“Foundations of Style” BMX Podcast – Issue #4 Our Machines

February 14, 2017

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/307366940″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]

Pat Fisher sent over the 4th installment of the “Foundations of Style” podcast for your viewing pleasure. This time around, the focus is more on bikes and how they can have an affect on the way we ride, progress, etc. Hit play and take it in.

“Issue four of the “Foundations of Style” series examines the relationship between the bikes we ride and how we ride them. From the individual scale of how we limit ourselves by using products for only their advertised purpose, to the global scale of how wealth distribution determines what technology is utilized where, this analysis reveals the socioeconomic bias of BMX’s linear progress narrative and shows how it serves to actively marginalize alternative riding styles and those riders creating them.

This series is also available in text form through ImprimaturBMX.com

“Decent” Wreck Section

February 13, 2017

Crashing sucks, but it’s hard not to watch somebody else do it…

Snakebite coming through with another section from the “Decent” video for your viewing pleasure. This time around, we get one of the ever popular crash sections that are always hard to look away from and even harder to stop yourself from laughing, swearing, making a weird “OOOOOOH” sound or a combination of all three. The wreck section from “Decent” has BMX crashes from street missions and skatepark sessions. This one isn’t too gorey, it looks like maybe one or two T.K.O’s, but overall pretty tame for a crash section… Which is a good thing if you are one of the guys filming for the video, right? Hit play and check it out!

Colin Varanyak – Barcelona Abandoned Water Park Session

February 13, 2017

We know how much you guys love to get sessions in at an abandoned water park…

Colin Varanyak has been spending some time exploring Barcelona, Spain after Simple Session. One of the days he was there, he had the chance to explore an abandoned Water Park that hasn’t been used in what appears to be years. This video kicks off with some cruising around the city, a session at one of the many skateparks that Barcelona has to offer, a little session with the drone, then they make their way to this gem of a spot. This one isn’t quite as wild as the one Billy Perry and Anthony Panza rode (Ironically they were leaving Barcelona the day Colin went to ride this), but it still had plenty of interesting setups to ride. Hit play on the video above and check out everything Colin got into from the session at the skatepark to the abandoned water park! This is a real solid video even though we’re not huge on the whole vlogging thing, but this one caught our eye for sure. Anyone else craving a session at this place? We could see this place popping up in more videos in the future with so many riders exploring Barcelona every year.

Abandoned Water Park

“Amazing day thanks to @MLRIDEBMX no better feeling than making a journey to ride something unique.”

Have you guys come across any interesting abandoned water parks that you have managed to catch a session on? We have seen a few over the years pop up in different videos, but obviously it’s a risky thing to do since you can get in a lot of trouble for trespassing, or even vandalism if the park is just closed for the season. Let us know in the comments if you have hit up any cool spots, or have links to videos or photos from sessions. We definitely want to see what you have found!

Merritt BMX – Battle Cranks

February 13, 2017

Merritt have released their new Battle cranks that are designed to stand up to anything you can throw at them from street sessions to skateparks and trails.

Merritt BMX Battle Cranks

Is it time for some new BMX Cranks? The crew over at Merritt have released their new Battle Cranks that are available through BMX shops and mail-orders worldwide now. The Battle cranks start out with fully heat-treated 4130 chromoly arms with wrap welded spindle and pedal bosses. The arms have a rectangle shape to help increase the overall strength and a laser-etched Merritt logo. The arms connect to a 22mm hollow chromoly spindle with chromoly bolts that also come with rubber plugs to help prevent the dreaded crank arm bite. To make things easier, Merritt have included the tool for installation and removal.

The Merritt Battle cranks come in black with lengths of 165mm, 170mm and 175mm, a weight of 33.8 oz. (without bottom bracket) for $179.99 through BMX shops and mail-orders now. Since both arms come with sprocket bosses, these are left and right side drive compatible. Note: These cranks do NOT come with a bottom bracket.

Check out more from from Merritt.

Kink – Rust Belt Tour Video

February 13, 2017

The Kink team loaded up for a road trip around the Rust Belt to visit skateparks and shops.

A few weeks back Chris Doyle, Tony Hamlin, Chad Osburn, Darryl Tocco, Jay Roe, Casey Starling, Travis Hughes, Dan Coller, Jake Petruchik and Marcus Christopher loaded up for a road trip to a handful of skateparks and shops around the Midwest. Here’s a video giving you a look at the riding and good times that went down on the trip. This video definitely has a Props vibe to it with the interviews, music and everything. This video turned out awesome, Darryl did an amazing job with this one. Check it all out! We would not mind seeing more BMX videos like this again.

“Jump in the van, and hit the road with the team as we make stops at some of the best indoor parks, and bike shops between Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Rochester, NY. Filmed over the course of a week on the move, with some of your favorite Kink Team Riders riding indoor skateparks in the dead of the Rustbelt Winter.

Filmed and edited by Darryl Tocco
Additional filming by Jay Roe, Dan Coller, and Chad Osburn
