In the Cut – Chocolate Truck Philly BMX Jam 2016

July 5, 2016

You know you’re in for a good time when the Chocolate Truck crew throw a jam. Here’s a look at what went down during a full day of riding, giveaways and good times around Philadelphia!

“We followed the The Chocolate Truck crew around during their first official street jam last weekend in Philadelphia. Instead of the typical Center City jaunt, everyone met up at the infamous 9th and Poplar DIY spot, and then followed the El tracks up to spots throughout the rough-around-the-edges North Philly, and even got a cake to celebrate the birthdays of Capone, Steve Tassone and Ryan Niranonta. Sit back and enjoy a glimpse into all the wildness that went down.” – DIG

Ruben Alcantara’s Etnies “Forward” & “Grounded” Sections Remastered

June 28, 2016

Ruben Alcantara – Etnies “Grounded”

Ruben Alcantara has been my favorite rider since I first got into BMX some 17ish years ago. The first time I met him, I was the mega fan with his signature Ruben frame from Macneil and his signature Ruben shoes from Etnies. Today, DIG re-released Ruben’s sections from Etnies “Grounded” that came out in 2008, and “Forward” that came out in 2002 for your viewing pleasure in a re-mastered, higher quality than what’s bene floating online for years. This is a reminder as to why he’s a personal favorite of mine and so many around the world. Hit play on both sections and enjoy the gold!

“Grounded was released in 2008 to much anticipation after Etnies previously praised video. After years of filming, the video was delivered to audiences with Ruben being granted the last section again. In six years Ruben’s riding had progressed in a way that seemed unattainable at first but looking at his past only seemed natural. His pursuit of street transitions and banks continuing in full force gave a new meaning to “gap to wallride” throughout his part. Through Ruben’s riding he brought his question of “You’ll never know” until you try to the table with setups and tricks and few if any would think possible.”

Ruben Alcantara – Etnies “Forward”

“Forward was released in 2002 on VHS and DVD with Ruben closing out the video with the final section. A mix of skatepark and street footage, Ruben always managed to find something to blast or get technical on. From massive ditch quarter pipe hips, to wallrides, to fakie smith half-cab tabletops, he was innovating and progressing BMX with each session. His video part gave BMX the beginning taste of where his riding style was going and his conscious effort that less is more.”

Dave Voelker Podcast

June 26, 2016

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/270001622″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”600″ iframe=”true” /]

The latest Snakebite X DIG podcast features the one and only Dave Voelker! This starts out with a little story on his blown out knee to a lot of history and more. If you have an hour and a half to spare, this is definitely one to listen in on!

“One day late in 2015, and after BBQing and riding the legendary Dave Volekers’ backyard ramp in his hometown of San Diego for about an hour, I sat down with him and pressed record for this latest DIG X Snakebite podcast. We discussed the worlds first ever street contest, his Dyno days, coming out of retirement to ride in the X Games, caring more about true soul riding more than competing, and so much more. Dave’s true passion for riding has always seemed shine through since his first legendary video and magazine appearances in the eighties right through to today, and I felt so privileged to share the stories some of those experiences first-hand with Lord Voelker himself!” – Shad Johnson

Mutiny Bikes – Maxime Bonfil: Control

June 24, 2016

Every time we see a video from Mutiny Bikes‘ French connect, Maxime Bonfil, we’re reminded that there is never enough footage of Maxime popping up online! This one is a double whammy for people we wish we saw more BMX videos from because Joe Simon was the man behind the filming and editing. Hit play to take in a bunch of footage these two collected during Maxime’s stay in Austin, Texas! Excellent riding and some dialed film work. You won’t be disappointed with this one!

“Hailing from the South of France, Mutiny’s Maxime Bonfil recently spent some time in Austin, Texas, and camera wizard Joe Simon documented Maxime’s silky smooth style on the concrete terrain that he enjoys so much.” – DIG BMX

DIG BMX “Locals” – Jonny Devine

June 22, 2016

Although Jonny Devine might not be one of the “household names” in BMX, he’s definitely been on our radar for quite some time and we’ve been a big fans of his riding. Here’s a fresh new one DIG dropped from some time Jonny spent cruising a few parks with filmer Ryan Hallett where both of their styles went together to make one damn good BMX video. This has amazing riding and some real good film work. This one is a great watch from start to finish! Enjoy!

“You’ve seen them before – the local you’ve not heard of that out of nowhere destroys the park you just visited. The first in a new series called ‘Locals’ featuring some of the lesser know riders out there begins with Jonny Devine at a few parks in Devon, UK called Chudleigh and Tiverton while visiting filmer Ryan Hallett last summer. The rest of the edit was then shot up around Preston where Jonny lives, at Preston park, Huyton and Manchester. Style appreciators take note!

Lost In The Ozone – A Remembrance Of Brian Histand

June 21, 2016

It was announced back in January that Brian Histand’s body was found after a nearly 3 year search from when he mysteriously went missing and nobody knew exactly where he was or what was going on. It’s still hard to believe BMX lost Brian. He was definitely one of a kind and nothing short of amazing, just ask anyone that knew him. The crew over at DIG just released this video that Sean Burns compiled from photos and some of his riding footage from over the years for you to enjoy and remember Brian with. There’s also a bigger piece on the DIG website where Sean, Dave Krone, Tim Coyne and Mike Purcey all chime in on Brian and just who he was and how he impacted and influenced their lives. You can, and should, check it out here — Lost In The Ozone – A Remembrance of Brian Histand.

Rest in Peace, Brian. You will never be forgotten.

“When elders speak of young deaths as a shame, I find it contradicting when it comes from someone who has barely left the state they were born in. Brian Histand died young. Yet Brian lived a life more exciting than millions who have lived over seventy five. The details of Brian’s missing time period and death I will leave out of detail. Brian is gone now and the focus is on the things that he did positive when he lived. Which was nearly everything that he did. It is rare that I meet a human who is constantly so optimistic that in any situation or circumstance.. they are laughing through all of it. Even during times of pain and misfortune, Brian was laughing. There were times that I feared for Brian’s life in which quickly turned into him making a joke about how much he must have just looked like claymation whilst crashing. I traveled with Brian off and on for four to five years. Never once did I see him take a negative route for any situation. Not to mention he was a constant comedian. No matter the time or place, Brian always had room to goof off. That is an attribute I can admire. He didn’t waste time over reacting or turning situations negative.

We were confronted by an angry pedestrian with threats of a swinging sledge hammer and he bursted into tears laughing at the guy. Normally I would have imagined it would increase the dangers of the situation but in this case it led to the sledge hammer freak to chill out and laugh about it too. Perhaps there was an extended energy with Brian that induced people to chill out. I can’t say I ever met anyone that was mad at Brian. Truly or even remotely upset with him. The energy he splattered into the BMX world was the same style. I never met anyone that hated on his riding. He was super talented and could do any trick really that he wanted to learn yet he wanted to do what rocked his socks off… Jump big shit! He was such a fan of fast, loose, and exhilarating riding. He wanted to find the next big set up. The next big bongo launcher that he could sail off of. If you take into account some of the things he’s done and saw the run ups in person you would totally understand that he is one of the craziest BMXers to have existed thus far. That could be my personal opinion but if you have seen a handful of the spots he has accomplished and attempted in person.. you’d know there are not many that would pursue the same.

The video I put together of Brian is a combination of footage from Bone Deth road trips. From Surfin’ for the Ugly Broads DVD, to the rotten video, gypsy tour, and many more. Mostly shot by myself, Dean Dickinson, Ryan Navazio, and Dave Krone. There is a ton more footage of Brian out there. From his Tempered edits, to the Yo guy DVD and more. But this footage consists of the time that I traveled with Brian.

I will never forget the day I rode face first into a steel telephone pole nearly knocking myself out because I had just watched Brian do a 360 bunny hop table so flat that i lost concentration and magnetized to the nearest pole with my face. Still to this day I have never seen anyone bunny hop table 360 straight off the ground so good. That Histand hop will be ringing in my brain forever. The pain included I do not even regret. I hope this video gives a slight glimpse into Brian’s madness and positivity. A truly great rider and great friend.… a deadman before death.. and now forever. RIP BRIAN HISTAND.” – Sean Burns

Nathan Williams and Corey Martinez – Viva United

June 20, 2016

It’s always a good day when a new BMX video pops up featuring United‘s Nathan Williams and Corey Martinez. Hit play to get some insight into the trip the crew took from Austin, Texas to Monterrey, Mexico to spend some time cruising around the city, along with a jam with the Prisen BMX Shop locals. Amazing spots, excellent riding, dialed film work. Enjoy!

Bonus points for some clips from Tony Cardona and the legend Ian Morris.

“Viva Mexico, Viva United! During Cinco De Mayo weekend Corey Martinez, Nathan Williams, boss-man Ian Morris and ‘Still United’ lensman, Peter Adam headed south of the border from Austin to Prisen BMX Shop in Monterrey, Mexico for their anniversary jam and some fun along the way. Look out for a special appearance from Tony Cardona at 5-hip ditch in Austin and a whole lot of crazy clips from the United dudes while on the road. Those guys are unreal.

On The Spot with the Odyssey Team

June 17, 2016

During the Odyssey VS Miami trip, DIG sat the Odyssey‘s young gun squad down to ask them a bunch of questions. Other than the uhms, ahs and frequent “what’s that mean?”, this is a pretty good watch with a bunch of laughs.

“In between dealing with really angry Floridians while we were on the recent Odyssey Miami trip, we sat down for a while with Odyssey’s young guns to ask them some tricky questions about each other, BMX and much more. Featuring Travis Hughes, Matt Nordstrom, Justin Spriet, Brandon Webster, and even Broc Raiford post-beach. This is pretty funny…”
