Spotted this on Can You Dig It. Clint Reynolds and his crew are down in Brazil shaping the dirt course for the X-Games this week. After all of the hard work, you might as well get a quick run or two in, right? Clint strapped a GoPro to his helmet to give you a look at what they put together. Take a look!

Remembering X-Games with Jimmy Levan

April 15, 2013

ESPN BMX caught up with Jimmy Levan to talk about his experience at the very first X-Games back in 1995. Definitely a few funny stories in this quick video.

Red Bull Phenom

April 8, 2013

It looks like the X-Games are making some changes to help give some unknown talent the chance to get some shine time. Find out all about Red Bull Phenom in the video above and the press release below, then get out their and start stacking clips.

“Are you the next BMX street legend? You could be about to find out, as Red Bull launches Red Bull Phenom, a search for the hottest new action sports stars. To enter you simply need to submit a 60 second video of yourself pulling off your best moves and register on redbullphenom.com between April 8th to June 17th. The videos will then be judged on talent, performance and style by BMX icon Mike Escamilla, the man who even backflipped a helicopter once. The six best BMX street ‘phenoms’ will receive a once-in-a-lifetime all-expenses paid trip to X Games Los Angeles, Calif. USA in August where they will compete against each other for a chance to have their own video profile produced by Red Bull.

Comments Mike Escamilla: “I’m pretty stoked to be a part of

Red Bull Phenom. It is a great opportunity to be an ambassador of a sport I have given everything to and to help find and nurture the next generation of talent.”

The competition is open to non-pros between the ages of 13 and 19. All you have to do to enter is upload your video to YouTube using the key words “Red Bull Phenom” and then submit the video link and other information onto redbullphenom.com. Full entry details and rules can also be found on the website.

So don’t waste any time. Get out there and nail that move and send us the YouTube link!

X-Games – Brazil Invites + Explaination

March 27, 2013

Spotted this on the Ride BMX website and found it interesting. After the blow out from Corey Bohan not being invited to X-Games Brazil, the people at the Hoffman Sports Association decided to give an explanation for why they chose who the chose. Take a peek at what they had to say below, then check out the full list of riders who were invited.

“X Games BMX Invite Committee

“The X Games BMX Invite Committee is a group led by the Hoffman Sports Association and is independent of ESPN. The committee is made up of 8 people who are actively involved with BMX Freestyle and who each have more than 20 years’ experience in BMX Freestyle. The Hoffman Sports Association does not release the names of committee members as to prevent riders, team managers, sponsors, etc. from trying to influence a committee member’s vote.

“The committee reviews competition results of the past 12-18 months, as well as, video parts and other current riding examples to invite the best riders for each specific course for each event. The invite list for the 2013 X Games events reflect the very best talent in BMX Freestyle today. Of course, there are many extremely talented riders who are not on the list, but there are only 8 invite spots for BMX Big Air and Dirt, and 10 invite spots for BMX Park, Street and Vert.”

X-Games Brings Back Dirt

December 10, 2012

Spotted this press release up on the Fat BMX explaining what the X-Games will be including in their expansion for all of the different stops for 2013. One of those key items would be that they are bringing dirt back. It doesn’t specify at which stops, but I’d imagine any or all of the stops including BMX Freestyle will have a dirt contest. Looks like X-Games are finally starting to listen to the BMX community, so that’s awesome news.

“ESPN, the leading action sports content provider and creator of the X Games, kicks off a new era with the 2013 global expansion’s six-event schedule – featuring eight sports, 26 disciplines and new iconic venues from inaugural host cities Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil; Barcelona, Spain; and Munich, Germany. Joining the existing world-class events in Aspen, Colo.; Los Angeles, Calif.; and Tignes, France, the three new cities will combine to offer the most wide-ranging program of sports and disciplines in X Games history, including the addition of Mountain Bike Slopestyle, Women’s Skateboard Park and the return of BMX Freestyle Dirt.

With the disciplines set, event planning and course designs underway, this expansion will be the first of its kind for the franchise in terms of size, scope and scale – setting a global stage to spotlight the world’s best action sports athletes in BMX, Skateboard, Moto X, Rally Car, Ski, Snowboard and Snowmobile – while also highlighting new and unique lifestyle, cultural and digital elements around the world.

“ESPN is giving athletes a tremendous opportunity to succeed and gain more exposure in their respective sports,” said action sports icon and 17-time X Games medalist Travis Pastrana. “It is awesome to see X Games not only take these sports to more cities globally, but I love seeing new sports added and the return of past, popular events.”

Tim Reed, senior director, X Games content strategy said, “We’re very excited to embark on this new chapter of X Games global expansion and to offer such a wide array of locations and amazing backdrops for the sport disciplines in 2013. Showcasing the world’s best action sports athletes in six world-class host cities will enable fans to experience premier competition and the unique culture synonymous with the new world of X Games.”

Richard “A-Wire” Lecky’s Mission to the X-Games

November 28, 2012

This is pretty awesome. It’s not every day we see footage from Jamaica, so it’s good to see there’s a scene growing there. Richard “A-Wire” Lecky has a bigger dream to really put Jamaican riders in front of the world to see. Check out this video to find out more. Somebody make this happen!

“Richard “A-Wire” Lecky is a PRO BMX rider from Jamaica with dreams of competing in the X Games in 2013.
Despite being from a lower income background and having no access to skate parks or bike shops on the island, this 28 year old has overcome numerous obstacles in order to follow his dream. In 2013, he plans to be the first (and only) Jamaican to represent the small island in Freestyle BMX.
Not content with simply competing, A-Wire is already the face of a growing BMX culture in the Caribbean. With big plans to change the face of the sport, he also carries the hope of inspiring kids and other young adults to work hard and follow their dreams despite life’s obstacles.
