How To Maximize Your BMX Brakes

April 17, 2018

Brant Moore and Patrick Kelly explain a little trick to give you the most power out of your brakes.

Here is this week’s Tech Tip Tuesday from Brant Moore. This time around he teamed up with Patrick Kelly the BMX Science Guy to explain a little trick that can maximize the power of your BMX brakes. This is a pretty simple concept that has plenty of science behind it to prove it works, so hit play and take it all in.

“Through my years of riding brakes I’ve come across many ways to improve their function. This is one of the ways that I can’t explain adequately myself so I hit up Patrick Kelly for help.” – Brant Moore

10 BMX Science Facts You Might Not Know

April 11, 2018

Patrick Kelly teaches you 10 BMX science facts you might not know…

Here’s an interesting video that The BMXican put together featuring Patrick Kelly explaining the science behind riding BMX. Patrick is not only a really dialed BMX rider, but he’s also a science teacher and he knows his stuff. In this video he discusses things like friction, momentum, law of conservation of energy and more. You probably understand how a lot of this works, but never knew the science behind it. If you ever struggled to pay attention in science class, this will probably help you understand things much easier. Take a look!

Patrick does most of the talking in this one, so if you want to see him riding, check out this video — Patrick Kelly – Have Fun, Ride Bikes

Here’s a video they cooked up from the clips that they stacked during their visit! Looks like it was a good time to us! Check it!

“The tribe spent a full week stuck in a cabin out at Camp Woodward, PA this year. After all the camp shenanigans and sight seeing around PA we managed to still film an edit. Enjoy the likes of Patrick Kelly, Dylan Gold, Habo Gutierrez, Mason Burke, Jack O’Leary, and TM Nathan Wallace do there thing around camp.

Check out this rad welcome to the team BMX video where Patrick puts his front brakes and pegs to good use, cooking up some technical lip tricks at a few of his local skateparks! Patrick Kelly – Have Fun, Ride Bikes

July 31, 2015

You don’t even know how stoked we get when Patrick Kelly drops us a link to a new video that he has put out! Today we were given this gift of front brake magic from some of the sessions that Patrick has been getting in lately. Check out a ton of creative lip tricks that he’s cooked up with the help of those front brakes and freecoaster making for one hell of a good watch. There’s also a little cameo from Cody Clark and Dave White in this that is rad, too. All in all… This is a BMX video you gotta check out!

“BMX makes for some of the highest highs and lowest lows. The same thing that give you an excuse to travel, make new friends, and take satisfaction in progression also invokes bouts of rage that make you question why you ride in the first place. At the end of the day, the best message is to just have fun and ride bikes.

Eric “Buddha” Horrell is 43 and Shreds BMX

July 23, 2015

Now this is what we’re talking about! Check out Eric “Buddha” Horrell showing you young guns what the front brake magic is all about at a handful of skateparks and backyard ramp setups! Eric might be 43, but he has way more than 43 reasons why he kicks ass in this video alone! Get on that play button because this is one BMX video you won’t want to pass up on! Stoked on this.

“When you’re a 43 year old man with a successful job who owns another successful company, the last thing you think about is a 20″ BMX bike. Buddha is that 43 year old, but instead of making excuses for why he shouldn’t ride, he still progresses and sends burly tech tricks in parks around Arizona.

Patrick Kelly’s Summer Brakation

August 14, 2014

Hell yeah! I don’t remember the last time we say a video from Patrick Kelly, but I can tell you he’s back with some front brake magic for you now! Hit play to see some of the clips he has filmed over the summer at different parks around California.

“After undergrad, I returned home to San Jose, CA with the saltiest crew of brothers a guy could ask for. 3 years of living and working in the Bay Area was fun, but it was time for a change, so I applied for graduate school and ended up getting into Arizona State. This video shows a few of the trips I got to go on over the summer. Thanks to Scott and Sam at Tree, Nikita at FDV, and Ian at Premises Park.

Front Brake Brethren – Patrick Kelly

May 6, 2014

In a world filled with brakeless freecoaster riders, it’s refreshing to see videos like this one Patrick Kelly dropped putting that front brake to good use! This is one video well worth hitting that play button on!

“There’s a little story behind the song choice here. I started riding in 2003 when bike riding looked a little different than it does now. The bikes were heavier and taller. Riders were psyched on Metro Jams before there was a Texas Toast. I got exposure to BMX through a little project called Props video magazine, where bands like Lucero, Hot Water Music, and Jawbreaker were commonly the background music of choice. I’m not old school by any means, but those bands encapsulate a period of BMX I long for and wish I could revisit. Ergo, no hip hop, no electronic, and absolutely no dubstep in my edits. – PK
