No Bikes: Four Corners DVD

February 17, 2008

Name of DVD:
Four Corners.

Photo: Anou Souvannavong

How long has it been out for?
About seven hours.

How long did it take to film and edit?
We usually put out a video every year, last year we slacked a bit. There’s a few clips from two summers ago but most of the footage is from the last year.

Photo: Zac Heinen

Who did the filming and editing? o
I was in charge of the project; since we’re fairly spread out, a few people helped out with footage. Ty Scott, Travis Burroughs and Ryan Hiebert handled filming in BC, Matt Lindsay filmed himself in Taiwan, Ryan Harley did some work in Fairbanks and Zac Heinen and Brian Prince helped me film around Anchorage. I handled most of the editing in the main feature, Matt and Brian each edited their sections.

What kind of equiptment did you use to film and edit?
I film with a Panasonic DVX100 and edit on Adobe premiere.

Photo: Zac Heinen

Who all has parts?
There are full sections from Matt Desson, David Clay, Matt Lindsay and myself. There are a few split sections with guys who ride together as well, I like to include as many as my friends as I can, it’s a long list.

What are some of the highlights you can tell us about?
Travis Sexsmith’s tables, they’re incredible. Matt Desson has an awesome part, the guy’s seriously a machine. Desson learns tricks really fast, he just loves bmx, you can see it in his riding. My friend David has the last part, he was one of those kids doing 720s and flip barspins at 16 (but in Alaska with a six month riding season). David broke his back at the trails last fall but come spring he was back on his bike and came through with a great section. In addition to the riding, there are a bunch of awesome spots that nobody’s ever seen. Alaska’s pretty amazing, good spots and the sun doesn’t go down until one in the morning in June.

Is there any bonus parts?
My friend Zac did an alternate edit with all of the Alaskan footage, it’s about twenty minutes long. There are a few more things, a couple web edits, slideshow, an old skate section with my friend Dave hidden in there.

Where all was it filmed?
Alaska, British Columbia, Taiwan and four clips from my vacation in Florida.

Where can people pick it up?
www.nobikes.com or from Desson if you run into him.

How much?
Ten bucks, that includes shipping in Canada and the US.

Photo: Zac Heinen

Where can people find out more about the DVD and No bikes crew?
nobikes.com, I update it once or twice a week if I can.

Sam Adams Interview

February 9, 2008

Sam is one of my favorite photographers and has a bunch of photo’s in the new Ride Photo Edition. His stuff is sick and I knew instantly I wanted to send him an interview. Hear what he has to see and check out a few of his pictures:

Name, age and location?
Sam Adams, 21, Albuquerque, NM
Sam Adams Photography
Photo setup/s?
I have a general bag for BMX and most basic assignments that includes; a Canon MKIIn camera body; a 15mm, 16-35mm, 85mm, and 70-200mm lenses; a Canon 580ex flash, a Quantum Q-Flash w/ battery pack and three pocket wizards.

I have other lights and gear for portraits and some long glass for sports.

How long have you been riding?
I started riding back in middle school when my dad took me to the BMX track here in ABQ and I just fell in love right away. So I raced for about 3 years until the local skate park, Los Altos, opened up and that’s when I started riding park and dirt almost exclusively.

How did you get into photography and how long have you been shooting BMX?
I got into photography my sophomore year in high school, so about 5 years ago. I need to take an elective that year and photography sounded like it would be fun. So I signed up and from the moment I shot and developed my first roll of film I was hooked.
BMX at the time was my life, it was all I did; so when I started taking photos I did it to show anyone who didn’t ride all the cool places that my bike took me and the unique lifestyle that we as riders lived. I believe that idea or wanting to show the lifestyle and locations we end up at shows up in my photos more now then ever though.

Photobucket

I noticed you have a full-blown website with a very impressive online portfolio. Is photography something you live off of or do you have another job?
At this point I don’t have another job, all the income I make comes from photography. However, since I am student and I live at home (yes, I live at home), so I don’t have a lot of bills to pay so I don’t have to worry about making enough to live on right now. I did have a job as a bike mechanic at the university’s bike shop last semester.

Do you see yourself making a living shooting photos?
Making a living from photography is my goal. Right now I am a full time student at the University of New Mexico (UNM). So school takes up a big amount of my time. So I shoot and do as much freelance work as I can outside of school.

Who do you most enjoy shooting photos of and why?
Well my friends are my absolute favorite people to photograph. I have unlimited access and can shoot anything at any time with them. They allow me to try new ideas and techniques, and I can screw up or take a long time and not have to worry about a client getting mad.

In the digital age, where post processing on programs such as Photoshop and Aperture is becoming the norm, are you quick to utilize the technology or do you believe that a shot shouldn’t be touched and it is what it is? Just tell us your general feelings on the debate.
Hum, that is a hard one. I’ll answer this in two parts. First off, this is the digital age and you have to be quick to utilize new technology to help keep you on par and up to speed with everyone else. So I would say yes, I am pretty quick to utilize new technology.
So my second answer is when it comes to working on photos in Photoshop or Aperture it really depends on a few things. I work every one of my favorite images from a shoot through Photoshop. However, the amount of work done depends on the final location of the image.
By location I mean where is this picture going to end up. If I am on an editorial assignment, such as for a newspaper, then very little work is done to the image such as simple tonality adjustments and cropping; absolutely no altering of the image content is done (ie. adding or removing things, selective color, added blur, etc.). However, on the other side if this image is for commercial or personal use anything goes. Generally I keep most of my adjustments as minimal as can be and try and do everything in camera.

Photobucket

Give us a few stories where something crazy has gone down while you were trying to shoot photos. BMX and Non-BMX.
Oh boy where to start? I’ve been chased by cops, arrested, yelled at, trespassed countless times, chased by people who want to shoot me, followed police pursuits, watched houses burn down, run from wildfires, photographed fatal accidents, etc. The list just goes on and on.
One of the best things about being a photographer is that every image has a story. Anyone could point out an image of mine from any point in time and when I look at that image it takes me back to the time when I shot it. I can remember the whole story behind the shot. So I am going to kind of dodge this question because if I tried to tell you a story it would end up taking 3-4 pages. But instead I invite anyone who ever has a question about a photo to ask me and I’ll be glad to tell you.

Most amazing place you have ever shot photo’s:
Once again, so many places it’s so hard to choose. However, probably the most beautiful places I’ve photographed are Vancouver, British Columbia and Big Sur, CA.

As opposed to a lot of other photographers out there, you have an educational background with photography. Do you feel that it gives you that edge or are some people just amazing without photography courses and school?
The only thing going to a photography school gave me was lots of time to shoot. Photography isn’t something that can be taught in school, I believe. It is something that has to be practiced and studied all the time. All photo school gave me was lots of time to practice and study. If you’ve got the drive and motivation to go out and shoot without having to be told to, then you’re a lot better off then a lot of the kids that I went to school with.
My best learning experiences came from real life learning experiences such as internships and assistantships. Those are your best choices if you really want to learn how to be a better shooter.

Photobucket

Describe your ideal shot…. anything goes.
The best thing about photography is the ideal (perfect) shot never exists. You should always be striving to make everything better. You have to be your toughest critic.

The best thing about it is I’ll never get bored. There is always something I can do better.

Do you find yourself shooting more 35mm, digital or medium-format?
Primarily 99% of my work is digital. It is just so much more cost effective for me and it is just how the world works for the most part. I do shoot film every now and again when I want to change things up a little bit.

Photobucket

What are some recent projects you worked on or some you are currently working on?
Right now I am working on a project for the Daily Lobo, the school paper at UNM. We are doing a feature on various athletes here at school and I am shooting a portrait of them. It is an idea that I proposed to the paper to help switch things up there a bit and to allow me to give me a chance to work on making some unique portraits.

Shoutouts and Thanks:
With out my parents support (and rent free living at home haha) I wouldn’t be where I am now. They have been great. Also, all my friends from ABQ who have been there for me when I need them. Especially, those who have given me the time and freedom to practice shooting. As well as anyone else who has supported me and helped me get to the point where I am today.

Oh and of course AJ for giving me this interview to do when I should be doing homework (this is so much better then college algebra, trust me).

Dusty Hansen Interview

January 27, 2008

This interview is my first contribution to this website. I decided to interview a local from Undercover Skatepark in Wisconsion named Dusty Hansen. I met Dusty on a biking trip a couple years back. I was riding and he just showed up and started shredding it. Dusty is a rider with serious skills, and a great person to chat with. But hey, dont take my word for it. Just check out the interview.

Name
Dusty Allen Hansen

Age
20 Years Young

Location-Currently:
Neenah WI. Seconds From The Original Brian Kachinsky Residence.

Occupation
Pipe Welder

Sponsors
Dead End Army

How long have you been riding for?
Around 6 Years

What first got you into bmx?
I was cruisin’ for the ladies like 8th graders do best and I saw 2 guys filming on a rail that can be found in BACO 9. Turns out as I developed an interest, the two guys turned out to be Dave Freimuth and Tony Mortenson.

Best biking memory?
I have so many awesome memories from riding, but I would say that my best moment would be getting to meet Walter Pieringer and film some clips with him. He’s all around one of the nicest guys that I have ever met.

How often do you ride?
I try to as much as possible, but with the Wisconsin Winter and work right now I’m down to about 2 days out of the week.

Favorite place to ride?
I’m up for riding anything, but if I were to pick a favorite, I would have to say Street in Marshfield, Wisconsin as odd as it may sound, Undercover, and Street In California.

Riding with you at Undercover and watching you compete was really nuts, you seem to have that park dialed.

How often do your ride there?
Well since it’s the Winter from Hell in Wisconsin currently, I ride there whenever I get the chance. I rarely miss a session there weekly.

Watching your videos and your riding in person makes it hard for me to tell whether youre a tech guy or a go big guy. Which are you?!
Both ! It really varies. I like tech riding a lot, and it’s a good test to see if I can do bigger tech stuff.

What tricks do you like to do best?
I dig spinning a lot, Tailwhips, big wallrides, and things in those/in/out of those.< What was the hardest trick for you to learn?
I had the hardest time in the world trying to learn Fakie-Whips. But with the help of PowerThirst I land them EVERY time.

Is there anyone that has a big influence on your riding style?
I like watching Brandon Hoerres get sexual with ramps. I would have to say him hands down.

Who do you look up to for bmx pro’s and why?
I would say Brandon Hoerres, simply because he is extremely modest with his accomplishments. Same goes for Brian Kachinsky.

Are you a throw on the ear phones and ride guy, or just listen to whatevers out there?
Well thanks to some little bastard at Undercover, I am currently without an iPod. So I just listen to whatever is out there.

Whats currently on your mp3 player?
Well if I had one it would be. . . Pantera, Superjoint Ritual, DamagePlan, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Dave Matthews, Municipal Waste, Hammered, and CKY.

Tell me more about Mark Hilson:
HAHA. should I go there? All I have to say is -Middle School- Hole In The Pocket – Hands Full Of Books – Much Needed Eraser In His Pocket – And An Innocent Blind Girl Willing To Do Him A Favor. . . There Is An Endless List. . .

Tyler Trepanier?
The Guy Is Nuts ! Flairs, Spine Whips. . . More Tattoos than necessary = Badass. . . Plain and Simple

Whats your worst riding moment?
Threeing the box at Area 51 Backwards and washing my front wheel out. I didn’t remember my name for 3 days.

Ever broken any bones while riding?
I think I might have. . . But I don’t care for the doctor

Whats your bike setup consist of?
Volume Heaton. Profile Mini Hubs. Fly Cranks. No Brakes. Fit stem+Sprocket. Macneil seat+post. Shadow Bars+Grips. Colony Ends. Demolition Pedals. Shadow Chain. Sunday Fork. Shadow Pegs. And all the Ti Fixin’sMost favorite part? I love Shadow Anything. The 13b’s are the best bars made.

Most favorite bmx company?
Dead End Army ! ! !

Favorite Bmx video?
Chill Bro was excellent. But my all time favorite would have to be Road Fools 2.

Any plans in the future for biking? Any trips, contests, or anything bmx related?
Whatever Comes up Comes up. i’m generally up for anything. Brian Hinckley = Filming Extrordinare, is currently working on the Dead End Army DVD. I’ve been working on my part with him as of lately.

If you cant be found on your bike you can be found…?
Working, Spending Time With My Lovely Lady, Or Upside Down Over a Silver Cylinder Type Contraption At Your Local Booze Party.

Whats your life like outside bmx?
Basically work. I would really like to weld frames/forks/bars for a company one day. Hopefully Brian at Dead End Army and I can eventually get something going as far as that goes.

College?
1 Semester. HaHa. I decided it was too expensive so I went with the apprenticeship.

Any hobbies other than bmx?
I guess you could say welding, working out, boozin’, and Fishing.

Favorite drink?
Coors or Budweiser

Your ruben rides are sick, what made you go to Undercover, look at the wall and say, “Im going to ruben that 16 foot wall”?
I can’t really come up with an answer for this one. HaHa. I learned them on a wedge to wall and I wondered if I could just throw myself off of the quarter next to it and do the same thing.

900’s? yay or nay?
Yay.

Did you ever land it at the Bmx Lover competition?
No I did’nt sadly. Since the day I haven’t either. But thanks for the reminder. I’ll put it on this week’s to-do list.

Mike Jones?
Who?

David Blaine?
Pussy.

Is 2 Girls one Cup currently on your computer history?
Of course.

Any shout outs, or thank you’s youd like to add?
Definately! Brian Hinckley @ Dead End for all the opportunity and support. Mark Hilson for stickin’ with the scene for so long. My Parents for dealing with my shit. Brandon and Brian K. for all the influence. My Wonderful Girlfriend Katie for putting up with my shit as well. Everyone else who I have ever rode with or talked to, you guys all have an impact. Last but not least Alex for this opportunity. Thanks Man.

hope to see more of Dusty in the future

About: Super BMX DVD

January 15, 2008

As some of you already saw the post before Alex’s awesome news WOO ALEX!, I posted up a trailer for the Super BMX DVD.. I got a little more information about it and maybe it will be your next DVD buy. I should be getting a copy of it and I will do a review to post up after I get that.

Name of DVD?
SuperBmx presents… ‘Live For Today’ a BMX Road Trip Video

How did the name come about?
Oh Man! Settling on the name was really difficult. Originally it was to be called “SuperVision” in the late 90’s but that never happened. A bunch of other names floated around in my head for awhile too, “Whammo” was one and then it was pretty much was gonna be called “Fuel to Burn…Roads to Drive” after a lyric in a Neil Young song and since its somewhat of a road trip video. But then I realized it should be shorter and simpler and it became a toss up between that and “Live For Today” a song by an old hippy band called ‘The Grassroots’. I used a cover version of that song by ‘Lords of the New Church’ for the ‘Keyko Trails’ (our crew’s trails). Basically the very last part I edited was the title scene and I just went with ‘Live For Today’ at the last minute. It’s funny because in the video promo, in the bonus section it still has the Fuel to Burn title.

How long has this video been in the works?
I started the SuperBmx video project around ’97 or 98′. Base Brooklyn’s ‘The Shady Bunch’ had dropped about a year or so before and Glenn Milligan was gonna help me edit this project. I only had a low end Sony Hi-8 camera and everything was progressing so fast then by the time I got enough footy together the older stuff was too dated, and then all videos that were being released were pretty much filmed strictly with 3 chip cameras. So it was put on hold till I could get a real camera.

Who filmed and edited it?
I filmed and edited it, it was my first video editing project so it was a huge learning experience, I pretty much learned as I went along so I think the parts I edited last came out a little better than the others. It gets to the point where you can look at something and keep tweaking it over and over forever but at some point you gotta chill and realize that if you keep doing that it’ll never be done so you just gotta leave it alone and live with it, thats a hard part too, but overall I’m 100% satisfied with it. Other people who filmed were James Reres, Paul Cvikevich, Brian Kaminsky, Steve-O Ciron, Chris Zeppieri, Grady Corbitt, Brian Russell, Paul Eibeler, Craig “ManBoy” Passero, Tom Passero, Alex Samide, Jake Ehrinberg, Dan McAllister, and Joe Trimarchi.

What kind of cameras and editing equipment was used?
A Sony TRV-950 is my only camera, story behind that is funny, my ex-girlfriend worked for an Advertising agency, it was their camera but she could bring it home if she wanted to so I got to use it on the weekends. Long story short, she got laid off from the company while I had the camera and it never made it back to them, then I got laid off from the relationship and it never made it back to her. She asked for it back once but I think she knew I needed it more than her and she just let it go as a parting gift which was cool. For editing I used a pirated copy of Final Cut Pro 5, on a Apple G4 eMac, really. I only use the best!

Is there full parts? Who all has some?
All the parts are of places, I think it kept the Road Trip vibe going through out. It was also an easier way to feature the 67 or so different riders that have clips in the video without breaking them into their own sections.
Parts are:
1. Intro
2. Austin Texas part one
3. On the Road (mixed places section) part one
4. Long Island
5. Crash Section
6. Hooligan Trails (R.I.P.)
7. Austin Texas part two
8. On the Road part two
9. Keyko Trails
10. Ender mixed section of antics and some riding over Karaoke
11. Slide Show of over 500 photos
12. Credits

It says there’s some “pros” in this video, who would those guys be?
Guys that definately would be considered pros would be guys like Chase Hawk, Brian Foster, Jimmy Levan, Chris Hallman, Derrick Girard, Brian Yeagle, Joe Simon and a ton of other guys I’d considered pro

There’s a whole bunch of unknown guys, who are some of those guys?
A few of the guys coming up that are killing it and are really cool are Pauly ‘the Pirate’ Cvikevich, Craig ‘Manboy’ Passaro, and Bobby Delaat. Also Chris Zeppieri and Marvin Morales are coming up doing their thing in the streets.
There’s a ton of other people in too, they’re all listed on the website. And there’s a lot older guys in it too, who party way too much but still manage to ride somehow too, like “The Hooligan BoozeHounds”. We’re all about 30 years old now and the older you get the harder it gets to ride off those hangovers after a good Friday night!

Did you pick who would be in the video or is it more a crew of guys who put there stuff together?
Pretty much everyone in the video are people I’m friends with and happened to be around when I was filming, nothing was planned out too much. And then there’s also the crew that rides the Keyko Trails, all the Hooligans, and all the Long Island kids.

What kind of stuff can people expect to see in it?
Pretty much an even mix of Trails and Street filmed throughout the country. A ton of antics and comedy mixed in too, with a bit of partying and boozing too, Hell there’s even Inter-Racial Bum Intimacy in there as well.

It says there’s like 2 tailwhips and two barspins in the whole thing, how did you manage this and why?
The people I ride with and filmed don’t really do them I guess. I put that fact out there just so people would know ahead of time what they were getting. If you’re looking to see a ton of barspins and tailwhips you probably won’t have a hard time finding a video full of them these day. I’m not hating on that type of video at all, the Animal videos are amazing and I love to watch that type of video, they’re some of my favorites. I just wanted to go do something different. I like a variety of different things, I just wanted to balance things out a bit and focus more on guys who aren’t the best at doing the latest tech stuff but are pretty damn good at what they do and who are the best at having a good time on and off their bikes.

Is there any special features or anything with it?
Bonus sections include:
The Video Promo
The SuperVision Promo from ’98 edited by Glenn Milligan
My (Superfly) part in my friend tom Bivona’s video “DV3”
My 3 parts from Base Brooklyn’s videos “The Shady Bunch”, “Off The Hook”, & “Neighborhood Superheroes”

Brad Simms Interview

January 7, 2008

Name:
Brad Simms aka b-simms

Location:
from Maryland, but i am a nomad at the moment

Sponsors:
hoffman/target/micreation/ snafu

It seems like you have been traveling a lot lately, where all did you get to go in 2007?
Singapore, South Africa, Canada, Germany, Mexico, China, Australia and Dubai

So your “living the nomadic life”, does that mean you have plenty of traveling planned for 2008, where all do you know your going?
yes, 08 is going to be crazy, in the summer i am planning to go to europe and tour around for 3 months

Where are some places you haven’t had a chance to go to yet that you really want to go to?
I really want to go to Egypt, Sri Lanka, India and Japan. the first 3 countries would be really hard to get to not knowing if any bmx exist there, But I’m sure it does because it’s everywhere

What are 5 things you must have with you when traveling?
digi cam, laptop, bike, ipod, condoms, clothes

Do you have any new signature parts or items coming out anytime soon?
Not that I know of?

Any new sponsors or sponsor changes you can share with us for the new year?
Nope, but if so I’ll let you know

You got a new web edit in the works for Micreation, how long have you been working on that, and when do you expect it to be all over the internet?
I was actually saving most of the stuff for something else, but at the last minute I decided to use it for my edit. So for about a month and a half I’ve been filming stuff off and on it should be on the web in a few weeks………look out

Do you have any new video parts or anything else coming out besides the Micreation edit?
top secret!

Your an all around rider for sure, what do you like better, a big blasted air on a super smooth quarter or a big 180 over somethin on street?
Doesn’t matter really. Street is my favorite, but I do love pedaling fast at a big quarter and seeing if I can touch the moon.

What is something nobody really knows about you that nobody would expect?
If I told you then everyone would know. haha

What is one thing you have had the most trouble with when it comes to riding?
Trusting myself to barspin something big

Is it weird to be somewhere you have never been and have people come up and talk to you because they recognize you?
Sometimes it is and sometimes it’s not. Some kids are really cool and some people creep you out

In your recent Ride BMX interview you mentioned how you got into riding from your Uncle, what do you think you would be doing if that never happend?
My uncle did. if I wasn’t riding I am pretty sure I’d be playing football, football was my life until I found out how about a bike

Who are some of the riders you looked up to when you were growing up? Has that changed at all currently?
Matt hoffman, and not even because I ride for Hoffman, but because he does so much for the sport and he’s an amazing person/rider. Joe Rich, Ruben Alcantara and Garrett Burns. those dudes have been everywhere that I want to go besides being amazing riders

Do you have a group of friends you normally ride with or is it hard being so busy?
I’ve been hanging out in cali for the winter so I don’t get to ride with a bunch of people. lately I’ve just been riding with Aaron Bostrom, Dave Jacobs and Jeff Z.

Any riders that are unknown now that you think will be getting coverage soon or deserve it?
That Tyler Morrow dude from Greenville, NC

If you could only do one trick or ride one type of obstacle for a day, what would it be and why?
I don’t know, I could bunnyhop over stuff all day long and that would be fine

You got a few tattoos, did you do it just because they looked cool or do they have more of a meaning to you?
sounds dumb, but I was bored. haha. I’ll probably hate all of them in 5 years.

Your pretty beefy (no homo?) do you work out a lot? any advice for the dudes looking to get a little bigger?
Sometimes. not really because if you do too much of it your upper body will get stiff. my only advice is to do it in moderation and don’t go over board with it

When your not riding what kind of stuff are you into doing?
listening to music, internet, go out from time to time and hang out with friends. practice chinese (mandarin)

What kind of music are you into? Any unknown artists you think people should check out?
Not really. rap, rock, r&b whatever sounds good

What is the last movie you watched?
American Gangster and I Am Legend

Outside of riding stuff, who or what influences your life the most?
anyone positive or any rider that is pushing the sport has a big influence on me. anyone who supports me influences me. family and friends are a definite.

5 years ago did you ever expect to be in the position you are in right now?
hell no! not even a year ago did I know I was going to travel the world like I did in 07

What are some things you would like to accomplish in the next 5 years?
continue to stay healthy push myself to the limit and see more of the world.

What is one thing you currently don’t own that you wish you did?
A house, but I probably would never be in it

5 favorite websites?
hiphopgame.com
youtube.com
google.com
bankofamerica.com
myspace.com

I don’t know if your a big trend follower, but what trend do you think needs to go for ’08 and do you see any new ones coming on soon?
I’m defnitely not a trend follower, I don’t see any new ones coming, but people cutting their seat tubes off and zip tying it to the frame has got to go.

What is one thing you feel everyone should experience in their life at some point?
Traveling. you’ll learn more about yourself and life then any class/teacher/professor will teach you

What do you think needs to be changed in BMX?
It’s cool where it’s at we just need way more kids to start riding so all the new companies can survive because it’s tough out here

What kind of advice do you have for newer riders just getting into things?
Have fun and learn at your own pace

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
hoffman bikes/target/ micreation/ snafu/ all of my friends and family you know who you are. much love in that area. bmxunion for the interview, peace!

Dirt Ron Interview

December 30, 2007

This interview would have been up a while ago… However with some confusion it finally got figured out! Here is a long awaited interview…

Name:
Ron “sometimes dirt”

Location:
San Diego County

Sponsors:
Give D Clothing, Homies, change droppers.

Ron isn’t a typical name, how did that come about?
Well I’m named after my great grandfather who died in world war II in the Guadal Canal. It’s Ron on the birth certificate and not Ronald so I guess that’s kinda different.

I hear your a pretty artistic dude, can you give us an abstract view on what Give D is?
Give D is like the dirty feather that everyone steps on until one day someone picks it up and realizes how beautiful it is.. but actually Give D is just the dirty feather that no one likes. To straightforward?

Your into drawing some pretty crazy stuff, where do you come up with that stuff?
I’ve been drawing since I was a kid and I would always just draw things that would make me laugh. I usually don’t think about what I’m going to draw and something pretty wierd comes out of it. Some times controversial. If you come to my house you can look into my drawings and I gaurentee you’ll laugh atleast once.

What influences your art?
Sometimes my friends, wandering thoughts, mostly my childlike immagination though.

How long have you been riding?
Since I was 12 and I’m 22 now so about 10years. My knees are 40yrs old.

What was your first bmx bike?
Oooh. A chrome gt/robinson. I miss shining the chrome.

What kind of stuff do you like to ride the most?
Cement parks, tight tranny, any weird tranny. I’ll ride whatever. Especially tranny.

What influences your riding the most?
I started skating around the same time I started riding bikes so that has a big influence on me. Whatevers trendy and unoriginal usually hit’s me pretty hard too. (sarcasm)

According to Alex your pants are pretty…snug. What kind of jeans do you prefer and why so tight?
They don’t seem that tight to me but I usually wear some krews or these cheaper hot topic pants that don’t rip as easy. I just like the way they look and they’re pretty comfy.
Snazzy.

Spinning sounds to be your thing, why are you so into them, and how far have you gotten?
I don’t know. I guess I just like me a spin. I did a 720 on dennis’s bike once. Usually I just like a good ole’ 540.

5 things you don’t leave your house without:
1. Bottle opener
2. Shuffle
3. Yes “greatest hits” CD
4. Slip ons
5. Maybe a jacket

5 things all people should experience before they die:
1. Travel
2. Some lovin’
3. More Travel
4. Party
5. A long train ride

What is the funniest moment in riding you have had?
One time in oceanside most of the D krew and I were riding by the pier and this guy was talking S*$# on our SNUG pants. I had a brew earlier in the day so I was feeling frisky. I felt that he had no reason to judge me and my friends. I was aggrivated so I kept questioning the guy and aggrivating him. At some point I was on my knees because the guys girlfriend told me to suck her c#*%. The guy punched me in the side of the head. By the time my head sprung up the guy was falling back because he had felt the rath of kyles Lightning bolt fist. The guy called his friends who would apparently be kicking our asses. His friends were a bunch of pot heads sitting in the bleachers right above where we were laughing at there friend who kyle had just dealt with. We rode for a little bit longer then left. There was a lot of testosterone in the air.

Where are some of the places you have traveled?
Hawaii (birthplace), Colorado, TJ, All those desert states. I haven’t gone to that many places.

Out of those where do you recommend people should go?
San Fransisco is awesome. They have a lot of cool stores to window shop at, beautiful scenery, and lots of good riding spots. Hawaii is nice to because the second you get on the island you loose any kind of stress. At least I do.

What are some of your favorite movies? (riding and non riding)
Nowhere fast, Label Live, Forrest Gump, Amelie, Indiana Jones trilogy, lots and lots more.

Outside of riding do you go to school or work at all?
I went to community college for a few semesters but it became costly and I lost intrest. I like to read books on my own and learn through the experience of life. I’ve learned a lot that way. If I am ever able to afford it I wouldn’t mind going back to school just cause. Also I’m a bmx and skatecamp instructor at the clairemont YMCA. I also work in the office.

If you didn’t get into riding, what do you think you would be doing?
I would probably be a fat starving artist who plays video games too much or I probably would have joined the service like the other 90% of my family.

What are some of the things you would like to accomplish in the next 5 years?
I would like to travel more ofcourse, Learn to play the piano on a very primitive level, I’d like to have a van/house, be able to skate the mini ramp at clairemont park, and.. be in a legit art show.

What kind of music are you into?
I like a lot. Classical, Punk, New wave, Experimental, Classic rock, a little hip hop. I didn’t have much exposure to music until I was almost 20 so I have a much greater urge to look for and listen to music constantly.

If you couldnt live where you do now, where would you go and why?
Probablly oregon for all the cement or san fran for all the ladies.

What is one thing you wish would change in BMX?
More kids wanting to have fun and less shit talk. Less clones. Less media tempting me to notice what I don’t want to notice.

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
I’m gonna holla at GIVE D Crew!, Mom and the Pops, My two brothers who kick ass, everyone who ever rode oside park or vista park with me, vista james?, the whole world. Thank you
kurt for letting me type a bunch, thanks alex for staying posi, thank you north county for making me what I am today, the sadipillar for being a great mascot, A most importantly Chicken sandwiches.

Anything I missed you would like to add?
“Failure is the mother of success.”
