Profile Racing – Tech Tip: Difference Between Mini and Elite Drivers
By now, you’re well aware of Profile Racing‘s classic Mini hubs and their Elite hub that would attract a swarm of bees from the sound. What you probably don’t know is that Profile Racing were the first to engineer a cassette hub for BMX, which ultimately allowed for all of us to run a 9 or 10-tooth driver on the majority of rear wheels today. What you might not know is what the difference is between the drive the Mini hub uses and the driver that the Elite hub uses. The difference is 156 points of engagements and two more pawls. For their latest Tech Tip, Profile have decided to explain the differences and talk about how the pawls are different for each driver. This is a pretty interesting piece to check out if you’re a product or design nerd. Take a peek at it all right here — Tech Tip: What Drives You
Profile Racing – How To Install A BMX Stem, Headset and Fork
We have been really stoked on all of the How To videos that have been coming out to explain proper bike maintenance. The crew at Profile Racing just released this new video explaining the proper steps to install a BMX headset, fork and stem on your bike. Now, this isn’t rocket science by any means, but it’s an important thing for any BMX rider to know how to do. This video covers the proper steps from placing the headset cups in, spacers needed for the stem and how to properly tighten everything down.
One thing they don’t cover in this video is how to cut down a fork if you prefer to run fewer spacers. That is something that is a little more advanced and requires either pipe cutters or a metal saw, but advised against since in some cases it can cause you to screw up your fork or even void your warranty. Let’s just focus on what this video covers, though.
“We here at Profile use Deco FuForks along side Deco Headsets.
Accompanied with Profile’s Push Stem, let Gus Lanzilotta run you through the proper install.”

Profile Racing – Tech Tip: How Many Teeth Do You Need?
Since the introduction of the 9-tooth driver way back in 2003, we’ve seen the freestyle side of BMX adopt the 25-9 gear ratio as a bit of the standard, but there are still plenty of options and combinations that can change the way your bike feels, how fast you can go and more. Profile Racing released their latest “Tech Tip” that gives you some insight into how the gearing works and what a few of their riders run for combinations. You can check it all out over on the Profile Racing website — How Many Teeth Do You Need?
What combination do you run on your bike and why? Let us know in the comments below! We would love to hear what you have to say on the subject!
How To Install Profile Racing Cranks with Spline Drive Sprocket
Here’s a video showing you all the steps to properly instal Profile Racing BMX Cranks!
Profile Racing have released this new How To video explaining all the proper steps to installing a new set of their BMX cranks with a Spline Drive sprocket. The Spline Drive system allows you to eliminate the need for a sprocket bolt, simplifying things with less parts involved in the process. This video takes you through all the steps from getting the sprocket on the spindle to making sure the cranks are properly tightened down. After that, you also get all the steps on how to remove the cranks as well. This is a pretty easy process that only gets easier after you have done it a few times. If you want to learn how to work on your BMX bike, this is a great video to check out.
“Let Profile’s Gus Lanzilotta walk you through installing Profile’s cranks (And Spline Drive Sprocket).”
