BMX Day 2017 Johannesburg, South Africa

July 24, 2017

The scene down in South Africa has always been a good one. There’s always a steady flow of videos coming out of the place and you can bet that every year the riders all get together for BMX Day. This past weekend was no different! The locals came together in Johannesburg to spend the day exploring the city’s spots and have a good time. Colin Loudon sent over a video and a batch of photos by Grant McLachlan from the day for your viewing pleasure! Take a look at what went down!

Saturday 22 July, while the Street Series was going on in multiple continents, the bustling streets of New Town Johannesburg saw 100+ riders gather in front of Museum Africa In support of international BMX Day.

Already from the jump the warm up spot quickly turned into a frenzy of sending anything and everything down the set of stairs and getting tech on the Evals BMX flat rail to get the juices flowing before the mob headed off into the CBD.
After a quick briefing the heavy crew proceeded to pedal into the city and from that point chaos ensued as traffic was brought to a standstill in the city centre.

Private security didn’t stand a chance against a group this big which brought the perfect opportunity for those usually “untouchable spots” to be broken in.
Unfortunately this brought the attention of JMPD who tried to dismantle the group and shut down the jam completely. After a bit of smoothing over with the police, the massive crew headed to spots with less police presence. Which included a ghetto skatepark hidden in the centre of Joburg’s biggest taxi rank.

After a heavy session on the steel ramps the group made their way back down to the meet up spot to wind things down with the Ray Malinga High Hop contest hosted by Hunter.

No street jam is complete without an informal prize giving to hook the riders up who sent it during the course of the day! Shout out to Monster Energy, Evals BMX, Hunter, Skabanga Crew and 1933 Classic tattoos for making it all happen.
Thanks to everyone who made it out! See you all next year!

This past weekend was the annual BMX Day celebration that brought together riders all over the world for a full day of riding. The Street Series threw one of their jams in Philadelphia with Dan Lacey leading the pack of what appeared to be a couple hundred riders spot to spot all over the city on a scorcher of a day. X Games 2017 – BMX Street and Park Practice – Raw

July 20, 2017

Take a look at some raw clips that were filmed last week at X Games during BMX street and park practice…

Last week was the X Games in Minneapolis, Minnesota and some of the best BMX riders in the world were there to throw down on the street course, bowl, mega ramp, vert ramp and dirt jumps. Unfortunately unless you have special clearance, all you can film is practice. Here’s a mix of raw clips from a little street and skatepark practice. Check out riding from Garrett Reynolds, Chad Kerley, Ty Morrow, Devon Smillie, Broc Raiford, Sean Ricany, Dakota Roche, Simone Barraco, Dan Lacey, Colin Varanyak, Nathan Williams, Dennis Enarson, Gary Young, Larry Edgar, Logan Martin, Kyle Baldock, Kevin Peraza, Daniel Dhers and Pat Casey.

This was all filmed during one or two practices, so there’s definitely some riders we missed out on and there’s definitely some shaky clips. Also, the mic was acting up for some of the street action. Sorry about that!

X Games 2017 – Womens BMX Session

July 18, 2017

The ladies took the park course to show everyone they deserve a shot at X Games gold…

It’s been a long road for the girls that ride BMX and they’ve been putting in the work to get the recognition and respect they deserve. With each year, there are more girls riding BMX around the world and they’re constantly progressing.
For X Games 2017, a group of girls lead by Nina Buitrago were able to get out on the park course for their own demo session to show everyone just what they got. These girls travelled from all over the world on their own dime to prove to everyone they are willing to do what it takes to show everyone they want this. The goal of the event was to show they deserve to have their own class in the X Games next year, and there’s no denying that they’ve worked hard to earn a spot. Here’s a raw cut of footage featuring Nina, Hannah Roberts, Angie Marino, Perris Benegas, Nikita Ducarroz, Minato Oike, Ellie Chew, Elizaveta Posadskikh, Nikki Wetzel, Jesse Gregory and Tere Williams getting in on the fun.

Expect to see plenty more from these ladies in the future! They’re all kicking ass.
