How To Install a BMX Chain

Want to learn how to install a BMX chain? Brant Moore’s latest tech tip teaches you how to install a BMX chain…

Anyone that has rode BMX for a while knows that it’s almost inevitable that you will at some point need to either fix your chain, or replace a worn out one. Now, you can take your bike to a shop and have a trained mechanic put your chain on your bike, which is never a bad idea. But, there’s a chance that at some point you might need to fix a broken chain mid session and running to a shop isn’t ideal. In this video from Brant Moore, he teaches you how to install a BMX chain on your bike using the Odyssey BMX Key Chain that he installed on his bike. This video is a great example with a lot of advice on how to fit the chain, using a chain breaker and how to break a chain and put it together. This is definitely one of those maintenance things that takes a bit of practice. Starting out it’s hard, but eventually it gets a lot easier as you have fixed or installed a few chains. It’s always rad coming across a video from a rider that doesn’t exactly follow the trends and fads that riding creates. In a world filled with pegs, no brakes and freecoasters… Mista B. is on the polar opposite with brakes, no pegs and a cassette. Hell, there’s even a chainless clip or two. Not only that, but the way he approaches spots is more on a Steven Hamilton style than anything else. This BMX video has a ton of skidding, sliders, bonks, jibs and more that keep things interesting from start to finish. There’s no doubt that this is the definition of freestyle. We’re digging what Mista B. is doing on his bike.

What Comes Next? Chad Kagy Talks About Retiring From BMX

After a long and successful career as a BMX pro, Chad Kagy talks about injuries that forced him into retiring as a pro BMX rider…

Here’s an interesting video that meshes together two people who have been forced to change up their whole lives, but have something similar in common. One focuses on Chad Kagy who has retired as a BMX pro after injuries that have kept him from being able to ride like he used to, and the other looks at a war photographer and reporter, Steve Hebert, that had to step away from the risky world he knows after things took a turn for the worst. In the video, Chad discusses the crash that took him out, along with countless other injuries and surgeries that he had over the years that wore him down to the point that he had to take a step back. Both guys had different backgrounds and lives, but riding bikes is what they have in common. It’s an interesting video that looks at the unknowns that can happen when you take on a risky career that can have some serious highs and lows.

This video doesn’t exactly cover what comes next for both guys career wise, but it’s an interesting perspective. We had the chance to catch up with Chad last summer during the X Games and talked about what it was like not being able to compete in the X Games for the first time in nearly 20 years, and how it’s definitely different, but it has allowed him to spend more time with his family and that’s always a good thing. Chad might not be competing anymore, but it’s safe to say he won’t be done with BMX any time soon.. Take a peek!
