Chris Doyle Announces Retirement

I had to come back to edit this. I’m sorry for being misleading (but this scene is so funny). I’m not quitting riding, but PROFESSIONALLY, I’m moving on to other things. Thank you all for your concern and kindness! I’ll see you at @raysmtb this Saturday!

A post shared by Chris Doyle (@chris_doyle22) on Jan 8, 2020 at 11:19am PST

Here’s one we kind of had a feeling might be coming with the start of the new year. Chris Doyle has made the decision to retire as a Professional BMX Rider. Chris has had a long, and very solid career as a BMX pro, outlasting a countless number of other riders that have been Pro during his days. Chris made the announcement on Instagram with probably the best retirement announcement ever in BMX, using a clip from “Hotrod” to bring the news. Although most people understood, he decided to make a second post (you can find below) explaining that he’ll still be involved in BMX from his commentating work at events to his podcast and more, which he’s been transitioning into the past two or 3 years now. He just won’t be cashing those sponsor checks like he used to! Either way, Chris has been one of my favorite riders from pretty much the first time I rode BMX and it’s safe to say he’ll continue to hold that spot for a lot of riders into the future! Expect to see plenty more from the Big D in 2020, just not in the contest results.

Update: Brant Moore dropped a live stream interview with Chris about the news! Check it out below!

Where are my Midschool riders at!? Chris Doyle uploaded this gem from the early 2000’s for you to enjoy! The “Piece By Piece” video was produced by Jay Loychik and features a handful of familiar faces like Chris Doyle, Anthony Napolitan, Steve Cuesta and more getting down on some legendary midwest parks, trails, street spots and more. This kicks a ton of ass and definitely shows what this era of riding was all about! No shortage of Brakes, Primo Hemorrhoid seats, technical ramp riding (so many fufanu combos) and more in this BMX video. Hit play!

“Piece by piece is a short underground video that highlights a group of RIPPERS from the Youngstown, OH area. Filmed & edited by Jay Loychik.” – Chris Doyle

Chris Doyle coming through with a fresh Palaver Podcast for your listening pleasure! This time around he caught up with Morgan Wade in Hastings, England during the Battle of Hastings to talk about a ton of this from riding contests to crazy tricks, video parts and much more. Morgan is awesome on and off his bike and the stories and everything he talks about this undoubtedly will just make you like him more! Hit play and enjoy!

“One of the gnarliest men to ever touch a BMX bike, Morgan Wade. Morgan blasted onto the professional BMX scene in the early millennium and has had the throttle pinned ever since! In this interview we discuss more current events in Morgan’s life but we do delve into some old video parts and contests that he’s stood out in. This was a fun interview to do. Enjoy!” – Chris Doyle

Palaver Podcast – Todd Walkowiak

It’s time for another round of the Palaver Podcast for your viewing pleasure. This time around Chris Doyle sat down with Todd Walkowiak to talk his brawling days to his Pro rider days to what he’s up to these days and more. This is a two hour listen that covers a TON of history and stories, and it’s definitely worth a listen to!

“Coming from the legendary P.U.S.H. trail scene in Pittsburgh, PA, Todd Walkowiak made a big splash in BMX when dirt jumping was at it’s peak. Never flashy and always underrated, Todd was always a threat to the podium at almost every dirt comp. His technical riding was a breath of fresh air among the GO BIG attitude of the pro dirt era. Todd is perhaps one of the smartest and most talented people that I know… yet, remains modest, “if you’re prepared, than nothing is too hard”. Listen and find out more about Todd Walkowiak!” – Chris Doyle

Ryan “Biz” Jordan – Palaver Podcast

The latest round of the Palaver Podcast from Chris Doyle features an interview with Ryan “Biz” Jordan. This interview covers a lot of ground with Biz’s history as a Pro rider and he’s still crushing it these days as well, so there was no shortage of things for Ryan and Chris to talk about! Hit play and take it all in!

“Ryan “Biz” Jordan has been a sponsored professional bike rider for over 20 years. He’s stood the test of time and has grown with the ever-changing landscape of BMX. Even after two decades of success, Biz continues to progress his riding and push the sport. From trail rider / dirt jumper, ramp rider, to street, there is very little that Biz hasn’t done in BMX. We had fun with this interview; just two old friends sharing some memories and having some laughs!

Oh, and my apologies for the video being dark! I need to step up my video set up! Enjoy!” – Chris Doyle

Stew Johnson – Palaver Podcast

Here’s one we’ve been looking forward to since Chris Doyle let it out that he was working on an interview with Stew Johnson for the Palaver Podcast. Today is the day that the interview dropped where it turned into over 2 hours of amazing stories and conversations covering Stew’s history in the industry and his film work, along with a lot of other things he gets into like making the “Real BMX” videos happen for the X Games. Stew isn’t a guy who likes to get in front of the camera much, but he did a great job with this. Hit play and take it all in!

“For this interview, I sit down with legendary BMX video maker, Stew Johnson. Stew is responsible for some to the most influential BMX videos of all time and has a career that has spanned nearly 25 years. On a personal level, Stew’s videos had a direct impact on my riding, the way I dressed, and the music that I listened to. I think the same could be said by countless riders from my generation. Stew still continues to push BMX in a positive direction through video; he produces X Games “Real BMX” on ESPN; a show that highlights street riders and filmers and shows what goes into filming a street video part. Watch/listen and find out more!” – Chris Doyle

Jerry Bagley – Palaver Podcast

Chris Doyle coming through with a banger of an episode for the latest Palaver Podcast. This time around he sits down with Jerry Bagley to talk about his wild ride from how he got into BMX to making a ton of money as a Pro rider and having one of the top selling BMX bikes to losing it all and having to get his life back on track. This is nearly 2 hours long and it’s a real good listen. Hit play and take this all in.

“A natural on a BMX bike, Jerry Bagley rode a wave of success as a top ten dirt jumper at a time when BMX dirt jumping was at its peak. Jerry’s professionalism on and off the bike landed him some of the most high profile sponsors in the modern era – case & point, Jerry was the first North American athlete to represent Red Bull. True to his nature, Jerry doesn’t hold back his feelings, and speaks openly and honestly about the payoffs and pitfalls of his professional BMX career. Enjoy!

A big thanks to Biz for co-hosting this interview. Also, thank you to Will Stroud for the help with my audio + video syncing!

* Also, my storage filled up on my phone and cut off the last 10 minutes of the interview, after which the video cuts to a split screen while the audio finishes. Sorry, I need better equipment!*” – Chris Doyle
