When I randomly came accross Dylan’s video on Vital I knew I wanted to know what this kid was all about, So I shot him an interview and here’s what he had to say.

How many years have you been riding?
3 ish. I used to race Mountain bikes and somehow ended up riding 20″s
How in the hell do you air so high, especially over that spine?!
Pedal really really fast. Hope I don’t land flat.
Do you drive yet or what’s your main way of getting around to ride and stuff?
I have a VW GTI turbo. But don’t get my licence for a couple more weeks. I usually get rides with friends or pedal places.
What is your favorite trick to do?
The safe ones. Probably moto whips or 360 nose dives
What is your least favorite, or a trick that you cannot do for the life of you?
Barspins. I always jam my fingers.
It would appear you ride brakeless, do you ever get scared going so fast and high?
I actually get more scared with brakes. I tend to do more big tricks that get me hurt. I like going fast and boosting is really fun.
Who are some of the guys you ride with, do you think they influence your riding at all?
I ride with my friends from school or locals from the skatepark. They don’t really push me I just do what is fun and feels good.
Who are some of the pros you look up to?
Morgan Wade, Mike Clark, Jamie Bestwick, Dennis Enarson
Where do you usually ride?
Etnies Skatepark. The most crowded place ever. I don’t really get a chance to ride much other than etnies. I ride about 2 times or 3 times a week.
Do you ride contests? Do you have any plans of entering any for ’08?
I ride contest that are close. It would be nice to travel around.
What are some things you would like to do this year, or in the next few years you haven’t had a chance to do yet?
I want to go to the East coast and ride over there and go up North and ride NW trails.
Outside of riding what kinds of things are you into?
Cars, Snowboarding, Bodyboarding, Just chillin
What kind of music do you listen to?
Mostly Rap and Reggae. I have some other random stuff too.
Favorite movies?
Probably SuperBad. Really funny.
If you won the lottery, (which I think you can’t even legally do) what would you do with the money?
Buy a lot of redbull.
If you could go on a road trip anywhere, where would you go and who would you bring?
I would go to Europe and probably my friends that I hang out with a lot.
What are some companies you really support?
I have alot of oddyssey stuff and Fit. Good parts.
What are some of your favorite websites?
Myspace.com I’m on it way to much
If you could only ride one thing (ramp, street spot, etc.) for a day, what would it be and why?
Trails. I love flowing
If you were to go pro before you graduated from high school, would you try and finish or would you pull a Harry Main?
Get out of school. Probably home school or something. Haha
If you could spend the day with anybody, alive or dead, who would it be, what would you do, and why?
The owner of Redbull. Try to convince him to give me free Redbulls. That would save me a lot of money.
BMX is…
For Tuff Guys!
Do you think anything should be changed in BMX, if so, what and why?
The Shit talking. Everyone is just trying to have fun.
Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
Epic Bmx for always hooking it up. Dillon for always driving me places and taking pictures. Nick for riding with me all the time. Bmxunion.com for doing an interview of me. Thanks
Anything I forgot you would like to add?
I think you got it all.
This is the video that is number 2 on VitalBMX’s most popular videos.. kid rips!
This would be the DVD he has the part in that his friends put together, good riding!
The Only Bmx Video from Dylan S on Vimeo.
I just got done watching the video, and it was really awesome. When I first started riding, trails were the only thing people rode around here. Now days it seems like only a few people still ride trails, it’s always street and skateparks. To be completely honest, I didn’t realize how many amazing sets of trails there are around the country. This video did an AMAZING job of reminding me of that.
The video is by John “Superfly” Skvarla, if you have been around riding for a while that name probably rings a bell, one of the base brooklyn guys. The video just showcases him and his friends traveling from the east coast all the way to the west coast, basically all over the country. Along with his friends people show up like Chase Hawk, Rob O, Jimmy Levan, Steve Crandall, and a ton of unknown guys who ride amazing.
The riding in the video is awesome. There was litterally four tailwhips that I don’t think any of them were landed, and I only recall like two barspins. So you can expect a lot of flow, style, turndowns, x ups, no foot cans, and a lot of other good tricks over jumps that are small all the way up to some massive dirt jumps that are probably bigger than the jumps at the x games. There is also street in it, not a ton but there is some pretty good clips in that from rails, ledges, gaps, and a few 360s down some solid sized stair sets. You get the picture, It is not your typical video that is coming out these days and it is so nice to see it. Nothing but super good times and super good riding.
Outside of the riding there is a lot of footage from all the different places they traveled. A lot parties were filmed and I am 94% sure that the amount of alcohol consumed in this video out does the movie Beerfest. I think there was a keg getting dragged into some set of trails or apartment in every section of the video haha. Beyond the drinking, there is some clips of them calling into a live Karaoke tv show, where they not only sing some sweet songs, but they manage to pull off calling the hosts of the show fat ass’s and other really funny things. I think that show is in Austin, Texas so maybe if your reading from there you might know what I am talking about. There is a slide show of like 500 pictures from throughout the whole thing, which sounds lame, but was actually really cool, it shows how much fun BMX is, and how much fun people with a common interest can have.
The filming and editing was something I didn’t know what to expect, I read that this was the first video Superfly edited. It was actually pretty solid editing. The music went well with it, the transitions were smooth, titles were cool, and I don’t think there was anything I could say was bad. There was a bunch of people involved in the filming and it was all real smooth and professional looking so it isn’t just some cheap movie that was slapped together over night.
Overall I think that the video is worth checking out for sure. The feel of the video is something I really haven’t got in a long while, it brings me personally back to when I first started when everyone got along and there wasn’t a reason to not want to ride with certain people. They show how much fun BMX is, and what you can make of it. The spots they ride are great, some of the most fun, and best looking trails I have seen in a while. I actually wish I could have been apart of these trips just to ride trails.
This video is one of those videos that if you never rode trails before, you probably wont be super into it at first, but if you have ever had interest in trails, or are apart of a set your self you will love it, or possibly get that itch to try trails out. I think that if everybody had to see this video, there would be more trails popping up again and people really would start going back to the true roots of BMX. No, it isn’t street as fuck, I guess you could say it is Dirty as fuck.
So if you like good times, trails, BMX, superfly, beer, or just want something new to check out that you don’t see in every video that is out lately I think it would be worth checking out. Plus they are donating money to Jimmy Levan and Stephen Murray to help them with their recent medical bills.
You should be able to get it at some mail orders soon in the future, but as of right now if you want a copy you can get it from the SuperBMX website for like $18 that includes shipping. If there are any copies available still, Jimmy Levan personally signed something like 25 copies for a few bucks more. Check it out!

SuperBmx ‘Live For Today’ DVD Promo from Superfly on Vimeo.
The Classic ‘Live For Today’ DVD Promo from Superfly on Vimeo.
As some of you already saw the post before Alex’s awesome news WOO ALEX!, I posted up a trailer for the Super BMX DVD.. I got a little more information about it and maybe it will be your next DVD buy. I should be getting a copy of it and I will do a review to post up after I get that.
Name of DVD?
SuperBmx presents… ‘Live For Today’ a BMX Road Trip Video
How did the name come about?
Oh Man! Settling on the name was really difficult. Originally it was to be called “SuperVision” in the late 90’s but that never happened. A bunch of other names floated around in my head for awhile too, “Whammo” was one and then it was pretty much was gonna be called “Fuel to Burn…Roads to Drive” after a lyric in a Neil Young song and since its somewhat of a road trip video. But then I realized it should be shorter and simpler and it became a toss up between that and “Live For Today” a song by an old hippy band called ‘The Grassroots’. I used a cover version of that song by ‘Lords of the New Church’ for the ‘Keyko Trails’ (our crew’s trails). Basically the very last part I edited was the title scene and I just went with ‘Live For Today’ at the last minute. It’s funny because in the video promo, in the bonus section it still has the Fuel to Burn title.
How long has this video been in the works?
I started the SuperBmx video project around ’97 or 98′. Base Brooklyn’s ‘The Shady Bunch’ had dropped about a year or so before and Glenn Milligan was gonna help me edit this project. I only had a low end Sony Hi-8 camera and everything was progressing so fast then by the time I got enough footy together the older stuff was too dated, and then all videos that were being released were pretty much filmed strictly with 3 chip cameras. So it was put on hold till I could get a real camera.
Who filmed and edited it?
I filmed and edited it, it was my first video editing project so it was a huge learning experience, I pretty much learned as I went along so I think the parts I edited last came out a little better than the others. It gets to the point where you can look at something and keep tweaking it over and over forever but at some point you gotta chill and realize that if you keep doing that it’ll never be done so you just gotta leave it alone and live with it, thats a hard part too, but overall I’m 100% satisfied with it. Other people who filmed were James Reres, Paul Cvikevich, Brian Kaminsky, Steve-O Ciron, Chris Zeppieri, Grady Corbitt, Brian Russell, Paul Eibeler, Craig “ManBoy” Passero, Tom Passero, Alex Samide, Jake Ehrinberg, Dan McAllister, and Joe Trimarchi.
What kind of cameras and editing equipment was used?
A Sony TRV-950 is my only camera, story behind that is funny, my ex-girlfriend worked for an Advertising agency, it was their camera but she could bring it home if she wanted to so I got to use it on the weekends. Long story short, she got laid off from the company while I had the camera and it never made it back to them, then I got laid off from the relationship and it never made it back to her. She asked for it back once but I think she knew I needed it more than her and she just let it go as a parting gift which was cool. For editing I used a pirated copy of Final Cut Pro 5, on a Apple G4 eMac, really. I only use the best!
Is there full parts? Who all has some?
All the parts are of places, I think it kept the Road Trip vibe going through out. It was also an easier way to feature the 67 or so different riders that have clips in the video without breaking them into their own sections.
Parts are:
1. Intro
2. Austin Texas part one
3. On the Road (mixed places section) part one
4. Long Island
5. Crash Section
6. Hooligan Trails (R.I.P.)
7. Austin Texas part two
8. On the Road part two
9. Keyko Trails
10. Ender mixed section of antics and some riding over Karaoke
11. Slide Show of over 500 photos
12. Credits
It says there’s some “pros” in this video, who would those guys be?
Guys that definately would be considered pros would be guys like Chase Hawk, Brian Foster, Jimmy Levan, Chris Hallman, Derrick Girard, Brian Yeagle, Joe Simon and a ton of other guys I’d considered pro
There’s a whole bunch of unknown guys, who are some of those guys?
A few of the guys coming up that are killing it and are really cool are Pauly ‘the Pirate’ Cvikevich, Craig ‘Manboy’ Passaro, and Bobby Delaat. Also Chris Zeppieri and Marvin Morales are coming up doing their thing in the streets.
There’s a ton of other people in too, they’re all listed on the website. And there’s a lot older guys in it too, who party way too much but still manage to ride somehow too, like “The Hooligan BoozeHounds”. We’re all about 30 years old now and the older you get the harder it gets to ride off those hangovers after a good Friday night!
Did you pick who would be in the video or is it more a crew of guys who put there stuff together?
Pretty much everyone in the video are people I’m friends with and happened to be around when I was filming, nothing was planned out too much. And then there’s also the crew that rides the Keyko Trails, all the Hooligans, and all the Long Island kids.
What kind of stuff can people expect to see in it?
Pretty much an even mix of Trails and Street filmed throughout the country. A ton of antics and comedy mixed in too, with a bit of partying and boozing too, Hell there’s even Inter-Racial Bum Intimacy in there as well.
It says there’s like 2 tailwhips and two barspins in the whole thing, how did you manage this and why?
The people I ride with and filmed don’t really do them I guess. I put that fact out there just so people would know ahead of time what they were getting. If you’re looking to see a ton of barspins and tailwhips you probably won’t have a hard time finding a video full of them these day. I’m not hating on that type of video at all, the Animal videos are amazing and I love to watch that type of video, they’re some of my favorites. I just wanted to go do something different. I like a variety of different things, I just wanted to balance things out a bit and focus more on guys who aren’t the best at doing the latest tech stuff but are pretty damn good at what they do and who are the best at having a good time on and off their bikes.
Is there any special features or anything with it?
Bonus sections include:
The Video Promo
The SuperVision Promo from ’98 edited by Glenn Milligan
My (Superfly) part in my friend tom Bivona’s video “DV3”
My 3 parts from Base Brooklyn’s videos “The Shady Bunch”, “Off The Hook”, & “Neighborhood Superheroes”

It seems like you have been traveling a lot lately, where all did you get to go in 2007?
Singapore, South Africa, Canada, Germany, Mexico, China, Australia and Dubai
So your “living the nomadic life”, does that mean you have plenty of traveling planned for 2008, where all do you know your going?
yes, 08 is going to be crazy, in the summer i am planning to go to europe and tour around for 3 months
Where are some places you haven’t had a chance to go to yet that you really want to go to?
I really want to go to Egypt, Sri Lanka, India and Japan. the first 3 countries would be really hard to get to not knowing if any bmx exist there, But I’m sure it does because it’s everywhere
Do you have any new signature parts or items coming out anytime soon?
Not that I know of?
Any new sponsors or sponsor changes you can share with us for the new year?
Nope, but if so I’ll let you know
You got a new web edit in the works for Micreation, how long have you been working on that, and when do you expect it to be all over the internet?
I was actually saving most of the stuff for something else, but at the last minute I decided to use it for my edit. So for about a month and a half I’ve been filming stuff off and on it should be on the web in a few weeks………look out
Do you have any new video parts or anything else coming out besides the Micreation edit?
top secret!
Your an all around rider for sure, what do you like better, a big blasted air on a super smooth quarter or a big 180 over somethin on street?
Doesn’t matter really. Street is my favorite, but I do love pedaling fast at a big quarter and seeing if I can touch the moon.
What is something nobody really knows about you that nobody would expect?
If I told you then everyone would know. haha
What is one thing you have had the most trouble with when it comes to riding?
Trusting myself to barspin something big
Is it weird to be somewhere you have never been and have people come up and talk to you because they recognize you?
Sometimes it is and sometimes it’s not. Some kids are really cool and some people creep you out
Who are some of the riders you looked up to when you were growing up? Has that changed at all currently?
Matt hoffman, and not even because I ride for Hoffman, but because he does so much for the sport and he’s an amazing person/rider. Joe Rich, Ruben Alcantara and Garrett Burns. those dudes have been everywhere that I want to go besides being amazing riders
Do you have a group of friends you normally ride with or is it hard being so busy?
I’ve been hanging out in cali for the winter so I don’t get to ride with a bunch of people. lately I’ve just been riding with Aaron Bostrom, Dave Jacobs and Jeff Z.
Any riders that are unknown now that you think will be getting coverage soon or deserve it?
That Tyler Morrow dude from Greenville, NC
If you could only do one trick or ride one type of obstacle for a day, what would it be and why?
I don’t know, I could bunnyhop over stuff all day long and that would be fine
You got a few tattoos, did you do it just because they looked cool or do they have more of a meaning to you?
sounds dumb, but I was bored. haha. I’ll probably hate all of them in 5 years.
Your pretty beefy (no homo?) do you work out a lot? any advice for the dudes looking to get a little bigger?
Sometimes. not really because if you do too much of it your upper body will get stiff. my only advice is to do it in moderation and don’t go over board with it
When your not riding what kind of stuff are you into doing?
listening to music, internet, go out from time to time and hang out with friends. practice chinese (mandarin)
What kind of music are you into? Any unknown artists you think people should check out?
Not really. rap, rock, r&b whatever sounds good
What is the last movie you watched?
American Gangster and I Am Legend
5 years ago did you ever expect to be in the position you are in right now?
hell no! not even a year ago did I know I was going to travel the world like I did in 07
What are some things you would like to accomplish in the next 5 years?
continue to stay healthy push myself to the limit and see more of the world.
What is one thing you currently don’t own that you wish you did?
A house, but I probably would never be in it
5 favorite websites?
hiphopgame.com
youtube.com
google.com
bankofamerica.com
myspace.com
I don’t know if your a big trend follower, but what trend do you think needs to go for ’08 and do you see any new ones coming on soon?
I’m defnitely not a trend follower, I don’t see any new ones coming, but people cutting their seat tubes off and zip tying it to the frame has got to go.
What is one thing you feel everyone should experience in their life at some point?
Traveling. you’ll learn more about yourself and life then any class/teacher/professor will teach you
What do you think needs to be changed in BMX?
It’s cool where it’s at we just need way more kids to start riding so all the new companies can survive because it’s tough out here
What kind of advice do you have for newer riders just getting into things?
Have fun and learn at your own pace
Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
hoffman bikes/target/ micreation/ snafu/ all of my friends and family you know who you are. much love in that area. bmxunion for the interview, peace!
Anything I might have missed you would like to add?
nope!
Brad gave me the heads up that I could use this, I usually feel bad to post up legit dvd stuff.

None at the moment… (ahem…anybody?)
How long have you been riding for?
About 6-7 years… a while.
So a lot of people saw your video on the come up and remembered you from your video in Aspire. Which one did you win?
I won the first round am class. I’m surprised people remember that. haha
How is the weather down in Indiana? Does it even snow there?
The weather is ok I guess, it gets crazy humid in the summer and real shitty in the winter. It snows for sure, but often times it’s just this really annoying shlushy wet shitty snow.
Your friend Nick told me I was supposed to ask about your nickname “Edwin”.. whats the deal with this and why do you get pissed?
I’m gonna hurt him… No, people see me riding street and for some reason its like a reaction to say, “Edwin.” It doesnt make sense to me. I don’t try to or want to pull style from or ride like anyone but my self so it kinda irritates me sometimes. To hear it from my friends is whatever because i know they’re just trying to piss me off but I hate to hear it from other people. They just get 2 warnings… lol
Your pretty legit on street, do you ever ride anything else?
Haha oh yea. Anything you put in front of me. I like to ride street, trails (brakeless), park, my basement, the sidewalk to the 7/11 for a O.E. 40.
Your hop is pretty high, have you ever measured to see how high you can jump?
Not really. I usually just set my bike next to whatever im jumping onto or over to see where it is compared to my bars…
Who are some of your biggest influences on your riding?
My friends who ride and the people who support me.
Outside of riding, what are some of the things your into?
I love to travel. Friends are a big part of my life so whenever I can, I kick it with them or party or whatever.
Favorite movies, non riding and riding?
Of corse Rad! The Last Dragon. Forrest Gump. Any “growin up in the hood” movies. Summer of fit made me shit myself… umm. Anything interesting.
What are some of your plans for 08′?
Full time school, traveling A LOT more to ride and film. I want to see New York and Germany next (My girl is from there so I have a tour guide and a translator)
Where are some of the best places you have gotten to travel to?
I just got back from the west coast. LA and every city around it was amazing. I had so much fun riding and meeting the locals… you guys are fuckin nuts. haha Joe, Matt, Arnold thanks for showing us around. In videos you never really see anything from Indiana so when I got to ride, for example, UCI I was blown away. Everything from Nowhere Fast was there and I had no clue until I rolled up. It was a great trip and definitely wont be the last.
What do you think needs to be changed in BMX to make it better?
I think a lot of people could quit the “contest” style everyday riding and people could quit trying to one-up other people. I guess if thats how someone has fun riding, then thats whatever, but I just don’t see it as fun.
If you could ride with any pro for a day, in any place, who would it be, where would you go, and why?
I don’t know, theres so many people I’d like to ride with but I really dont have just one or one particular spot. I would ride with anyone at anyspot as long as theres no contest or one-up match going on. haha
5 Favorite websites?

Who are some people you think are going to be, or should getting coverage?
Nick Summerlot… he’s ridiculous in bmx and life.
(Go check his interview after this one Nick Summerlot
Did you go to college? If so what?
I did but took a break for a good job opportunity that turned into Office Space… I’m going back in the Fall though for something.
So where do you work? What do you do?
I work in a operations center for State Farm… in a cubicle.
Who are your biggest influences on your life outside of riding?
My mom.
What are some things you would like to accomplish this year? How about in the next 5 years?
This year I want to ride all the places I’ve only talked about riding and on the way to those, ride some I didn’t know existed. I want to get back into school and get that shit over with. In the next 5 years I want to finish school, still be riding and still be healthy. I want to be on a coast and just kickin it wherever I land.
Do you have any new web edits or video parts coming out soon?
I’m going to make one this week and get it on the web… it will have most of my new stuff and some recent clips. I have a video part comming out in a local high def video from Kyle Mullen. Other than that I’m just doing what i can. If anybody is interested in me, get at me!
Any shout outs or thanks?
I want to thank my girl Eve for helping me clean out a full pipe yesterday and standing in the snow while I rode it. I want to thank my room mates for riding and helping rent stay at $205. I want to thank Luke for helping me edit videos. I want to thank anyone and everyone who has every helped me with anything. Without them I wouldnt be here.
Anything I missed you would like to add?
I don’t like watermelon as much as people think. haha. I do use my left side pegs alot.

Steve is another one of those crazy dudes from Give D, and I honestly wish like a month ago when I sent him these questions(hes been injured and busy give him a break!) that I would have asked more, I find these responses super entertaining and I think he has a lot to say… but for now this is good..
Name:
Steve Kennedy

Give D, Odyssey, Sunday!, and Epic bike shop
What are some nicknames you have?
Smilin Steve, Barspins Steve, Regrets-Man
Why are you always smiling?
When you walk into a room and you are smiling you are a somebody, if not you are a nobody. I lost my virginity to a myspace girl.
What is Give D to you?
A whole lot of kicking ass with the best people I have ever met. No matter what we do together it is guaranteed fun. Roadtrips with Give D are legendary!
What is your best Give D story?
Breaking every single sprinkler off on Ben Snowden’s block with Ron. We were both shit-housed drunk and Ron only had one shoe on (for kicking). My prize was this huge ass plastic main that had wires sticking out of it and everything! When I gave it the business end of my size 9.5 Loteks it fucking exploded and soaked my pants with water, it was amazing. We then found a plastic bag and collected all the snapped off sprinklers and posed and took pictures holding them which I think are on the Give D myspace. The best part was when we were taking the pictures with all the sprinklers out Snowden walked into the room but I don’t think he noticed! Ha ha it was like dad coming home and then not getting in trouble!
If you had a teleport button for a day, where are some of the places you would go?
The Fullerton angle iron ledge with Alex, the owner of D. We can seriously ride it for hours and have the time of our lives. I recently tore my meniscus in my knee so I’ll be out for a total of five months at the least, but luckily I was able to film at the ledge before I got hurt!
Who are some of your favorite people to ride with?
So many rad dudes I love to ride with! I’m going to take the easy way out and just say my roommates and everyone on Give D! Bdubbs at odyssey, Alfredo Mancuso because he is real good and constantly makes me laugh my dick off, Eric Litchtenburger (not even going to try to spell that clusterfuck of a last name right) because he is a fucking street animal, and probobly lots of other people who I’m neglecting to mention and who hate me now.
What are your favorite videos/video parts?
I love all of Seth Kimbrough’s recent parts, that guy has great style and tricks.
Do you listen to an ipod or something similar while you ride?
Sometimes. I try not to if I’m with friends, but when I do it does help to motivate me. I have the new Shuffle which is cheap and has no screen so I’m not afraid to wreck it. Right when the ipod came out I bought some mp3 player that was pretty similar and it put me back like $250. I ended up falling trying a footjam tailwhip of all things and breaking the screen. The best part was it kept playing and I didn’t even notice i broke it until like 30 minutes later when I went to change the song.
What kind of music are you into?
Lately I haven’t been able to ride much due to my knee, so it’s been lots of chill stuff: Iron and Wine, The Album Leaf, The Shins, Pinback, and Of Montreal.
