John Lee – The BMX In Our Blood Podcast: Part 1

March 13, 2019

Here’s a fresh episode of The BMX In Our Blood Podcast to check out! This time around Joe Doherty caught up with John Lee to talk about being the nicest guy in BMX, FBM, recovering from a crash that landed him in the hospital, riding, family and more! John is a pretty low key, behind the scenes guy, but he’s always been doing amazing work! This is a super good listen, so hit play and enjoy!

“FBM’s John Lee IS the nicest guy in BMX! Part one of this interview is loaded with emotion as well stories of overcoming trauma through his caring friends and family. There was so much important content to this part 1 podcast that we decided to quit at midnight and finish it up in a few weeks. The questions from you listeners are ready to go!
John Lee is arguably the most inspiring BMXer I have had the opportunity to interview. If you don’t know John or know him but want to learn more, it’s all in here. I was so taken back by his emotion as he talked about his family and friends being there for him from the time of his accident (which he describes in detail). What a great way to kick off the podcast after a month of reflecting, healing and refocusing my personal goals in podcasting.
You can find John at fbmbmx.com or on IG at @popboy905
You can find me on IG at @gromdad2000 or on thebmxinourblood.com where you will also find past episodes and ways to support the podcast.

FBM – Winter Warehouse Session

April 18, 2018

The FBM warehouse ramps have been getting proper use with all that snow on the ground in New York…

It’s been a brutal winter, especially up in the Northeast with the countless snow storms that have been pounding the area the past few months. Fortunately, FBM have a few warehouse ramps to make it a little more bearable. Here’s a video they whipped up from a session that went down with some of the team and family that keep FBM chugging along. It’s a pretty basic setup, but it looks like it leads to plenty of good times and dialed riding. If you want more, you can also check out a bunch of photos from the session RIGHT HERE.

“Late Winter FBM Warehouse/Machine shop Session featuring Garrett Guilliams, Curtis Cantwell, Shane Leeper, John Lee, Kenny Horton, and John Corts!” – FBM

John Lee Jam 2015 Photogallery

A few months back, FBM’s John Lee took a nasty slam that landed him in the hospital for a while and he racked up some heavy medical bills. There was recently a big jam put together to help raise some funds for John! There’s a dialed photogallery by Keith Mulligan from the day giving us a look at the HUGE turn out, some of the fun they had between the mini bike races, sidehack races and more that you can check out over on the ESPN BMX website! BMX might not roll in the big money, but it has one hell of a supportive community that looks out for each other and this is a good reminder of that!

Let’s Help Out John Lee

February 10, 2015

We caught wind that John Lee took a nasty fall at Ray’s in Cleveland the other week and landed himself in the hospital for a while. He’s starting to heal up, but the medical bills are starting to roll in and the guys at FBM have setup a Go Fund Me for people to chip in some cash to help the man out! If you have a few bucks to spare or just a couple seconds to pass the link along, it would be greatly appreciated! Get well soon, John Lee!

“John Lee, also known as the nicest man in BMX, was recently injured in a bicycle accident. Many of you know John as an East Coast Trail riding legend, and one of the key players at the small bicycle company- FBM.
John landed himself in the ER in Cleveland, and soon at a trauma unit for surgery in North Carolina. He is currently with family, recovering from surgeries to repair his eye socket, nasal cavity, broken jaw, and has also knocked out several teeth.
Without medical insurance, the bills will obviously be substantial, however we are asking friends to help out with his travel cost, and expenses incurred while he is unable to work for the next couple of months…
Eating healthy and paying bills with out a job is no easy task, especially while in recovery.
At FBM we will be working on a jam, and other fundraisers. Feel free to participate on any level….
Keep up with John Lee’s smoothie recovery adventures here

Get Well Soon, John Lee

January 27, 2015

John_Lee-FBM-BMX

Always such a bummer when you hear a good guy goes down! John Lee took a nasty spill at Ray’s that landed him in the hospital for some surgery! We just wanted to wish John the best and hope he has a fast and smooth recovery! Expect there to be some ways to help him out in the near future!

“As some of you might have seen via social media, John Lee is in surgery today, as he took a bad spill to his noggin last week at Ray’s, and has to have some facial reconstruction.
John Won’t be able to work for a while, and is a crucial part of the day to day at FBM, so if you are a shop, or customer, please have some patience with us.
Additionally, since John will be out of work, we will be organizing a jam/fundraiser/raffle for him, so keep your ear to the ground.
In the meantime, head here and wish him well!

Through The Lens: Unseen

February 27, 2013

Dean Dickinson BMX

Typically when I shoot photos these days it’s for a specific purpose. Either for a print project, an ESPN feature, something for my column, something for an ad, catalog or anything else a company might need photos for etc. In some cases though I have shot photos over the years that never end up going anywhere but my hard drive. Typically it’s just that they become leftovers and aren’t needed at the moment. Other reasons include riders changing sponsors. For example, if you shoot a rider that is wearing a pair of Etnies and then they get sponsored by Vans you can’t really do anything with the photo of them wearing the Etnies anymore. It sucks but that’s just how it works. Either way though, that is why I love doing this column because I have complete creative control meaning that I get to finally give some of these photos a home and give them a bit of shine-time.

Endwell Late Season 2012 Edit

January 18, 2013

Spotted this gem over on Can You Dig It! Check out Kyle Hibbard, John Lee and Chris Hancock getting a few last goes at the Endwell Trails last fall before the weather went to shit. Don’t forget to check out the Through The Lens spot check at Endwell that Pavia dropped a while back. So good.

“Clips from the end of the 2012 season. Most of the riding is from one line. Cannot wait to get back in the woods with these guys soon. Hopefully 2013 is as good as or better than 2012.”
