The Head Angle Podcast – Eddie Fiola

January 7, 2020

The Head Angle is back after a little hiatus, and they’re back with a banger. This time around Matt Holmes and Tom Boorman sat down with the one and only Eddie Fiola for an interview! This one takes on a lot of history and stories that you won’t want to miss out on! Eddie does not disappoint with this one! Hit play and give it a listen!

“There aren’t many who have stood at the top of a generation of riders, untouchable for their unmatchable style, progressive riding and wins in competition. Names like Hoffman, Mirra, Aitken and Reynolds spring to mind. Yet before them, one name defined freestyle in its infancy, possibly more than anyone will ever do again. We were stoked and more than a little humbled to sit down with one of the greatest.

Eddie Fiola

From his early days in the burgeoning Californian concrete skatepark scene back in the early 80’s, Eddie’s ride into the history books of BMX is more than well documented with endless covers on the likes of Freestylin’, video parts and tours around the world showcasing his ability to blast the hell out of anything and look stylier than anyone doing it. Far from just a rider, his ability to market himself to the world meant he could make a career out of BMX, a well paid one at that and one that saw him step beyond the BMX industry and onto the big screen, a move that has seen him part of more than a few Hollywood productions since the seminal BMX flick ‘RAD’.

Kick back and take in this podcast we’re more than a little proud of with the one and only, the Flying Banana, Eddie Fiola.

Colin Mackay – The Head Angle Podcast

April 17, 2019

The latest episode of The Head Angle Podcast has arrived and this time around Matt Holmes and Tom Boorman have Colin Mackay on the show to tell his story from how he got into riding, making the move to the U.S, riding in big contests, transitioning from a Pro rider to working for brands like Haro and now his current job, Vans, and much, much more! Colin has a long, amazing history in BMX and this is a super good listen! Hit play and take it all in!

“If there’s one rider that showcases just how far you can go on hard work and determination it’s gotta be Colin Mackay.

From humble beginnings not unlike any Australian rider, his drive and determination to take his riding to the world saw him forge a path that nearly every Australian rider since has followed.

His time spent on US soil now spans twenty years, yet his Australian pride runs deeper than ever. From the podiums, his sponsor changes, his place in a video game and current role as Team Manager for the biggest team in BMX under Vans, we delve into Colin’s rich BMX life. A life that still revolves around the simple thing that started it all.” – The Head Angle Podcast

Sneak Peek: 2020 BMX Magazine – Issue 50

March 5, 2014

Here’s one I’m especially stoked on! Our friend, Matt Holmes, is about to release the 50th issue of Australia based, 2020 BMX Magazine! Take a little cruise through the flipbook above for a preview, then get ready for the actual issue to drop March 7th!

“A one off mag back in 1998 has continued to roll out of the collective heads of so many talented people and off the printing press 50 times. I’m quietly amazed, definitely very proud and seriously stoked to have been able to put so much back into something that has given me so much over the years.

Looking back through the issues brings back so many memories. The stories, the photos, the mess ups, the events and the amazing times, they all make up what 2020 was, is and will be. I’ve always wanted to showcase just how good the crew in this country are at riding bike’s, shooting photos and expressing themselves off the bike in all sorts of wild ways.

This issue takes a retrospective look at where we’ve come from alongside some amazing content from all around this crazy country. From the high country’s full pipe to the deep end of many an abandoned pool and the streets of Melbourne. The travels don’t stop there with a loose crew hitting up Japan and we catch up with Coco Zurita while he was on our shores. Blazing on the cover and in the company of some of the best riders Australia has ever produced, Benn Pigot going large on the hallowed transitions of Five Dock.

I’m so stoked to have been able to take this journey and create something I can look back on and feel real pride in doing. When so many told me it couldn’t be done, making it to 50 is one way of proving many wrong, but more-so proving that when we have a dream, not much can stand in the way. Dream big, work out how to make it happen and do it. Simple really.

Available Australia wide in print on March 7th and digitally through the 2020 IOS app the same day. Hit up your local BMX source, newsagent or jump online to the 2020 webstore.” – Matt Holmes / 2020 BMX Magazine

Amigos of Holmes Jam

December 5, 2013

To help raise support for our friend and creator of 2020 BMX Magazine, Matt Holmes, who was recently diagnosed with cancer, a bunch of his friends threw a benefit jam called the Amigos of Holmes. This video gives you a look at the entire day of good times, laughs and support for Matt that looks like was a huge success. Everyone keep Matt in your thoughts because the scene down in Australia wouldn’t be half of what it is today without him!

Amigos of Holmes – The Return of Kev

November 20, 2013

Ah man, this one is a roughy. Our friend, Matt Holmes from 2020 BMX Magazine has been diagnosed with cancer. To rally support and funds to get the treatment, a bunch of people have come together to throw a jam for him on November 30th at the Jindalee skatepark! You can find out everything you need to know on AmigosofHolmes.com! To spread the word, they put out this hilarious video featuring Kevin Keefs Neil that you definitely will want to check out. Please spread the word so Matt can get as much support as possible!

“An integral part Australian BMX needs your help so who better to raise awareness for his situation then the most integral person in Australian BMX, Kevin Keefs Neil.

Matt Holmes, mastermind behind 2020 BMX Magazine and events including House of Hammers and Spinal Disorder, is ill. Matt has had to deal with having a tumor surgically removed from his throat and is now undergoing chemotherapy to beat anything left into remission.

We, the Amigos, have enjoyed a BMX in Australia that has flourished through the coverage and encouragement that Matt Holmes has given. We are endeavouring to help support Matt in his battle by hosting a series of BMX events around Australia to raise funds for Matt’s recovery.

Come and join us at a fundraising jam for Matt at Jindalee skatepark on the 30th of November. Like us on Facebook, Facebook.com/AmigosofHolmes, follow us on Instagram @amigosofholmes and head to amigosofholmes.com to stay up to date!

Filmed by Jack Birtles and Kyle Jacobson. Edited by Jack Birtles and Mitch Wood. Directed by Kevin Keefs Neil.“
