3D Printed BMX Sprocket?

August 7, 2017

When 3D Printing started popping up, the idea of creating BMX parts from 3D Printing has always been something people have talked about doing. George French has played around with it for a while now and has done a number of things as prototypes to test out ideas, and we know Harry at Wethepeople and Eclat also does rough prototype samples through 3D printing. Even though it’s doable to create 3D printed parts, the cost of producing it is still too high. In recent years, the price of 3D printers has come down and it has opened things up a bit to a lot more people and it looks like Jonny Lee has decided to start playing around with doing some BMX parts. Here’s a look at his first creation, a 3D printed BMX sprocket that he printed and put on his bike and rode! Take a peek. It sounds like we’ll be seeing more of Jonny’s creations in the near future, so we’ll keep you posted!

“Super happy with this. Today was awesome! Great things are happening, people! Stay tuned for more videos with this sprocket as well as the other 3d printed parts I have planned!” – Jonny Lee

Profile Racing – Tech Tip: Spline Drive Differential

August 4, 2017

Profile Racing takes a look at the evolution of the Spline Drive for them…

Profile Racing Spline Drive BMX sprocket

Over the years we’ve seen Spline Drive take over from the first designs that Tree Bicycle Co. released and pretty much all brands have gone on to also use on a sprocket or two in their line up. Profile Racing is one of those brands that has produced some amazing Spline Drive sprockets and they’ve managed to evolve from the 19mm spline drive and include the 22mm and 24mm sizes that have become more common over the years. Profile Racing just released their latest Tech Tip that looks back at the evolution and how they’ve managed to create sprockets that accept spline drive and regular bolt on sprockets in all sizes. You can check it out on the Profile Racing website right here — Tech Tip: Spline Drive Differential (Freestyle)

Odyssey BMX Half Bash Sprocket

Is it time for a new BMX Sprocket? Here’s a look at the new Halfbash Sprocket that Odyssey just released. This sprocket is made from CNC machined 7075-T6 aluminum with square teeth for better chain alignment, two sprocket bolt holes, 4 larger holes for weight reduction and 3 bolt holes for the removable and replaceable plastic bash guard.

Odyssey BMX Half Bash Sprocket

The Halfbash is designed so that you can run the sprocket with one guard, two guards or no guards. It comes in 25-tooth and 28-tooth sizes and black for the only color. The sprocket is available through BMX shops and mail-orders that carry Odyssey BMX for $59.99. No word on the price for the replaceable guards, but we’ll update this as soon as we know that detail.

Sneak Peek: Eclat – Onyx Sprocket

August 1, 2017

The crew over at Eclat have released a sneak preview of their new Onyx Sprocket that’ll be hitting BMX shops and mail-orders some time in September / October. This cold forged sprocket will not only be affordable, but it’s double sided with two unique looks, so you can run it either direction. Below you can find an Instagram post showing you the sprocket from both sides (use the little arrows on the photo to switch between the two). Since this is a cold forged sprocket, it should be pretty affordable. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more!

Here's a first look at our new #ONYX forged sprocket which will be available later this year. Thanks to the cold forging process, we were able to produce an insanely strong and durable sprocket which is not only much more affordable than a traditional CNC machined sprocket, but also features a different design on each side allowing you to pick the side which you're feeling the most, and then change the look of your bike at a later date without needing to spend any money. SWIPE right to see both sides ?????? #eclatbmx
