Flybikes – Devon Smillie Signature Fuego Tire

The Devon Smillie signature Fuego Tire from Flybikes is hitting BMX shops and mail-orders around the world. Today, Flybikes gave us the full details on this tire and it looks like a good amount of technology went into this one. The tire features a similar tread pattern as the classic Ruben tire, but more geared toward street riding with a smoother center tread. Inside you can find a “HPPR” layer, which is a High Pressure & Puncture Resistant layer, below that is a High Pressure casing and then there is a pinch resistant layer at the bottom. The tire also has a harder rubber on the sidewall to help resist grab while grinding. Here’s some words from Flybikes about the tire…

“The main goal for the “Fuego” tire was to create the most durable tire possible while still keeping the weight to a minimum, we searched the latest technologies to help achieve these three key features.

1. Although chances are slim that the “Fuego” tire will ever see 120 PSI in its lifetime, by using a new unique technology the tire can accept extremely high pressures, but also, due to its heavy-duty construction remain extremely stiff at the lower pressures that Devon runs.

2. Another feature that’s often overlooked is the addition of reinforcement at the tires bead contact surface area to help avoid pinch-flats. Devon’s “Fuego” tire has this.

3. And finally, the surface on a street tire that gets the most abuse, “the sidewall”. First up, we used a significantly harder compound rubber that has the perfect combination of properties for superior strength, unmatched durability, while still remaining flexible and lite. Last but not least, we brought back our original “protection line”, featured on Rubens first signature tire, which helps protect the tires sidewall during grinds and other street abuse.” – Flybikes

Sneak Peek: Flybikes – 2017 Montaña Frame

The crew over at Flybikes have released another sneak preview of their 2017 products. This time around we get a look at Stefan Lantschner‘s signature Montaña frame in this new Gloss Metallic Orange color. Beyond the new paint, it looks like they kept the same geometry and features, plus added an external down tube gusset for some additional strength.

The 2017 Montana frame is made from full 4130 chromoly tubing with a 75-degree head tube angle, 69-degree seat tube angle, 9″ stand over height, 11.75″ bottom bracket height and a 13.5″ chainstay length. You can find an offset thickness Integrated head tube, internal top and down tube gussets, an external down tube gusset, multi-butted and tapered top and down tube, multi-butted down tube, Mid bottom bracket, Investment Cast seat post clamp, tapered seat and chain stays, removable brake mounts and Investment Cast dropouts with a removable chain tensioner.

The 2017 version comes with a 20.8″ and 21″ top tube lengths and will be available starting this month. The Montaña frame will come in this Gloss Metallic Orange color and one other color yet to be announced.

Offset thickness Integrated head tube with internal top and down tube gussets and a new external gusset on the downtube for additional strength.

Removable Dylan style brake mounts for a clean look if you ride brakeless.

The dialed complete bikes from Flybikes continues! This time around we’ll take a closer look at the 2017 Omega complete. This bike is their top of the line bike for 2017 and it’s decked out from top to bottom in Flybikes aftermarket parts like Devon Smillie’s signature grips, Tripod seat and his new Fuego tires, the Roey stem, Ruben Pedals and Tractor sprocket. You can also find a few of the new Trebol Brand parts like the plastic pegs and hub guards that come stock.

In The Cut – Devon Smillie & Larry Edgar in the UK

A few weeks back, DIG dropped a new video from the Flybikes trip Devon Smillie and Larry Edgar took over to the UK for some shop stops. Hit play to get a little behind the scenes look with some B-Roll riding footage and random antics they got into off their bikes. “A few weeks back we premiered the excellent ‘Destination London’ video from Fly Bikes’ UK trip featuring Devon Smillie and Larry Edgar. The beginning of the trip didn’t go quite to plan with our guy Fred Murray having to take a flight back home soon as he landed, only to return back to the trip a few days later, but while he was there he managed to snag a bunch of behind-the-scenes footage for this In The Cut video. Devon and Larry couldn’t really ride any differently but this was a breath of fresh air and the whole thing turned out to be super fun. Sneak Peek: Flybikes – 2017 Sion Complete

Flybikes keeping the sneak previews of their 2017 products coming. Here’s a look at the raw version of their new Sion complete. Full specs and details haven’t been released, but it sounds like it features a full 4130 chromoly frame, fork and bars and is decked out with Flybikes and Trebol parts. Based off the photos we see the Devon Smillie signature Fuego tire, Devon grips and Tripod seat and Roey stem. It also looks like they have some new Trebol nylon plastic pegs and hub guards that come stock on the bike. We’ll get full details as soon as they are available, but it will be available in raw with dark blue and matte black with dark gold parts!

Trebol plastic pegs and hub guards come stock on this bike. Pretty rad to see those two items becoming a standard thing for some complete bikes. You can also find integrated chain tensioners, which is really nice to have.

Here is a look at the Sion in matte black. This bike comes with Dark Gold parts and right side drive. The raw version above comes in left side drive.

The other day we took a look at Devon Smillie‘s new signature 2017 Fuego frame in the matte semi-translucent dark blue color, now we get a look at the Fuego bars, his signature Devon grips and his new signature Fuego tire in matching colors! The grips are made from a translucent dark blue rubber to make the color on the frame and bars, too. We’re really digging that color, what about you?

Flybikes – “Destination London” featuring Devon Smillie and Larry Edgar

A little while back, Flybikes‘ Devon Smillie and Larry Edgar spent some time over in the U.K bouncing around to shops. While they were there they spent a bunch of time exploring spots! As you can imagine, these two had no problem stacking some amazing clips! Check out what went down!

“We had the pleasure of joining Fly Bikes’ Devon Smillie and Larry Edgar a few months back on a week long trip through the UK, hitting up some shops along the way. In between those stops we got some time to ride in the Big Smoke as well as a day in Bristol and those two unleashed their full arsenal. As you’d expect with Devon he did some crazy shit and put his spot usage bar to full while we got to see Larry show us he ain’t just a transition god. Don’t worry though, we took him to Dean Lane park for a NASA launch. Supreme camera work from Tonash and Spooky Black handles the noises. If you’re anything like us you’ll be watching this over and over. Look out for an episode of ‘In The Cut’ next week to find out what’s it’s like to be around the caffeine fuelled mind of Larry Edgar for a week!” – DIG

Filmed in multiple cities, it was the final “Destination London”, England’s spot-gem capital that captured the guy’s imagination and was always the final goal.
