Through The Lens: Shop Check – The Wood Shop

September 26, 2012

Having a BMX specific shop in any city can do wonders for a local BMX scene. Cameron Wood knows this all too well and set out to make it happen for Salt Lake City, Utah. He had a vision and goal and set out to achieve it. With hard work, dedication and some help from friends and family he got the shop up and running and since day one it has been playing a vital role in helping to build the SLC scene. It also has been providing a place for the local kids to come hang out, get to know each other, keep up on what’s new and just experience BMX which in turn helps the scene grow. Cam isn’t trying to make a ton of money or have a shop just to have it. He really truly believes in BMX and believes in supporting his scene and giving back as much as he can and anyone can appreciate that. I am on a trip out in Salt Lake City at the moment and sat down with Cam, cracked a few beers and fired off some questions for him. Take a minute to get to know a little bit about The Wood Shop and enjoy.

After you check out the interview, make sure you check out more photos of the shop in this PHOTOGALLERY.

Through The Lens – Spot Check: Endwell Trails

September 19, 2012

THIS POST IS STICKIED UNTIL TOMORROW – Interbike Coverage below.

I was recently out East for a trip and ended up riding the very first set of trails I ever rode back in 1997 in Binghamton, New York. Endwell trails have been around for quite some time now and each year I have been back to New York in the past three years or so I have tried to make plans to shoot there and for some reason it never worked out due to crazy weather, the trails not running or any other of the many reasons…until now. I finally got the chance to shoot there this past weekend. It was rad getting to ride with some of my best friends and then finish the day behind the lens. I took some time to sit down and put together interviews with each of the three main locals that have helped keep Endwell alive past and present. Take a few minutes to get some history on one of the many amazing trail spots on the East Coast. When you are done with that be sure to check out the photogallery right here.

Through The Lens: 10 Useful Tips While Shooting a Contest

September 12, 2012

Every week I really just want to provide some sort of feature that is not only an interesting read but a helpful one as well. I was thinking about a few different options for this week and ended up settling on talking a bit about shooting contests and throwing a few useful tips out there. Although not everyone is out there shooting any kind of events/contests on a regular basis it is a great skill to have when the time comes. The more prepared you are, and the more you know the better off you will be. I have been shooting contests for quite some time now and have shot more than I can even begin to count so I have picked up a few things along the way. Take a minute to find out some insider info and feel free to learn a thing or two.

If you couldn’t tell by now, it just so happens that I like to let each week’s column happen as organically as possible. I honestly don’t like trying to have too much of a plan when it comes to the newest TTL’s. I like the fact that every week I have the ability to let the column take different directions and end up where it ends up so to speak. This past Monday I spent Labor Day chillin’ in Long Beach and shooting with Hoffman Bikes Caleb Quanbeck. We spent the day getting stuck at one school and I ended up shooting a bunch of photos while we were there. Since it seemed like Caleb had a newfound motivation to get shit done I wanted to give him the opportunity to have a feature on the site and let everyone know what he has been up to. Check it out.

Through The Lens: Company Check – Quintin Co.

August 29, 2012

I wanted to mix things up a bit and put out an original interview for this weeks column. As a photographer in the BMX industry for the past several years I have come to meet a lot of amazing people and have been to some rad places. Some of those places happen to be company’s headquarters right here in Southern California. I am honored to be able to take the time to go and hang out with some good people and sit them down for an interview. That was the plan when it came to stopping by the Quintin factory. They have been making their way onto the BMX scene for years now and surely you have seen some of your favorite pros rockin’ a Quintin hat at some point. I wanted figure out exactly what Quintin is all about so I sat down with Rob and Brett and fired some questions their way. Sit back, relax and enjoy a look into one of the few BMX apparel brands and find out why they do what they do.

Through The Lens: From The Archives

August 22, 2012

When you shoot on a regular basis the photos just start stacking up and stacking up and before long, you have over 50,000 photos backed up on hard drives. This situation is pretty common for most photographers and although organizing and getting a true archiving system down can be annoying as hell, it is 100% worth it in the long run. I have been recently working on archiving tens of thousands of photos and am slowly making progress. In the meantime I figured I would pull out some photos for an exclusive gallery and inside look at some photos that have fell through the cracks over the years. Enjoy!
