GT Bicycles hit us with some news this morning that Jeff Z. has been named the new Team Manager for the GT BMX Freestyle program! As many of you probably noticed over the past few years that Jeff has been very involved with the brand tagging along on trips and shooting photos for the team, product and brand as a whole, so this was a natural progression that makes a ton of sense. Ben Ward has been juggling the team, along with the whole BMX product line and more, so we can only imagine how good things will be with Jeff and Ben working together to keep growing the GT BMX program. Below is the official press release to bring the news!
BMX Legend Dave Voelker is Back with GT
As many of you may have heard or seen on Instagram by now, GT and Dave Voelker have teamed up to do a special edition 29″ Dayglo Orange ’87 Dyno Pro Compe cruiser complete that you can most definitely take out and actually ride. Above is a little promo video featuring Dave putting the bike to work. Below you can find full details on the bike, along with a few photos of the bike and Dave riding! This bike looks like a ton of fun to ride!
“After a 17-year hiatus, BMX Hall of Famer, Dave Voelker is back with the team! To Celebrate, we’ve released a special edition 29″ Dayglo Orange ’87 Dyno Pro Compe inspired by the year Voelker turned pro for GT/Dyno. ” – GT
“GT Bicycles today announced a new collaboration. After a 17-year hiatus, BMX Hall of Famer Dave Voelker has teamed up with GT Bicycles once again. To celebrate the reunion, GT is releasing a special edition Dayglo Orange ’87 Dyno Pro Compe, inspired by the year Voelker turned pro for GT/Dyno.
The new Dyno Pro Compe has been beefed up from the original with a 100% chromoly frame and fork, and the wheels have been super-sized to 29” with GT’s all-new Smoothie tires in a stout 29 x 2.5.
“No more ‘butter forks’,” says Dave. “That’s what I used to call them. They were like butter; they’d flex all over the place, and we would have to straighten them out. When it came to the wheels, it was important to add bigger tires because it’s like adding suspension. And, as you get older, you want to have a little bit of cush as you’re landing.”
The new ’87 Dyno Pro Compe also comes equipped with an updated version of the iconic ‘Pretzel’ Bar. The new Pretzel Bar is 100% chromoly and wider than the original giving the bike incredible control while maintaining the head-turning aesthetic the original is famous for.
Dave Voelker knows a thing or two about BMX. He made his debut on the scene in the early 1980s as part of Brian Scura’s BMX Air Show. His fast and loose style along with massive airs quickly caught the attention of the entire BMX world. From 1987 to 2009, Dave Voelker was the leader of the GT/Dyno family. He toured the world with the GT Team, performing for thousands of fans and wowing crowds with tricks like his signature “Voelker Flyout,” shooting straight up the quarter pipe and flailing around like was going to crash, only to land safely on his feet on top of the deck. He continued to lead through the end of his career placing within the top five at several X-Games events.
Dave has inspired an entire generation of riders with his adrenaline-charged style, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on a BMX bike. Without him, BMX wouldn’t be as progressive as it is today. GT Bikes is stoked to welcome Lord Voelker back and ready to keep the good times rolling with the all new ’87 Dyno Pro Compe.
The special edition ’87 Dyno Pro Compe will retail for $725 and be available at your local bike shop. For more information on the ’87 Dyno Pro Compe, visit www.gtbicycles.com.”

GT In Arizona
GT coming through with some fresh gold featuring Albert Mercado and Jeff Purdy going to work on spots galore down in Arizona! Both of these guys bring a good mix of tricks and creativity to the spots making for a super good watch from start to finish. Not only that, but Ryan Chadwick did a damn good job with the film work. Hit play and enjoy! You won’t be disappointed!
“When Ben from GT presented the idea of doing a short trip with Albert Mercado and Jeff Purdy to my hometown of Arizona, I knew immediately that I had to say yes. Albert has been a good friend of mine long before I was ever considered a professional videographer and his approach to riding and filming has always been one of my favorites. His unique ability to look at a spot and figure out that truly special move is incredible. Jeff, on the other hand, was rather new to me. After a bit of research and watching his INSANE Daily Grind section, I was more than excited to get started. Five days later and a bunch of classic AZ spots conquered, these two absolutely blew me away with their unmatched skill and the determination to get as many moves logged despite our short time together. I hope you enjoy what we’ve put together and I look forward to the next opportunity to film with these badasses again.” – Ryan Chadwick, Filmer.

GT At Swampfest 2019
Just when you thought you have seen every video with every possible angle from GT Bicycles coming through with a video from their team trip into the Swamp. This one is different than the other videos we’ve seen with more focus just on what the team got into while cruising the ramps and trails. There’s definitely a bunch of footage we didn’t see in the other videos in this one, making for a real good watch. Hit play and check out plenty of bangers.
“It’s the one BMX event of the year that cannot be missed. The world’s longest hand built rail…over a swamp, a ridiculous double loop of death, the finest handcrafted plywood features and ramps plus maximum bonfire carnage can only mean it’s Florideah Swamp Fest.
GT BMX Freestyle team riders Albert Mercado, Brian Kachinsky, Dan Conway, Leandro Moriera, and Team Manager Ben Ward made their way down to Florida to pit themselves against the crazy. We tossed in Tristen Cooper and Mad Mike Guth for their first official team trip and sprinkled on our newest recruit, 16-year-old Brazilian phenom Gustavo Balaloka. Jeff Purdy and Jeff with Glasses even wandered in from the swamp to lend a hand to the chaos.
Did they survive? Let’s put it this way, they will never be the same…

GT Bicycles – Brian Kachinsky & Sullyvan Guaincetre
Brian Kachinsky and Sullyvan Guaincetre team up for this new GT Bicycles video!
The Globetrotter himself, Brian Kachinsky, made his way to Lyon, France to spend some time riding with his GT Bicycles teammate, Sullyvan Guaincetre, to cruise the spots and stack clips. Both of these guys put their pegs to heavy use, and it looks like Brian had a crazy scare that almost destroyed his leg! This is a real good watch, so get on that play button!
“Brian Kachinsky meet up with his new French GT teammate Sullyvan Guaincêtre for a four day street mission in the city of Lyon. The spots looked amazing and Brian came through with his burly go for it style and he had some wild looking crashes—but thankfully he escaped any major injuries—and Sullyvan delivered with his super smooth tech style. Seeing their contrasting styles in the same video is pretty sick.” – Ride BMX
“When I was a child I can remember my mom often saying, “A lot can change in a few days”. This was usually when something would go wrong or if I was feeling ill or upset. Fast forward to adulthood, life has taught me that this phrase is still very applicable. I feel like in “just a few days” a trip to Lyon, France with Sully and the Frenchy’s crew turned from a fun idea to a reality. In the blink of an eye, I was headed to Lyon to hang out with one of my newest GT teammates. In “just a few days” I got introduced to Sully’s intelligence, laid back attitude, and his extremely smooth riding style. We shared a ton of laughs and passion for street exploration. I’m really excited to have Sully as a part of the GT crew and look forward to future adventures with him. In “just a few days” we experienced a lot—good and bad—but with that comes character and bonding experiences. I’m happy to say that in “just a few days” Sully grew from an acquaintance to a friend. This is yet another reason why BMX is the best. Merci beaucoup to GT, Sully, Johan, Alban and the entire Frenchy’s Distribution crew. J’ai de la chance de t’avoir comme ami.” — Brian Kachinsky
“It’s always a great pleasure to travel with new guys, especially when it is with the legendary BK & the good Sullyvan. As in every trip, there was many adventures—crashes, a broken fish-eye lens, and plenty of rain—but the good memories are the only ones that remain. Thanks to both BK and Sullyvan for giving their best and to Frenchys and GT to develop BMX the right way. Here is the story of our four days around Lyon & Saint-Etienne.” — Romaine Fel
