

June 1, 2021

Another month has flown by, and that means that it’s time for Brian Tunney to give us a look at what he got into during his sessions over the course of May! This one is more focused on a few clips versus a mix of a bunch of combos compared to his past videos, but it’s a real solid watch. Take a look!

“This was a ‘clear out the idea book’ month before embarking on a new flatland journey in June. The circular half-hiker to elbow glide to invisible hand routine and all of its variations is endless, but I am getting a little tired of it, so here’s the last of it for a while. The first thing is a half-hiker holding the pedal instead of the seat and on the whiplash part, I gave the crank a back pedal and landed ankledeath. It’s one of the few times I wrote something down and it worked out just like I thought it would in 30 something years of bike riding. The rest is the odd ilk of one-handed switch elbow glides, invisible hands on the frame and hitchhikers.” – Brian Tunney

Federal Bikes – Brian Tunney “Trafaelio” Section (2004)

May 24, 2021

Oh yeah! Here’s a throwback for your viewing pleasure. Brian Tunney uploaded his old section from the Federal Bikes “Trafaelio” video that came out back in 2004! This is a mix of flatland, street and park clips where Brian mixes the styles all together for a bunch of great riding. It’s pretty wild to think this video part is already 17 years old! Take a look, because this is a real good watch!

“In 2004, Federal Bikes released their first full-length video, ‘Trafaelio’ and for some odd reason, I ended up filming a full part for it. The other day, I was rooting around the garage and I stumbled across it and gave it a watch and still like it enough that I digitized it and am releasing it here. Run-on sentence much? Me too. Anyway, it’s a nice trip down memory lane from the before times, when you had to wait weeks or months at a time to see what was happening in BMX around the world. I’m not knocking instant gratification; this is just a hat tip to simpler times. Thanks to everyone at Federal Bikes and Seventies Distribution for making this video happen, and to Ted Leo for the song. And eternal gratitude to Paul Buchanan for getting in the van and driving all over the place with us in Vancouver. Rest in peace.” – Brian Tunney

Brian Tunney – April 2021 Clips

May 1, 2021

Brian Tunney kicking the new month off with a fresh video giving us a look at his sessions he got in over the course of April! As always, Brian delivers with a bunch of solid flatland clips, and he even mixed in a few street clips for good measure (I saw that abubaca and tire grind!) Just like his past monthly edits, this is well worth a look! Get on that play button.

“Started the month on one trusted flatland combination and got like three clips in one day. At first, I thought, okay, I’ve gotta try something different. But then I just let the specific combination happen to its natural conclusion and figured out a bunch of small but different variations to the concept. It might all look the same but there are small differences in each of them. And to add insult to injury, I also squeezed in a bunch of old school-ish kickturns, which are way more fun than I remember. If anyone knows where I can find a fully-built, somewhat trustable coaster brake wheel, I’ll build it up and make an all ’80s kickturn edit….

Buy the last JOAN album here!” – Brian Tunney

Brian Tunney – March 2021 Clips

April 1, 2021

The Spring vibes have been happening more and more, and that’s been awesome. Brian Tunney is kicking off April 1st with a fresh batch of clips he filmed over the course of March! As always, Brian delivers with some great flatland combos, and he even slipped in a few clips from a bank, too!

“So far, my riding this year has been all over the place. February, I experimented with some weird pedal decade stuff, and this past month, I actually escaped the empty basketball court and rode some stuff in my neighborhood. It was fun, it made me think different and it might happen a little bit more now that I realized I can still bunnyhop without losing all muscle function in my back. But this isn’t about old man bunnyhopping. It’s more about not limiting oneself to a type of riding, a type of trick or a type of bike, all of which I categorically fall into from time to time. So here’s your reminder: If you’re bored with your riding, try something new (or old) and break up the routine. After being stuck at home for a year, it’s something we could all use more of. Happy spring…” – Brian Tunney

Brian Tunney – February 2021 Clips

March 1, 2021

It’s a new month and Brian Tunney is on it with the monthly recap video from his flatland sessions he got in over the course of February! Like Brian’s other videos, this one has a chill vibe, but the riding is real solid and the music selection is always something we haven’t heard before. Hit play and enjoy!

Brian Tunney – January 2021 Clips

February 1, 2021

Brian Tunney has been keeping his monthly videos going strong for two years now, and we’re really stoked to see he’s keeping it going! Here’s his latest kicking 2021 off with some laid back flatland riding (while battling the pickle ball people for his spot) and some new music you probably haven’t heard, but will likely be stoked on! Hit play and enjoy!

“Apologies in advance: no scooter tricks. January is customarily, a slow riding month for me because work gets crazy. This year, despite the pandemic and the near collapse of democrazy, I was still really busy with work so this is basically three weekends of riding crammed into one awkward January video.

Anyone remember the band Karate? Neither does iTunes. They were a three-piece slow core band from the Boston area that evolved into a loose jazz outfit over time and released a handful of really influential records through Southern Records, none of which are still in print or available for digital purchase. The song used here is a Karate cover done by New Idea Society. I didn’t ask Mike Law if he was cool with me using it, but I can safely assume that he is.

Buy the tribute album here, it’s really great, and look around on YouTube if you’re curious about the original band. Their albums are all still available for listening here, but it’s just not the same as buying and owning it.

Anyways, buy this music here.” — Brian Tunney

Brian Tunney – December 2020 Clips

January 1, 2021

When Brian Tunney started his monthly videos in 2019, he planned to do it for a year, but he ended up keeping it going through 2020 and we’re real stoked on that! Hopefully we get another year of these videos since we always look forward to it. Hit play to check out what Brian laid down during his sessions on his bike… and scooter.

“Started out on some good days in early December, but the crushing depression of the holidays won out in the end. Two highlights for me are the double barspin lawnmower to undertaker and the single barspin lawnmower to undertaker to smith. I wish I had more good things to say about riding this month but I am still embattled in a territory war against a pickle ball league at the place where I ride. Onto better things, see ya 2020.” – Brian Tunney

Brian Tunney – November 2020 Clips

December 3, 2020

Although this year has been terrible, the time does seem to fly by. It’s a new month and that means that it’s time for Brian Tunney to give us a look at what he’s been getting into during his flatland sessions. Here’s what he cooked up over the course of November. Plenty of gems in here and once again picking out music that fits perfect. Take a look!

“The month started out just a little dramatic. There was this thing happening in the U.S. and it kinda drained me of motivation to go out and have fun. A week in, I decided enough was enough and had to force myself to detach from a gripping news cycle and go ride even if my brain was distracted. This is the result of that. Towards the end of the month, I stumbled onto an old how-to in a 1988 issue of Freestyle Spectacular or American Freestyler for a trick called the “Turnpike.” It’s basically a half bar-split decade out of a lawnmower and it baffled me. So I took a few hours one day to learn it but added a half lash and did it off the opposite side. Anything bar-split for me is difficult because I am not a fan of smashing my unmentionables but it seemed to work out okay here.

Song is from old friends Joan of Arc, buy the record here” – Brian Tunney
