HHX – Garbage Truck

December 2, 2019

It’s always a surprise when you drop a line of text in another language into Google Translate. We did NOT see “мусоровоз” translating to Garbage Truck, but it happened and it left us laughing. The HHX crew had a bunch of random clips that needed a home, so they loaded the garbage truck up with this mix edit for you to enjoy. Although these clips didn’t make the cut for other videos, it’s safe to say combined they make for a real solid BMX video worth taking a peek at. Hit play and take it all in!

Max Gaertig – 17 Years On Wethepeople

December 2, 2019

When you look at BMX and their teams, there can be a lot of rotation as far as riders joining and leaving teams. Whether the rider gets a better offer and makes a switch, they just fade out with adult life responsibilities, get injured and never really make a comeback, or they just turn out to be a dick and nobody wanted them on the team anymore, there are a lot of reasons for why a rider will ultimately end up not being sponsored by a brand. However, every now and then there are some outliers. Riders that are amazing on a bike and off, continue to progress and produce, and continue to be an asset worth supporting for years and years. That list of riders is fairly short considering the average career of a professional athlete on any level (except for maybe field goal kickers in the NFL and professional bowlers) can be pretty short lived. Max Gaertig is one of those riders that has stood the test of time! Although he’s not popping up all too often these days, he’s still out there crushing it on his bike and continues to be a valuable member of the Wethepeople team after 17 YEARS of riding for the brand. We can’t even begin count the number of Pro riders that have come and gone in that time frame. Hell, half of you checking this out have probably lived in a world where Max has rode for Wethepeople longer than you have existed, haha!
(Man, we are getting old)
Either way, Max is going on 17 years strong and Wethepeople whipped up this short but sweet video showing their gratitude for him. It also sounds like we can expect to see something cool coming in the next few months. We’re not sure if it’s a new signature product or just a fresh edit, but either way we’ll be stoked to see it. Congratulations, Max! Hell of a milestone. Keep it going!

“His video parts have pretty much defined forward-thinking street riding for generations, he set benchmarks way back and although at the time he may never have given it much thought he was always pushing progression at an astonishing level. Our gratitude for Max goes beyond anything and we are thankful for 17 years of Mad Max… Look out for something super cool early 2020 with Max…” – Wethepeople

Check out a bunch of photos and a few more words about Max over on the Wethepeople website!

“Piece By Piece” – Full Video

December 1, 2019

Where are my Midschool riders at!? Chris Doyle uploaded this gem from the early 2000’s for you to enjoy! The “Piece By Piece” video was produced by Jay Loychik and features a handful of familiar faces like Chris Doyle, Anthony Napolitan, Steve Cuesta and more getting down on some legendary midwest parks, trails, street spots and more. This kicks a ton of ass and definitely shows what this era of riding was all about! No shortage of Brakes, Primo Hemorrhoid seats, technical ramp riding (so many fufanu combos) and more in this BMX video. Hit play!

“Piece by piece is a short underground video that highlights a group of RIPPERS from the Youngstown, OH area. Filmed & edited by Jay Loychik.” – Chris Doyle

Brian Tunney – November 2019 Clips

December 1, 2019

Maybe it’s the whole getting older thing, but time seriously flies by these days. November has already burned by us and we’re into December. With a new month comes a new edit from Brian Tunney to enjoy! Here’s a mix of clips Brian whipped up from his sessions that he got in. Like pretty much all of us, he got hooked on one particular trick and tried to see how many ways he could mix it into things and really dial it in. Needless to say, this is a real solid watch if you’re looking for some flatland goodness. Check it out!

“Full disclosure here: The first beach clip (lawnmower to undertaker) was filmed in late October after I finished the October video. Following that day, we went to Thailand for 10 days, so I didn’t start riding again until Nov. 10. But in the time off the bike, I became weirdly obsessed with undertakers, as evidenced by this video. So I decided to basically devote a month to the long lost art of the classic 80’s undertaker, and this is the result.

A bit of background here: When undertakers first arrived on the scene in BMX, I was 12-13 and not very big. Not that I’ve grown into a huge adult or anything, but undertakers on a classic ’80s BMX bike for a 12-year-old were next to impossible. I just couldn’t reach the bars during the underneath transition portion. So I basically just moved on to things I could do and forgot about undertakers. A few years ago, I started messing with them again but always got to a weird point where they became tougher with each attempt to do them. So again, I had to forget about them for a while and start anew.

Now, finally, at age 45, over 30 years after the undertaker debuted on the BMX scene, I’m getting a little more grasp on them. That grasp will assuredly go away when I least expect it, but this video is slight proof that for one month in 2019, I could kinda do them. Sorry for what comes across to me as a cocky intro, and thanks as always to Mark Kozelek for lighting the way.” – Brian Tunney
