Insight: Fit – 24mm Indent Cranks

August 22, 2013

BMX cranks

BMX cranks are one of the most important parts on your bike. Not only because they allow you to pedal, which is key, but they are where a lot of the force from impacts end up when you land. Cranks have gone from one-piece designs that you could bend by just starring at them to traditional 3-piece style we see today. You can’t forget the 2-piece and 2.5-piece versions that have surfaced over the years as well. Either way, there are a lot of things that have been done to improve the quality of cranks to hold up the the level or riding that goes on these days from dropping off roofs, sending it over 30 foot doubles to blasting a box jump or grinding down a rail.
About two years ago, Fit Bike Co. introduced their 19mm Indent cranks which utilized the 3-piece design with a 19mm, 48-spline spindle and indents on the arms to improve strength. The cranks are clean and built to stand up to some heavy riding… Except they there were ways to get an even stronger design. Recently, Fit released another version of the cranks that feature a larger 24mm spindle that ultimately makes for a stronger design without excessive weight additions to your bike.
I was pretty curious what lead them to stepping outside the box so to speak from the traditional 19mm and 22mm spindle designs, so I got ahold of Chris Moeller to talk a little bit about what lead to the design. Let’s take a closer look!

Fit – Las Vegas Shop Stop

April 16, 2013

The other weekend, some of the Fit Bike Co. guys made a trip out to Las Vegas for a shop stop. Take a look at the riding and good times that went down! This is rad.

“Ben Lewis and Shawn McIntosh jumped in the F-IT350 with Moeller, McKinney, Stew and Julio and headed to Vegas for a Bike Shop Shop Stop a couple weeks ago. They met Troy Blair, Travis Cordova and a bunch of locals there and shredding (and heckling and rapping) ensued. ”

Common Crew – Revolt Jam Edit

March 19, 2013

Over the weekend, the Revolt Jam went down in one of the ditches out in California. They had a MASSIVE turn out and it looks like there was nothing but good times going on there. Check out a bunch of the riding that went down, how gnarly the long jump got and who won highest bunny hop in this video that the guys from Common Crew pumped out. This is what BMX is all about right here. Stoked on this.

Also, stoked to see Chris Moeller showing the kids how to get the long jump party started.

Through The Lens: The Process – Writing a Magazine Article

November 7, 2012

Photography is something that I have loved for almost as long as I can remember. It’s one of those things that just makes sense to me. To be able to capture single moments in time and have them to look back on forever is an incredible thing. Photography is not only what I live for but it’s almost somewhat of an obsession. Now, even though the saying is “a picture is worth a thousand words” no one wants to see a magazine without a little something to read. Writing magazine articles is a huge privilege and an opportunity that I never take for granted. Having your own photos in print is one thing but having an article with your photos as well as your words is a pretty amazing feeling. Most people might wonder how articles come about, how magazines decide on which ones to run, who writes them, and who comes up with the ideas. Well, if you happen to be one of those people then you are in luck because that’s what this week’s column is all about; creating an article from a concept to a finished product.

Insight: S&M 22″ Bikes

March 6, 2012

S&M Bikes
“Dan Closser’s custom S&M trail machine next to the 22” proto type.”

Over the last few years, there’s been a lot of talk about 24″ and 22″ BMX bikes. The bikes are aimed more towards some of the older guys in the crowd or just somebody looking for something a little bigger with more stability. If you are a member on Bikeguide, you may have seen this thread that has been on going for a few years now about 22″ bikes and if they are even possible.
A few weeks back, I had emailed Chris Moeller about some stuff and he breifly mentioned that I should look into the 22″ bikes. I never really thought anything of it beside that he must have been cruising around on one. It didn’t click to me that S&M and Revenge had been working on doing a whole setup from the frame, forks rims, spokes and tires for a complete 22″ setup until a few spy photos surfaced a week or two back.
So I figured I better get ahold of Chris and find out what exactly they have in the works. Check out what he had to say!
