I can’t remember exactly when I saw a Barcode frame for the first time. It had to be about ten years ago when I was just starting to get to know some of the older guys riding in the scene around where I grew up. I remember that everyone was jealous of the guy with this bomb proof frame by Terrible One. At that time, pretty much all the older guys were riding Standard, DK, S&M or Volume frames. There were even a few guys who were on Gack’s. The thing was, it seemed like everyone still wanted that Barcode frame.
Since then, the reputation for Terrible One has held strong over all these years. They’ve been through a lot of ups and downs in that time too. Throughout it all, they were still producing high quality products. I mean there’s a reason I’m riding a T1 frame today. Because it’s a brand I trust.
Over the last year or two, things have definitely started picking back up for the brand with updated products becoming available and that elusive Cyclops stem that has been up for speculation for the better part of the last 5 years or so getting real close to its release. I figured it would be a good time to get ahold of Joe Rich to see what’s cooking these days. So let’s check out what he had to say!

On The Horizon: Coalition
BMX is an interesting sport because it’s constantly evolving and changing. Trends, styles and riders drive the party bus and brands are constantly trying to keep up with the demands and innovations needed to keep things going in the right direction and for the fun to never stop. Over the years, brands have come and gone, have risen to the top and fallen to the bottom of the barrel and single products or team additions have brought brands back to life… Hell, there are even brands that have killed their selves off just the start over and come back stronger than before.
Recently I was talking with Mark Owen about some of the changes going on with some of the brands that Sidewall carry. Mark mentioned some big changes going on with Coalition that really caught my attention. One of the big things he mentioned was that Coalition’s creator, Greg Walsh, would be coming back on board to handle all aspects of the brand once again. Mark then mentioned that they would be dropping an all new website and a bunch of new products soon.
We decided it would be a good to drop a Q&A about all the changes going on with the brand with Greg and Mark to go with the launch of their new website, new products and new direction. So, let’s see what they have cooking…

On The Horizon: DUB
Over the last few years, I have watched DUB go from web videos, to massive jams, to a full blown rider owned clothing brand. This core group of heavy hitting street riders has gown and expanded with a highly respected reputation in that time as well. Recently, Jack added yet another venture to the mix to better support the riders who support him by opening The Loot. Seeing this put me over the edge and I knew it was more than a good time to find out a little bit about this ever growing brand. Let’s see what DUB is all about…

On The Horizon: Superstar
Superstar have been a brand in BMX for just about a decade now. In that time, they’ve survived the ups and downs of the BMX industry with their quality, aesthetically pleasing products. These past few months, the brand has been catching my eye more and more with additions of new team riders and a number of new products. I’ve been talking quite a bit with their team manager, Pierre Blondel, and figured it was more than a good time to find out a little bit more about what this brand is all about. I shot through some questions to Pierre to get the history of the brand, find out more about their current products, where the brand is going and their team. Let’s see what he had to say…

On The Horizon: Shape Bicycles
Over the course of the last few months, I’ve been seeing this brand named “Shape” popping up here and there. Each time, there was more backing of it being a real brand and it sparked me attention. I recently got in touch with Sylvain, who owns Shape Bicycles to find out more about this new brand that has been starting to emerge. It turns out that there’s some good things coming from this rider owned brand. Let’s find out a little bit more about this new project…
OTH – And Forks
It’s not every day that I have the opportunity to introduce a new brand to the world. It’s not that there’s a lack of new brands these days, but there is a lack of brands that get me excited when I heard about them. And Forks is a new brand (so new that their website isn’t even up yet) coming from the master mind of Mark Noble, the owner of the trails directed brand Deluxe, that focuses specifically on one main product… forks. Don’t get the wrong idea, street guys. This isn’t a trails specific brand, in fact, I think you might be shocked at who is actually on the team for this new project.
And Forks wasn’t going to debut until Interbike, but after a little convincing, Mark decided to answer some questions about the brand to let you know what’s On The Horizon for this new project. So let’s take a look at what the And Forks is all about…

On the Horizon: Cardinal Bikes
Cardinal is one of the newer brands that joined the industry over the past few years and there’s no doubt that they are sticking to their heavily street influenced style. This rider owned brand is making some moves for 2011 and into the next year. I figured it was a good time to catch up with the man in charge, Nate Moroshan, to talk a little bit about what Cardinal is all about and where it’s going in the future. Let’s take a look…
