Is it just me, or has BMX been getting quite a bit more exposure lately? Has it been growing? Where has all this money come from? I’ve been having a bunch of things running through my head the last few days (this post is two days in the works) about what feels like quite a bit of growth of BMX lately. I ended up getting a flat the other night… well, I didn’t.. I let some people ride the new whip around the other night and it ended up with a flat and nobody knew who did it. So I decided if I was going to try a new tube I might as well see what all the hype is for these new Fly Bikes Cobra Tubes that came out a little while ago. I decided to film the process of installing it just to see if it was quicker. I made a few cuts to the video just to speed things up but it didn’t take much time at all. Pretty cool concept and I can dig it. Yes, I rock flat head screw drivers too… I’ve been around the block a few times and know what I’m doing.
So, the weekend came and went pretty quick. My 4 day trip to Chicago was filled with tornados, monsoons, BMX, parties, laughs, and in general good times. I really don’t get too overly blown away by contests since it’s a lot of the same tricks and expected runs from the guys, but it’s a real good excuse to go see everyone and just get some chill time from life and do something different. EYE Q frame
Last winter during Frostbike I had come across Erik Engstrom and the EYE BMX booth. The new brand that was being brought in from VSI products (Sinz, THE, Intense, Vigor, etc.). At the time it was just starting off with a few prototypes being displayed. I figured I’d give it a few months and then hit up Erik to see where they have come to since. I highly doubt that you have missed the last two Stevie Churchill edits that have dropped the last few weeks. If you have, well you have missed out on a kid who makes 540s, 3 whips, and truck drivers on street look like they are basic tricks. I’ve been interested in finding out more about Stevie, and when Jeff DuPaul gave me a sneak peek a week ago at his Defgrip edit that dropped a few days ago, I knew I had to get an interview with him. The other day I came home to a box on the step from Sidewall. It slipped my mind that Matt Colisch and Jeremie Infelise were sending over a few new Hell On Earth tee’s. I was kind of wondering if Hell On Earth was done and over with, but it would appear they got things going on again. I’m real psyched on how much work went into the designs.
