Quicky: Brian Hunt

June 18, 2012

Brian Hunt BMX

Brian is one of those guys that no matter the situation, he’s got a really positive attitude and a smile on his face. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to hang out with him a bunch of times and I can’t remember a single time I’ve never seen him not excited about whatever it is he’s doing. Things headed a little south for him at the Asian X-Games a few weeks back and he’s been healing up from shoulder surgery. We figured it would be a good time to fill up some of his free time and find out what he has been doing lately. Surprisingly enough, it looks like he’s been making the best of the situation and it hasn’t been getting him down! Check it!

Josh Perry BMX

Josh Perry is one of those riders who is always on it and always a treat to watch ride whether it’s a new edit, a contest run or even a demo. Not only that, he’s been pretty consistent with filming and editing edits lately too. We figured since we haven’t talked to him since his interview that we dropped back in 2008, that it would be a good time to catch up with him to find out what’s new in his life. As expected, it sounds like he’s got a ton of good things going for himself. Check out what he had to say!

Videos: Matt Brown

June 11, 2012

All photos by Skinny

Over the last few months, I’ve been seeing this name, Matt Brown, popping up on the ESPN website. His name was always attached as the filmer and editor of a real good video that was filmed in a different country each time. I was starting to get curious who this guy was bouncing around the world to film with guys like Ruben Alcantara in Spain, Matthias Dandois in France, Paul Ryan and Phil Demattia in the U.K and Chad Phaire in New York. I recently got in touch with him to find out a little bit more about Matt and to find out how he got into the filming, editing and photography side of BMX. Let’s check out what he had to say…

On The Horizon: Coalition

June 4, 2012

Coalition BMX

BMX is an interesting sport because it’s constantly evolving and changing. Trends, styles and riders drive the party bus and brands are constantly trying to keep up with the demands and innovations needed to keep things going in the right direction and for the fun to never stop. Over the years, brands have come and gone, have risen to the top and fallen to the bottom of the barrel and single products or team additions have brought brands back to life… Hell, there are even brands that have killed their selves off just the start over and come back stronger than before.
Recently I was talking with Mark Owen about some of the changes going on with some of the brands that Sidewall carry. Mark mentioned some big changes going on with Coalition that really caught my attention. One of the big things he mentioned was that Coalition’s creator, Greg Walsh, would be coming back on board to handle all aspects of the brand once again. Mark then mentioned that they would be dropping an all new website and a bunch of new products soon.
We decided it would be a good to drop a Q&A about all the changes going on with the brand with Greg and Mark to go with the launch of their new website, new products and new direction. So, let’s see what they have cooking…

With the release of the new 90East video “Sound of the City” last week, we figured it would be a good time to catch up with Lino Gonzalez to find out more about the video and what it took to make their second DVD release. So let’s take a closer look at what you can find in this new video from the riders to the camera gear to where you can pick yourself up a copy. You aren’t going to want to sleep on this video…

Photos: Sandy Carson

May 31, 2012

Looking back over the years, it’s kind of crazy how things happen. I was probably around 14 or 15 the first time I met Sandy Carson. It was at an Etnies Demo if I remember right. After that I some how ended up emailing him and to my surprise he responded and was always really friendly to this random kid for reasons I never understood. Over the years, I’ve stayed in touch with Sandy for different things and it’s always awesome catching up with him since he’s always getting into something completely different and unique whether it’s bikes, photos or music. It had been a little while since I hit him up and figured with the release of his revamped portfolio website, SandyCarson.com, a little while back that it would be a good time to see if he would be up for answering a few questions and sending through some photos for you to check out. Let’s see what he had to say, then check out a quick Photogallery…

Brett Silva Interview

May 25, 2012

Brett Silva BMX

A few years back I was watching the first AOTC video and I saw Brett Silva riding for the first time. I was thinking if this kid keeps it up he’s going to be real good. Then the second AOTC video came along and Brett’s name popped up again. Except this time he had progressed an insane amount. I will even go as far as saying it was one of my favorite sections in that whole DVD. I knew it would be a good idea to keep the kid on the radar and see where he goes with things.
Since then, Brett has found himself riding for Eastern and consistently dropping some fresh clips in edits that have been real impressive.
The other week, Scott Crivellaro sent through a photo of Brett doing that massive deck drop above All I could think is this kid is due for an interview on here. So Scott got me in touch with Brett and we fired him some questions to find out what he’s all about! Check out what he had to say…

Billy Perry Interview

May 22, 2012

Billy Perry
Photo: Jon Nemecek

Billy is one of those newer names that has been popping up more and more the past year or so. In that time, he’s had a handful of edits drop that have all shown that he’s capable of throwing down some serious riding. After recently getting picked up by Volume and Demolition, we figured it would be a good time to catch up with this kid who comes from Long Island and find out more about him. It turns out he’s got a lot of other talents outside of riding a bike, so Let’s see what he had to say!
