Cult – Dakota Roche “To Be Continued”

April 22, 2024

Dakota Roche tells the story of his crash that left him temporarily paralyzed.

Whenever Dakota Roche films for a video part, he goes all in. As some of you might have noticed, Dak has been battling injuries, and he has been off his bike for a while. Well, it turns out that he had a crazy accident that required emergency surgery and put him on a long road to recovery. Here’s a look at the riding he filmed before the crash, along with a documentary where Dakota tells the story of what happened, along with a look at his recovery so far. Fortunately, his recovery has been going really well and he’s close to getting back to riding. Check this out!

“This is a difficult video to write about and the first time I’m speaking publicly about it, but here it goes- I spent most of 2023 on the injured list, but was working on a Cult part with Grant C between injuries. Finally getting to a somewhat healthy place in November, I started really shifting gears with filming and gettin some tricks I was psyched on… unfortunately that all ended in a horrific slam on November 25th where I sustained a burst fracture in my spine causing temporary paralysis and the need for emergency surgery.

Some VERY dark times followed between a multiple night stay in the ICU and having to navigate home life with a walker, catheter, excruciating pain and a newborn baby. So many people deserve praise for their help during this time, but there’s no way I could’ve gotten through this without my wife. She became a 24/7 caretaker for our infant daughter and myself… how much she stepped up during this time cannot be overstated.

This project is a combination of a video part filmed prior to the crash, and a short documentary on my injury and life for the 4 months following. On a much more positive note, I’m 5 months post injury and have made a pretty miraculous recovery thus far. I’m blessed to say getting back to riding isn’t too far off in the future and I’m working hard every single day to make it happen. Thanks to all who support me and like what I do, it means SO much. Wallrides soon ” 🖤 – Dakota Roche

Thank you @cultcrew, @veeshermang (editing and documentary), @grantcbmx (riding footage) and @calvinkosovich (additional filming) for making this project possible.

Best of X Games “Real BMX” (2016-2021)

June 20, 2023

A look back at the best of X Games Real BMX.

It has been a few years since the X Games held a new “Real BMX” contest, thanks to Covid, but they just released this new show looking back at all the best riding that went down over the years with Mike Escamilla, Dakota Roche and Calvin Kosovich. This is a super good watch because it’s easy to forget just how crazy these videos were. Take a look!

“Since 2016, the X Games Real BMX series has showcased the most innovative BMX street riding outside of the X Games competition venue, in a video competition that pits rider and filmer against the real-life elements of urban BMX street riding.

Each year, a hand-picked selection of the sport’s top BMX street riders submitted 90-second video parts, to be judged upon by their peers, in hope of taking home X Games gold. And in the process, the unpredictable and wildly progressive world of BMX street riding was given a platform for the world to witness. From technical handrail combinations to high speed roof drops, the riders of Real BMX demonstrated the many creative avenues taken within BMX street riding.

Now, with five years of successful competition and more than a few never-been-done moves to claim, X Games presents The Best of Real BMX: 2016-2021.

Hosted by Mike “Rooftop” Escamilla, featuring former Real BMX host, judge and competitor Dakota Roche, and internationally renowned BMX videographer Calvin Kosovich.

Featuring: Courage Adams, Alex Donnachie, Colin Varanyak, Kevin Peraza, Garrett Reynolds, Simone Barraco, Corey Martinez, Nathan Williams, Erik Elstran, Felix Prangenberg, Brad Simms, Jordan Hango, Colt Fake, Chad Kerley, Julian Molina, Lewis Mills, Van Homan, Dave Krone, Dan Coller, Greg Illingworth, Jake Seeley, Demarcus Paul, Sean Ricany, Dennis Enarson, Broc Raiford, Tom Dugan.” – X Games
