Red Bull – Danny MacASkill “Wee Day Out”

October 11, 2016

It’s always rad to see a new Danny MacAskill video pop up! Red Bull just released his latest video and as expected, it turned out amazing. This video has a feel good vibe and an almost “laid back” feel to it, even though he does do some pretty gnarly stuff. There’s definitely plenty of BMX influence in Danny’s riding from the bottom bracket grind he does on the tree to the reverse Vander Roll (seriously, why has nobody done that yet with all the freecoaster riders out there these days) and more. Get on that play button and enjoy!

“Danny MacAskill became one of the biggest YouTube stars in the world after his incredible bike skills were witnessed in a number of jaw-dropping edits, including Imaginate, Epecuén and Way Back Home.
Now the Scottish trials legend is back – this time on a mountain bike – with his brand new film, Wee Day Out.

Corey Bohan Goes Golfing With Red Bull and Hank Haney

September 7, 2016

It’s always interesting seeing what pros are getting into when they aren’t on their bikes. If you follow Red Bull, then you know they do a lot to help their athletes improve their skills, whether it be in their sport, other sports or just for personal wellness. They recently recruited Corey Bohan for some training in the world of Golf with a wakeboarder and a skateboarder. Over the course of the 3 episodes, we get a look at how these guys did, along with some of the science that is involved in this. It’s not BMX, but it’s definitely an interesting watch. Check it!

“Bridging the gap between action sports and golf, a new three-part web series called “Distance Lab” in collaboration with Callaway features renowned golf instructor Hank Haney teaching action sports stars Corey Bohan (BMX), Steel Lafferty (wakeboarding) and Alex Midler (skateboarding) how to hit a golf ball further than they ever imagined.

In this first episode, Hank Haney meets these elite athletes and observes them hitting drives to get a sense of their game. After seeing one of the guy’s swings, Haney says, “we can always send out a search party.”

“In this second episode, the athletes visit Callaway’s Distance Lab where Hank Haney and his team get baseline readings of everyone’s swings, gather data to help increase distance and the athletes add speed and forgiveness with the XR 16 Driver.”

“In this third episode, it was competition day to see who had the most impressive improvement, with Steel Lafferty taking the crown. His max club head speed turned out to be higher than an average PGA Tour pro (120 mph). There is also a surprise cameo by two-time world long drive champion Jamie Sadlowski, who provides tips and inspiration.

All three athletes showed significant long distance improvement, with Lafferty enhancing his drive from 281 to 320 yards. Bohan, a three-time X Games gold medal BMX rider, improved from 208 to 275 yards. Midler, an 18-year old rising star in the skateboarding world, improved from 191 yards to 266 yards.

Red Bull – Field Trippin’ with Dawid Godziek & Martin Soderstrom

August 13, 2016

Here’s one we spotted on Can You Dig It that definitely caught our eye. Red Bull coming through with a crazy video featuring Dawid Godziek and Martin Soderstrom getting down in the middle of a field of yellow plants. This is undoubtably unique and has some great riding to see. Enjoy!

“Two of the world’s most stylish cyclists, freestyle MTB icon Martin Söderström and dirt BMX genius Dawid Godziek, come together and present their new edit Field Trippin’. They raised the bar in their respective scenes, as they fly trough an iconic Swedish landscape without any kickers or landings, pulling world firsts and a signature twister on BMX.

Söderström got his inspiration from a farm segment in the iconic bike film ‘Life Cycles’. It left an impression on his young mind that he could never forget. To show appreciation for the way the film helped him shape his career, Martin felt a modern tribute was in place.

Crew:
Director/DP – Simon Berggren
Aerials/cablecam – Kopterframes

Music:
“Tonari” by WoodzSTHLM & Noomi

Special thanks to the Ohlström family”

Here’s a behind the scenes look at how they made the video above! This is so crazy and it took waaaaay longer to make this all happen than we thought!

“Some things are just far too simple. For example, building some dirt jumps in a field in Sweden and filming Martin Söderström and Dawid Godziek riding them on a beautiful sunny day. Too easy, right?!

Field Trippin’ tweaked this idea by digging the jumps into the earth, not on top of it. The result would hopefully see Martin and Dawid shooting up from and disappearing into a wall of yellow flowers when the field came into blossom.

Music:
3:12 “Love You More” by Ben Esser (Crispy Crust Records)
