S&M X Pro-Tec – Full Cut Certified Helmet

December 16, 2017

S&M and Pro-Tec have teamed up for a collaboration Full Cut Certified Helmet…

S&M Bikes Pro-Tec Full Cut Certified BMX Helmet

If you’re due or a new BMX Helmet, (which we HIGHLY recommend), the crew at S&M Bikes have teamed up with Pro-Tec for a Full Cut Certified helmet with some big S&M logos on the sides! This helmet starts out with a High-Impact ABS or HDPE shell (different colors require different makeup of the shell) with 11 open vents for plenty of airflow. Inside you can find an EPS liner and compression molded pads. This helmet has the ASTM 1492/1447, CPSC 1203, AS/NZS 2063:2008, CE 1078 certifications so you know it not only looks badass, but it’s safe, too.

You can pick up the S&M X Pro-Tec Full Cut Certified helmet in XS, Small, Medium, Large and XL sizes, colors of Black or White and a price tag of $69.99. It’s a little spendy, but you CANNOT go wrong with spending a little extra to protect your noggin. These helmets are available through BMX shops and mail-orders that carry S&M Bikes worldwide now.

“Stand out from the crowd with this retro masterpiece. Raised by the godfathers of skateboarding the Full Cut is back in demand, better than ever. High-Impact ABS or High-density polyethylene shell (depending on color) lined with EPS and outfitted with compression molded pads. Style and protection that can’t be duplicated.” – S&M Bikes

If you are on a tighter budget, check out a bunch of other options for the helmet without the rad S&M logos here — Pro-Tec Full Cut Certified helmets

Shadow Conspiracy – Featherweight In-Mold Helmet

July 20, 2017

Let’s take a closer look at the new Featherweight In-Mold Helmet from The Shadow Conspiracy…

Whether you prefer to wear a helmet or not, you undoubtedly know that having one on when you ride is a good idea. Wearing helmets while riding BMX have always been one of those weird “it’s your choice” things that riders go back and forth with. Whether you want to have something on all the time just incase, or for the times you’re “forced” to wear one during a session at a skatepark, it’s a good idea to have one.

Riders who aren’t big fans of wearing helmets always have reasons for not wearing one. We’ve heard that they don’t look cool, they get too hot, they are uncomfortable and that they’re too heavy in the past. All things we have battled with ourselves over the years, so it isn’t something we don’t understand. But we also know the importance of helmets and with so many Pro riders going down with head injuries the past few years, it’s becoming more and more important that riders are keeping their heads safe. That’s why The Shadow Conspiracy decided to go to the drawing board and take all those complaints and create a helmet that riders would enjoy wearing, or at the very least be able to bear it for the sessions they have to wear one.

The Shadow Conspiracy have just released their new Featheweight In-Mold Helmet that is cool looking, lightweight, comfortable and keeps you cool during a heated session, and it didn’t cut any corners on safety — This helmet meets CPSC and EN 1078 standards.

The Shadow Conspiracy Featherweight In-Mold Helmet BMX

The Featherweight In-Mold helmet starts out with a thinner plastic outer shell with In-Mold technology that uses a custom shape and fit with high density EPS foam that is apart of that outer shell completely, not just a few patches of velcro or glue holding it together so it stays in place. This allows the helmet to have a low profile fit that has that classic look (very similar to the Bucky Lasek Pro-Tec helmet in our opinion) with 10 vented slots to ensure plenty of airflow. If you look closely, those vented holes are the shape of coffins to go along with the Shadow Conspiracy look, which was a nice touch. The helmet is all held in place with a fully adjustable strap that will allow a perfect fit. If you struggle to find a perfect fit, the helmet also comes with two sets of padding to get that custom fit that’s just right for you.

With everything we just talked about above, the helmet’s overall weight was kept down to 273 grams or 9.63 ounces for their Large / XL size. That’s just over a half a pound in weight, which is not a lot; especially when it comes to helmets. That’s nearly half the weight of a ProTec Classic helmet for a comparison. We were blown away when we picked this helmet up for the first time back at Frostbike 2017 because of the surprising weight.

The Shadow Conspiracy Featherweight In-Mold Helmet comes in two sizes; Small / Medium (50-56 cm), Large / Extra Large (58-61cm), colors of matte black and white and a price tag of $69.99 through BMX shops and mail-orders that carry The Shadow Conspiracy worldwide or direct from The Shadow Conspiracy Webstore now!

It’s been really good seeing BMX Helmets getting a better reputation lately. We’re seeing more pros running them after seeing enough people catch head injuries and more kids are stoked on them because of it. It looks like there’s another reason to be stoked on BMX helmets… Odyssey and Kali Protectives have teamed up for the new Viva helmet that is not only high quality when it comes to safety, but it looks pretty rad, too! This helmet is hitting BMX shops and mail-orders that carry Odyssey and / or Kali Protectives worldwide now. The helmet is utilizes Kali’s Composite Fusion Three system that uses EPS foam and connects it directly to the ABS shell with 10 vents for plenty of air flow, anti-microbial pads, retention systemfit pads, locking buckle and adjustment sliders.

The Odyssey X Kali Protectives VIVA helmet is available in black only with sizes of Small (48-54 CM),
Medium (54-58 CM) and Large (58-61 CM) with a price tag of $54.99.

Get the full scoop direct from Odyssey below on how this helmet came about!!

“Better parts can make your riding more enjoyable and allow you to ride longer, and the same thing can be said for the equipment that’s not directly bolted to your bike. After 30 years in BMX we’ve seen what can happen when people aren’t wearing safety gear, and because of this we’re always thinking of new ways to reduce the possible chance of injuries. Developing our own helmet from scratch seemed like a massive undertaking for us as a component driven company, so we began talking directly with helmet manufacturers. Our experience has shown us that most of the stock helmets out there are very basic and traditional. As our research continued we quickly discovered Kali Protectives, a brand that has a passion for technical advancement that’s a lot like our own. Kali’s R&D team are constantly looking at what they can do to make helmets safer, thinner and more comfortable. The more we learned, the more we liked, so went to talk to them and soon found that we were both on a similar wavelength when it comes to focusing on the helmet’s safety, fit and durability. As a result of this meeting, we are very pleased to offer Kali’s proven and cutting edge technology that is found in our VIVA collaboration helmet.

THE TECH:
Kali’s patented Composite Fusion Three technology molds the shock-absorbing foam layer directly into the hard outer shell. This means that the shell and the foam work together as a uniform composite structure rather than as two separate elements. This makes for a more efficient construction, so the bulkiness of the helmet can be reduced, while the amount of protection offered by the design increases.
The result of this technology is that Kali can make helmets that offer more protection, while also being both smaller and more comfortable. By partnering with Kali we are able to bring these technological advances to BMXers at a similar price to ordinary low-tech helmets. We’re confident that you’ll be as impressed with the Viva as we were.

Insight: Fuse Protection – Helmet, Shin and Knee Pads

July 8, 2015

With BMX comes a lot of crashing. There’s no way around it, no matter how good you are… You’re going to take some spills and slams. That’s just part of how it goes. With that being said, it’s never a bad idea to have some protection to keep you from getting cut up, broken and battered from those crashes, slipped pedals or freak instances where you get caught up and going down hard. We recently got our hands on the Alpha Whip / Shin pads, Delta knee pads and Icon helmet from Fuse Protection and figured it would be a good idea to give you guys a closer look at some of the features that make these pads so beneficial. If you’re looking for some new pads or considering that it might be time to start covering up a bit, take a look!

Insight: Kali Protectives – Viva Helmet

June 16, 2015

kali-protectives-viva-helmet-1-black

With how gnarly BMX is getting these days, it’s safe to say that nobody can really argue that having a little extra protection is never a bad thing. A lot of pros have started rocking helmets more frequently and it’s pretty obvious to see why with some real heavy injuries happening to guys like Brett Banasiewicz to really open everyones eyes on just what can happen. Our friends over at Kali Protectives hit us up recently to see if we wanted to check out one of their BMX specific helmets they offer. We figured it would be rad to give you guys a closer look at their Viva helmet since Nick Bruce had a lot of input on it. Let’s get into this!
