Glenn P.P. Milligan Interview!

November 2, 2007

Name:

Glenn Patrick Peter Milligan

Location:

Long Beach CA (snoopville)

Job:

Freelance Video Producer

You do a lot with vitalbmx.com do you actually work for them or are you a freelance filmer/editor?

I work for Vital. The guy who started/created Ridebmx (Brad McDonald) started Vital. When they offered me a position I was psyched to take it. I’m not full time at Vital, because I do freelance for a bunch of other companies.

What kind of camera equipment do you own?

Canon Gl1, Sony VX2100, Panasonic DVX100b, Arri-S, Bolex, and a Canon XH-A1

What are your most cherished pieces?

I used to be real sentimental about cameras, now I just look at them as the tools they are. But I don’t think I’d ever sell the Gl1. I made like 9 videos with that camera, it has too many memories.

Have you been getting into the HD filming stuff nowdays?

Yeah I finally made the jump a few months ago. I also bought a 100 gig fire drive so I can shoot straight to disk. That piece was so worth the investment. As far as HD is concerned, so far a spent a shitload of money on HD stuff to make web videos.

What are some projects you have going on right now?

Vital always has something going on. I fly out in the morning to go film the redbull down and dirty comp in NJ. SO there will be edits for Vital and Redbull. Primo is talking about a full length video, and Nike 6.0 will be putting out tons of stuff this year. I’m also finishing up a wet suit instructional video I’ve been working on.

Who are some of your favorite people to work with?

Nate Moroshan, Enns, Nigel, Edwin, Vinnie, Tom, any of the 909 dudes, Bohan, Dillewaard, Pinter, Biz and Tinez, Nathan, Boy and E-man. I kinda like everyone.

Your job requires a lot of traveling to meet up with people to film, do you do more driving or flying?

More flying these days, the first few years I was doing this it was way more driving, If someone got me a flight I’d kiss the ground they walked on. Now, time is such an issue flying is pretty much the only way to make things efficient. There are a lot of times now I want to drive just so I have some time to chill.

What is the most stressful part of your job?

Deadlines, I try not to miss em, so two or three days before one I tend not to sleep much between work and just having the project on my mind, and then usually because I work for so many people, someone else needs something during someone else’s deadline, so I’ll spend quite a bit of time just juggling stuff. But, the worst is the lack of sleep, nothing sucks more trying to finish something while you feel like you are bleeding out of your eyes.

Do you like filming, or editing more?

It changes from project to project, but over all editing is way more challenging and you can be more creative, so I’d say editing.

What are some videos coming out that you are pumped on?

End search, and I saw some trailer online where there was some grimmey gangster storyline. Those are two videos I’d buy.

Do you find much time to ride?

Normally, no, but I’m mad sore right now because I rode everyday for the past 6 days, so I’m super happy about that. Even if I didn’t have a job in the industry I’d still ride, actually I’d probably ride more. It’s weird cause I know a lot of industry people that if they lost there gig, they wouldn’t even look at a bike again, that’s sad, it’s like they are trapped in something they don’t want to be involved in.

What is the best story you have from a road trip or filming with someone?

Seriously I can’t think of one, every road trip has at least 2, I feel so lucky on every trip I’ve ever been on, there is always at least one moment where I look around and say…WOW, this is my job!

Where are some of your favorite places you have been?

South Africa and Australia, those places are just so different then how we grew up in the US. It’s so cool to see places so different.

I also gotta shout out Vancouver, I’d move there in a heart beat, in general Canada rules!

Where are some places you have yet to go to that you really want to go to?

Japan, New Zealand, and JAPAN!!!

On the long trips, what do you do to pass time?

I’m pretty busy on long trips so there’s not a whole lot of need to pass time. Although I’m not sure what I did before and ipod.

What are some of the artists or songs you are into right now?

Thanks for asking this. I’m gotten internet flack in the past for having shitty taste in music, mostly because of the ride videos I did. Clearing music sucks!

As far as what I’m into, well since tower records went out of business, I stopped buying cds altogether. Now I make mix cds for my car and keep the ipod on random. So right now I was listening to The CURE, Clutch, Kanye, 50, Def leopard, the Bravery, Say anything, with a lil prince.

Who are some people you have had the chance to meet that you think are going to be or deserve to get coverage that don’t?

That is a loaded question. I won’t single anyone out that doesn’t have a chance to answer right back, but I will say there’s a few riders and industry people I feel that way about, and one magazine. I don’t think I’m the ultimate authority on who deserves what, and I’m sure there are some people who think I don’t deserve shit. I’d just have to say anyone who doesn’t appreciate what they got should get it stripped away. And anyone with arrogance, like their shit don’t stink, shouldn’t be involved in bmx, there is no room for egos like that.

You have 24 hours to live, what do you do?

Have sex with a midget then dress up like Batman and kill a few sleazy fucks that need to go. Worst case scenario: I live through my vigilante attack and people believe there Is a real batman, if I do get killed at least it was on my terms trying to do some good.

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?

I thank everybody! So Thank you!!!

JVC Gumy Ear Buds

November 1, 2007

I was thinking about something I use all the time that I could give an honest review on today, and then I thought about my Ipod and how I always have it with me. Then I got thinking about my headphones. I have been rocking these JVC gumy headphones since my Ipod ones that came with it died out on me. I am on my 3rd pair as of this week and I am not really sure why I bought them again.

The good- These headphones are great! I am not going to lie, they are cheap ($10 at best buy), comfortable, good quality comes out of them, and they come in a bunch of really cool colors that stand out. I have been rocking the green ones until I got the blue ones earlier this week. People noticed I changed colors too( I usually have my buds hanging out of my shirt all day if I am not listening to them) so they do stand out a lot. Alfredo better be stoked because it gets a lot of girls attentions too.

The Bad- Theres a reason why I have bought 3 pairs, the cables shit out. On my first pair one headphone wasnt working because the wire got cut a little bit by the bud, and its annoying only being able to hear one 1 side. My second pair, I think from my ipod being dropped pulled the cables from the plug in out a little, so once again one headphone died out on me.

So in reality, if you dont drop your ipod or get the wires cut up, they are pretty solid and pretty cool. Plus for $10 you dont feel so bad replacing them if they break after 2 months, I mean I have seen parts on bikes worth 10 times as much die out faster than that. If I had to rate them out of 10.. I would give them a 7.5/10 just because I wish they didn’t break on me like that.

Interviews to come!

November 1, 2007

I have interviews out to Mike Spinner, Glenn PP Milligan, and Karl Poynter. They should be up as soon as I get them back.. I also think there might be a few other interviews I sent out that I am waiting on, but maybe I am just imagining things?

So check back later today.. at least one of them should be up by then.

Baco Videos

October 31, 2007

I don’t know how many of you have experienced a Baco event, however if you haven’t and get the chance, do it! I have never had as much fun at a contest than I did at the Baco’s I got to attend, however they aren’t allowed in Wisconsin to have Baco anymore (atleast not at Jellystone Skatepark) and I have no idea where they will do it next. But the one in Florida just went down and here are some videos to it!

Al D Interview

October 30, 2007

Name:
Al DiMino

Location:
Pennsylvania

You have been repping MirraCo a lot lately, what do you got going on with them?
Long story short..went to interbike in 06 seen the red blend pro frame ,talked with the Mirraco reps and Bart de Jong from Fatbmx for a bit about the Mirraco products. Afew months passed and I received a call from Mirraco and they said they liked what I do for bmx and were sending me a frame and bars. I recently am riding a 20.25 blue blend.

What have you been up to lately, I noticed you just at a jam the other day?
SICK! BMX massacre contest at h-town was a fun time. Teams, made up of 4 riders competing made it very entertaining. Nothing but goodtimes. My team won the event took home the trophy.

Are you still working full time, or do you have more time to ride now days?
I been working a full time job, the medical coverage is the only plus on that deal but it still doesn’t cover all expenses. I’m trying to knock down some medical bills ya know. As far as riding ,during the week I ride street for a bit usually with a few locals then off to my night job. I ride the whole weekend and hit up as many spots as possible.

I saw you were rocking a full face lately, how come?
After getting my grill smashed on the trails and took a few slams on the head I kinda figured its time to take a break away from the emergency room. I had a couple of concussions so I am just playing it safe.

What are some of the things you got planned over the winter?
To keep on shreddin of course. Gonna plan a road trip for a vacation week and visit a few spots I’ve never rode.

It seems like there has been a few new videos of you up on the internet lately, are you working on any video parts or anything?
I would like to have a solid riding video but I never seem to have a cameraman present when I’m riding. I really need to hook up with someone with a good camera and shoot some footy. Sometimes I get some footage but its not hi def quality and just edit it to share with riders on internet.

Do you have any bmx invasion projects planned?
I have to start promoting the next bmxinvasion bike battle contest #8 in a few more weeks . The location is undecided at this time. Recenty brought back the BMXinvasion t shirts ,the whip design is becoming a favorite on the streets. Just wanna say that BMXinvasion is about promoting fun. I hope to keep it alive as long as I can. Its been nothing but good times for sure.

Rumor has it Spider Man was seen doing flairs on your bike the other day, are you guys friends or what?
I don’t want to disclose the identity of spiderman but lets just say I know him very well and he likes to borrow my ride once in while…. hahah

What are some of the new stuff your working on, I saw a turndown flair recently didn’t I?
yep the flair turn down got that dilaled in , I try to learn a trick then work on adding a combination. I have been also working on some bar spin stuff.

You post up on Bikeguide.org a fair amount, what do you think about forums like those?
Bike guide as well other bmx forums are full of general knowledge, I like reading reviews of new parts looking a bike checks . I also enjoy the feedback haha theres times when you get the haters putting in their 2 cents in but its all good.

Where are some of the places you have gotten to ride this year?
Baltimore dew tour was the best and theres been a bunch of riding spots around the tri state area I’ve been shreddin lately.

Are there any places you haven’t been that you would like to see?
I’d like to visit europe, places like Musso trails in France. I’d like to make a euro tour if I can swing the funds.

What kind of music are you into?
Anything that makes me go crazy, heavy metal is always on my play list.

What are some things you would like to accomplish in 08′? How about in the next 5 years?
I’d like to travel to a few places the midwest scene is bangin. Like to meet up with some riders like Dustin Griess from interbmx, Art D’Ambrosio from lake own camp and of course you and your crew. Who knows what the future will bring but I am thinking about college maybe get a few credits to have in the bank for a future job. I really would like to keep my energy involved somewhere in the bmx industry.

Who are some people you would like to ride with you haven’t had a chance to yet? I’ve been riding woodward about once a month and been sessioning with the big names in bmx so much fun those guys they push each other break balls its sure is good times when they’re around. I walk in and theres Jamie Bestwick pointing his finger at me says this is for you and he pulls a doulblewhip flair haha so good. But one person that comes to mind to ride with is Mat Hoffman

Any thanks or shout outs?
My folks who are always supportive. Team Manager Abe Ford who is one rad dude. Mirraco bikes for the frames , Long distance shout out to Rob Harrison in Germany at Fuse protection WTP head quarters for providing me with the best safety gear. All the bmxinvasion fans, supporters and riding buddies. West coast holla to Ricky ratt and Ryan Barspinner and the list can go on an on.

Any last words or things you would like to add?
If you are involved in BMX and you are not doing everything you can to make people happy about BMX and make them want to be involved in BMX, then you are a detriment to this sport. Invade the scene in your own way and have fun.
