Women & X Games – Live with Nina Buitrago

July 23, 2019

As many of you may have heard, the X Games wasn’t willing or able to do a Women’s BMX class. Over the past 5 or so years, the Women were able to get sessions on the course or do demos, but they’ve never been given their own actual contest. This year Nina Buitrago and the other ladies decided enough is enough and they weren’t willing to pay their way just to do another demo. The girls have decided to boycott the X Games this year to make their voice heard that they want their own contest. Brant Moore got on a live call with Nina to talk about everything going on, that helps explain how it all got to this point and where she hopes to see things go!

“Nina is an absolute legend in BMX who has shredded for years and earned the respect of the vast majority of BMX.
Recently she brought attention to the fact that Women’s freestyle BMX will be in the Olympics before it will have an official medalled event in X Games. With that, we had an opportunity to talk about her history with X Games as well as the history of women’s BMX with Xgames and her feelings about the whole situation and what it has become within BMX.

Rather than asking the exact same questions that have been beaten into the ground, we dug deeper and responded to a few of the different points brought up by some in hopes that considering both sides of the situation might help the conversation.

Check out @thebloombmx as well as @nina_burrito on instagram for more about women’s BMX and to follow Nina’s BMX journey!” – Brant Moore

X Games 2018 – Women’s Jam Highlights

July 21, 2018

The ladies had a big jam on the X Games Park Course…

Last year the X Games held a Women’s Demo and it went awesome. They brought it back once again for 2018 and there was no shortage of talent coming in from all around the world for the jam. Above is a highlight reel from the session giving you a look at what went down! After you check that out, you should check out the video featuring Nina Buitrago below pushing to make the women’s event a legit contest. There’s a ton of ladies throwing down some incredible riding and it’s safe to say having an actual event would definitely be a good idea.

“Watch the ladies shred the 2018 X Games course. Riders include Angie Marino, Nina Buitrago, Maca Perez, Elizaveta Posadskikh, Charlotte Worthington, and more!” – Vital BMX

“After working with X Games for fourteen years, women’s BMX advocate Nina Buitrago believes the time is now to make things official. Currently, the women do a demo on the park course. Nina – and the rest of the ladies – think it’s time to move forward and put some medals on the line. Watch and check out her thoughts!” – Vital BMX

Nina Buitrago – The Rollback Podcast

June 26, 2018

Nina Buitrago sits down for an interview on The Rollback podcast!

Here’s the latest from The Rollback podcast. This time around Kyle Carlson sits down with Nina Buitrago to talk about how she got into BMX, pushing women’s events in BMX, growing the sport, how the Vans BMX Pro Cup and the Olympics have been making an impact and much, much more. Nina has been a huge reason BMX has so many women riding these days and we’re real stoked on this interview. Hell yeah, Nina!

Womens Only Jam at Source Park Highlights

May 19, 2018

The ladies took over Source Park and crushed the place!

It’s been so rad seeing all the progress that the women in BMX have been making, especially in the last two years or so. It seems like there’s a TON of girls starting to ride BMX lately, and it’s been awesome to see. Source BMX have been doing ladies nights at the park since it opened, but they threw a big girls only jam to bring the ladies all together for a session. Check out this highlight video showing you everything that went down from a bunch of familiar faces and a bunch of new ones!

“Wednesday nights at the Source Park have always been girl’s night, but never quite like this… This time around over 20 women from all around the UK—as well a few visiting pros from the USA—took over the park for the Girls Only Jam. With no classes or age groups, everyone competed together—from 12 year old Sasha Pardoe to veteran pro Nina Buitrago. The judging premise was unique, as well, as the girl’s scores weren’t affected by what they didn’t pull, but only judged on what they did land. This approach encouraged the girls to push themselves and go for stuff regardless if they thought they could pull it or not. And it worked… just a few things we saw include 12 year old Sasha attempting fly-out tailwhips, Nina hitting the curved wallride, 16 year-old Hannah Roberts stomping a tailwhip air, Angie Moreno icepick grinding a rail off a kicker, and both Angie and Nina double pegging the big rail. A laid back session with your peers helping push each other to progress… sounds awesome, right? You bet it was. Shout out to all the women who rode, the people who showed up to show support, and The Source for supporting the women of BMX.
