Johnny Raekes – AM Spotlight

October 19, 2016

There’s no denying that Johnny Raekes has been making a name for himself the past year. We’ve been seeing him popping up more and more in videos as of late, and last week Fiend released his welcome to the team video that was damn good. Now today we get 4 more minutes of heat from Johnny further adding to his case that you’ll want to keep him on your radar. Hit play and take this one in! You will not be disappointed.

“Johnny Raekes hails from a small town in the state of Washington where street spots are scarce, but that didn’t stop him from exploding onto the scene last year. It was clear that Johnny had some serious potential and he quickly got scooped up by the prestigious Fiend BMX. Chances are you’re familiar with Johnny by now, he just put out that short/sweet welcome to Fiend video last week… However this 5-minute heater of a section courtesy of Fiend BMX proves Johnny Raekes as one of today’s most talented AMs.

“Raekes is exactly what you get when you combine natural born talent with hard work and a strong passion. The advantage he seems to have over just about everyone can only be described as outright unfair. As he did the previous summer, he came down to my house in Huntington Beach, CA for a couple months and rode his ass off. We drove all over Southern California hunting down the ideal spots for the complicated tricks he had in mind and steadily stacking clips (occasionally going to war for them). He’s a rad kid, a good friend of mine and a perfect fit for Fiend.. and also the WWE, so if anybody has a connection make sure you hit his line.” -Sauce

Huge thanks to Fiend BMX and filmer/editor Sauce for the assist on this one.” – Ride BMX

Urban Noise – BMX Street Riding In Tokyo

October 17, 2016

We’re pretty sure you could drop Devon Smillie, Tyler Fernengel, Bruno Hoffmann, Ollie Shields, Fernando Laczko, and Alex Donnachie just about anywhere and end up with a video packed with dialed riding. A few months back they were in Japan for the G-Shock Real Toughness contest, which we oddly enough haven’t seen much footage from, that left them with plenty of time to go out and cruise the street spots in Tokyo. Here’s a look at a bunch of raw clips. So good.

“With Devon Smillie, Tyler Fernengel, Bruno Hoffman, Ollie Shields, Fernando Laczko, and Alex Donnachie in Tokyo, Japan, for the G-Shock Real Toughness contest a few months back, it would’ve been foolish to squander the opportunity to ride street in one of biggest cites in the world with such an epic crew. So we arranged some local contacts, found a cheap hotel, and stuck around for a few extra days after the contest. Tokyo is so vast, insanely crowded, and security is on it, so riding street is not easy. Fortunately, as far as riding and filming were concerned, there were no sponsor obligations or clip counts to stress—and the sessions that ensued reflected that. The locals fed us a steady diet of predominantly ledge spots—and that was fine with us. The next couple days were super chill, consisting of fun spots, strange food, and more than a few street beers. The only sore spot on the trip was when Alex rolled his ankle on the first day at the first spot. After he did one of the cleanest and lofty uprail-to-hard 360s any of us had ever seen, we knew he was warming up for the hard 540, but he took his ankle out on the next try. Alex had to sit on the sideline for the rest of the trip, but he managed to hobble out every day and kick it with the crew, help film, and consume plenty of Kit Kats and other assorted candies. Meanwhile, local 13-year old Japanese prodigy, Rim Nakamura, subbed-in for a few of the sessions and totally killed it. Which was awesome to see—literally, a kid, just roll right into the session with some of the most bad-ass pros and just start shredding. Thanks to G-Shock, Hiroshi Uehara, Ken Jungnickel, Rim Nakamura, and all the other locals we met along the way.” – Ride BMX

Scotty Cranmer and the Roof to Roof Tailwhip

October 12, 2016

Who remembers that Scotty Cranmer ad for Vans where he did the tailwhip from roof to roof? Maybe you remember it from his welcome to Hyper Bicycles video. Some of you may, some of you may not, but that’s okay. Today we get some insight into that trick and it turns out that he did that trick more than once! Get on that play button and take a look!

“Scotty Cranmer reflects on the insane roof to roof tail whip that almost sent him falling 2 sran as a Vans ad in the July 2013 Issue of RideBMX Magazine, and was featured in his “Welcome to Hyper” edit later that year. 2-times the charm! We’re just glad Scotty made it away from that sketchy attempt unscathed.” – Ride BMX

How To Build A DIY Ledge Spot with Aaron Bostrom

October 4, 2016

When you think of building something to ride, you usually think of building a kicker ramp or welding up your own rail. Today, Aaron Bostrom gives you some insight on how to build a ledge to ride out of a few cider blocks, cement glue and some angle iron. Hit play and check it out!

“BMX spot/ramp building guru Aaron Bostrom shows you what it takes to build a spot in your spotless city.. In this case Aaron constructs a ledge using 16 cinder blocks and some liquid nails (plus some copping to make it legit). This is how to DIY; How to do it yourself and make your own fun.” – Ride BMX

Mic’d Up With Trey Jones – Bullshittin’ At The Battle Of Hastings

October 3, 2016

We always get a good laugh out of these Mic’d up videos Ride BMX have been doing. Here’s the latest where they strapped the Mic on Trey Jones for some hilarious commentary during Source BMX‘s Battle of Hastings practice. Hit play and take some laughs!

“Towards the end of the first day of practice at The Battle Of Hastings, I snuck a mic onto the one and only Trey Jones for a little impromptu Bullshittin’. The session at that point was pretty mellow with not that many dudes cruising, but Trey still manages to keep it entertaining…mostly thanks to Chase Hawk, haha.

If you haven’t noticed, this is pretty late. I got pretty sick at BOH and had to roll right into NORA Cup prep, so I’ll be editing a bunch of long overdue video projects this week and early next…stay tuned.” – Ryan Fudger

Inter-Ride Your-Bike Jam 2016: Craig Ranch

October 3, 2016

When everyone rolls to Interbike in Las Vegas, there’s no shortage of riders in the area looking for a good time. The crew at Ride BMX threw a jam at the Craig Ranch Skatepark where a ton of pros, locals and riders who were in the city for Interbike came out for a big session! Hit play and check out some highlights from the night before the cops shut things down!

“For the second year in a row we held our Inter-Ride Your-Bike Jam at the Craig Ranch park in Las Vegas during Interbike week. The local turnout was huge and we had plenty of pros in the house as well—at one point it even seemed like the Fit team was putting on a damn demo! Locals and pros alike were going off—the dude who crashed last year trying to ninja drop off an awning redeemed himself, another guy nosebonked a dude’s head (and won a GoPro Hero4 for it), and we gave out another Hero4 to T.J. Ettinger (@tj_BMX11) for killing it over the box jump with loads of style, and Chad Curtis (@chard_mander) walked away with a Stranger frame for shredding the grinds all night (with metal pegs). But it’s safe to say that everybody rolled out with something free thanks to the generous product donations from Vans, GoPro, GT Bikes, Kink, Stranger, Dans, Fox, and Mongoose. Things definitely got loose a couple of times and eventually the park security guard tried to shut it down and close the park early but nobody listened to him so he called the cops. The police rolled up deep so we got the message after that. Thanks again to all the brands who supported the jam, all the locals and pros who showed up, and to Reed Stark and Austin Aughinbaugh for helping keep the stoke going all night long on the mic.” – Ride BMX

GT Bicycles – The European Tour

September 29, 2016

It has been rad seeing GT Bicycles back on its game! This past summer some of their team made a trip on over to Europe to bounce around to a handful of countries from France to Germany and back. Here’s the video giving you a look at what the crew got into during their trip while out cruising the street spots and skateparks they came across! Plenty of damn good riding to take in, in this!

“Select members of the GT BMX squad (Brian Kachinsky, Dan Conway, Jason Phelan, and the French brothers Max and Tim Bringer) take a 2-week trip through the European continent. From ledges and baguettes, to bowls, beers, shop stops and espresso…These dudes lived it up on a trip through Paris, Stuttgart, Zurich, & Lyon.” – Ride BMX
