Throwback: Odyssey – Tom Dugan & Mike Aitken In Montana / Idaho

October 10, 2019

Here’s a Throwback Thursday for you to enjoy! Thanks to Youtube’s algorithm, we were suggested this gem from 2013 that we almost forgot about. Check out this old Travel Log video from Odyssey featuring Tom Dugan and Mike Aitken cruising cement parks in Montana and Idaho while rolling place to place in Mike’s Trans AM! This is primarily footage of Tom absolutely ROASTING, but Mike does have a few clips in here. This was a few years after Mike’s accident, so he was still recovering from that. Either way, this kicks a lot of ass and it’s well worth another look, or a first look if you’re just getting into BMX! Joe Rich also did an awesome job with the film work!

“We have an extra special ODSY Vision for you guys this month. Mike Aitken and Tom Dugan hop into the Trans AM and travel through Idaho and Montana to hit up some concrete treasures.

Filmed and Edited by Joe Rich.” – Odyssey

Filming for more than three years, Travis got to be as picky as he wanted with this one, and the time and work he put in shows. Press play and watch this guy CRUSH it!” – Odyssey

Odyssey & G-Sport – Limited Edition Cyan Colorway

August 30, 2019

Odyssey BMX GSport BMX Cyan Colorway

It seems like a lot of brands are celebrating some serious milestones this year! G-Sport is celebrating their 25th anniversary, and to celebrate they’ve released these limited edition Cyan colored rims and complete Elite wheels! Not only that, but Odyssey have even released their Boss V2 and Dugan V2 stems, and Fang sprocket in the same matching Cyan to really help you get a good accent color working on your bike. Not sure if you could pull the Cyan color off on your bike? Get an idea of what it might look like with the BMX Color App.

Everything you see here is available through BMX shops and mail-orders that carry Odyssey and G-Sport now!

“You learn a lot in your first 25 years of life. But when you’ve spent 25 years doing one particular thing you can get damn good at it. From the very beginning, G-Sport was focused on one thing, making bike parts that could hold up to everything that you could throw at them. Born in an age of next to useless bikes that rattled, bent and cracked under the most gentle riding, G-Sport offered a way to finally be able to forget about the bike and concentrate on the riding. Over the years we have had our imitators but they have only ever been weak copies.

Wheels have always been the heart of any bike, they make or break how it rides, so for our 25 year anniversary we are pushing the boat out with these limited edition Cyan rims and completes wheels that showcase legendary strength, unmatched smoothness and reliability. The Cyan color works as a nod to blueprints from back in the day, in addition to being an important part of our packaging and branding over the years.

Thank you all for your continued support!” – George French

“After leaving my previous long time frame Sponsor, it was refreshing to build up a bike like the NoWear “Beast Mode” frame. Super responsive and a few degrees left of normal. I surprised myself getting used to such a strange looking freestyle machine, or maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise!“

How A BMX Fork Is Tested – Odyssey Stampy Fork Test

August 26, 2019

Have you ever wondered how a BMX fork is tested? Anyone who has been riding BMX long enough knows that Odyssey have upheld a reputation of having some amazing forks thanks to their quality and the 41-Thermal heat-treating process they use. This video above gives us a little look into the testing that they do to ensure they are producing the best forks that they can. The video gives you a brief look at how an Odyssey BMX fork is tested in a lab. This doesn’t necessarily apply to other BMX forks, but it’s how they get it done to ensure they are doing it right.

“As part of our mission to make the best BMX forks possible, we continue to refine the 41-Thermal® process at all stages of manufacturing. Each step in the process is held under strict scrutiny, and we continue to examine the strength and fatigue testing methods used to evaluate our designs.

STAMPY TEST GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND THE INDUSTRY STANDARD:
– Much higher load than industry standard EN tests
– Load is applied in the correct direction
– Proper mounting rig to replicate real world use
– Test doesn’t stop until the fork fails

In the previous round of Stampy fork tests we blew the industry standard EN tests for bicycle forks out of the water, and yet we still couldn’t break our own fork. In fact, we had to give up after running the fork for 2,000,000 cycles and with the machine operating at its ultimate limit.

So, in order to push the tests and our forks even harder we created an updated rig design that would let us supply much more force than the last time around. With this test we doubled up the cylinders that are applying the load and ramped the force up by 25%, going from 4000 Newtons to 5000 Newtons. That’s just over half a ton! (1124 lbf per cycle). Even so, at half a million cycles we started to wonder how long our forks were going to last, and since our competitor’s forks had already been taken to failure, we decided to ramp up the load on our forks to 6000 Newtons (1349 lbf), 50% higher than the previous tests, and after over 650,000 cycles, we were finally able to break them.

It is important to note that the 41-Thermal forks not only outperformed every other model that we tested by a huge margin, but that they did so while being lighter than most of the other forks too. This is direct evidence that proper design, engineering and manufacturing are much more important factors than simply always making the part heavier in hopes of making it stronger.

UNMATCHED AND LEGENDARY LIFETIME WARRANTY:
– Best in class replacement program
– Warranty against bending, cracking, and breaking
– No fine print to limit coverage to basic manufacturing defects

When you see how hard we push to make the best forks; to make them better and better every chance we get, it is easy to understand why our legendary lifetime warranty against bending and breaking is still around 20 years after we first introduced it. And when you see the contrast between our forks and our competitors you can also quickly see why most of their warranties have long since been quietly canceled or modified with complicated terms and conditions that usually limit the warranty to manufacturing defects alone.

Feel free to contact us at stampy@odysseybmx.com with any questions you may have.” – Odyssey
