About a year ago I did an On the Horizon with Sputnic. Since then, a lot has changed. The team has been mixed up, the brand is now managed by Boyd Cornell, and there are a bunch of new products. I’ve been really psyched on the way Boyd has been handling things, and figured I’d see if he could fill us in on what’s going on with Sputnic these days. Check out what he had to say…
I don’t know why, but whenever I hear somebody talking about Australia, I usually end up thinking Colony right away. Maybe it’s just because it’s a solid brand from there, or because I really don’t know a whole lot about the place. Regardless, I do know that I’ve been curious about the workings behind the business for a while. I got a chance to shoot Clint Millar some questions about Colony to find out a little bit about what makes the brand tick these days. A few months back I was talking to Mark Noble about what he had going on with Deluxe these days… well, those days. He mentioned that he was having the team get together for a little UK trails tour that they were going to be filming for a DVD. There’s a few reasons I was stoked about that news. The first was that Deluxe was making an all trails edit, and the second was that I’m well aware of how dialed some of the trails are in the U.K.

If you haven’t heard of Devon, there’s a good chance you don’t really ride that much, or you are too busy actually riding. In the last probably two months he has had this explosion of web videos that seemed like he had come out every other day. The talent Devon holds got my attention and I started getting more and more curious what this guy was all about. I figured I’d see if he would be into an interview, and he came through. Matt Markese Rail Ride
I’ve been thinking about doing something like this recently, but never really had the time to figure it all out. Basically, what I want to start doing is featuring some photographers who are just getting into it but already shooting pretty solid photos. Think of it like a Shooter on the Dig site, but with guys who are newer to photography and not as established as the guys that get featured on Dig. This interview is one that I’m especially stoked on. For those of you who aren’t firmiliar with Fred, he’s the all around guy at Dig (website, magazine, photos, etc, etc) and freelances quite a bit as well. In the last year that I’ve been working for Dig, I’ve worked pretty closely with Fred doing the website content and for the products section in the magazine. Over the course of the last few months I’ve been seeing guys like Brian Kachinsky, Corey Martinez, Ty Morrow and Rob Darden rocking some Arnette sunglasses. I’m not sure why, but I’ve been slowly collecting glasses lately. The problem was that I only had one legitimate pair I could wear that didn’t look like I stole it from a kid, and they had been seeing better days. Chris is another one of those names who has been popping up more and more lately in the filming and editing side of BMX these days. Whether it’s for a Vital exclusive, or a Volume web edit, I never have to question if it’s going to be a quality video to check out. Not only that, his brother is Matty and that should create some sort of fear because of what these two combined can create.
