Schwinn “American Muscle” Behind the Scenes (1996)

What were you doing in 1996? Since I have a feeling a good number of people checking this out may not have existed yet, or were super young at the time, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise that they weren’t watching the Schwinn “American Muscle” video that coincidentally featured a few of BMX’s legends that you might be familiar with. The crew at Snakebite BMX uploaded 13 minutes of raw behind the scenes footage filmed during a mini ramp session. Back with full face helmets, front and back brakes were the norm. Plenty of gold packed into this one, so hit play and take it all in!

“While filming for the infamous Schwinn video Osato & Miron decided to drive south of the border and ride my friend Andrews ramps. Andrew had his camera that day and filmed the session. Featuring Dave Osato, Jay Miron, Andrew Ryser, Ben Marin, Rich Hirsch, Jason Enns, & Nathan Penonzek.
At the end there are a few clips at Jarek’s ramp it that was not in the same town.

It’s that time again for another round of the Imprimatur BMX Podcast. This time around Mike Hinkens caught up with Rich Hirsch to talk about BMX with more focus on the marketing and business side of things that makes for a real interesting listen if you’re interested in that side of BMX. Rich has done it all over the years, so it’s pretty interesting to get his perspective on things!

Through a discussion of his experiences with video production, being a pro rider, being an art director, managing multiple teams and brands, and much more over the last twenty years, they discuss a multitude of topics including: the role companies play in modern BMX, the detriment of our racing roots, advertising through social media influencers, the ups and downs of Lotek and Stranger, authenticity in BMX, and much more.
