Introducing RADshare

October 21, 2019

RADshare BMX organization

Here’s some rad news that popped up in the inbox this morning. Steve Crandall and a few friends have launched a new non-profit organization called RADshare that is designed to promote BMX to the kids out there with free helmets and bikes, along with education on cool things like ramp building, DIY t-shirt making and more. This is just getting the wheels turning, but it sounds like an awesome project that could benefit a ton of kids who might not ever get the chance to ride BMX or learn some unique skills. Learn more below or visit RADshare.org!

“RADshare is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and empowering local youth through programs that explore and celebrate the art of having fun. RADshare aims to promote a safer bike culture by offering safety education, free helmets and dependable cycling equipment.

This organization, led by a community of creative leaders, seeks to close the opportunity gap through mentoring and exposure to the arts of fun and action-sports culture. It raises awareness for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) through a combination of better education, advocacy, and equipment, focusing on serving riders with less access to resources.

Boyley Jam 2019 Raw Cut

August 21, 2019

The annual Boyley Jam went down last weekend and, as expected, there was a big turn out and no shortage of wild riding going down on the sketchy ramps. Steve Crandall was running the mic and keeping the party going. The weather doesn’t look like it was the best, but it doesn’t look like it stopped anyone from having a good time! Check out everything that went down!

“The annual Boyley Jam collaborated with ourselves and FBM once again for another round of the FBM X DIG DIY World Championships and to ride and party in the name of Richard Ball. Needless to say, things were just as ratty and homemade as last year with a massive crew of riders and families venturing to Hastings to watch the mayhem. Sit back and enjoy another wild year.

Boyley Forever.

Shout out to jam sponsors: 4Down Distro, Source BMX, etnies, Fuse, Seventies, H Town Skates, Two Snakes Tattoo, Spread Eagle Tattoo.

Steve Crandall’s Home On Wheels Bus Tour

August 20, 2019

Steve Crandall doesn’t live in a van down by the river, but he does live in a pretty badass bus! Take a tour of the bus where Steve gives you a look at some of the finer details from the beds to the wood burning stove and more!

In its heyday, the FBM bus was literally fire beer and mayhem on wheels. This blacked out, FBM logo emblazoned, straight pipe exhaust attention grabber transported the FBM team up and down the East Coast and as far deep as Austin, Texas. After five years of road wear, the general unreliability coupled with the cost to maintain the beastly vehicle became too great and Steve Crandall hung up the keys for now. For the last two years Crandall has called the decommissioned vehicle home and has repurposed it into a live-in art studio complete with a wood burning stove. A BMX party bus turned serene creative space… Crandall walks us through the evolution of the FBM bus.

DIY BMX Worlds 2019 – Stop One: The Lost Bowl

April 30, 2019

The DIY BMX Worlds are back for 2019! Here’s a highlight video from the first round at The Lost Bowl! Needless to say, the backyard was packed and there was a ton of dialed riding going on from the bowl to the roof of the shed. Take a look at everything that went down and expect pretty more from the other stops this year.

““The FBM X DIG BMX DIY World Championships is not only the premiere contest series in BMX, but is a double points qualifier for the Olympics. At the Lost Bowl 4/20 season opener we gave away a custom painted Biltwell Gringo moto helmet, 69 dollars and a bag of weed to the winners of Best trick and ‘High Air’ before going to Wonderland to see Bert, Ski and Gary Ginches – Bon Scott era AC/DC cover band called HIGH VOLTAGE where they changed the words to DIRTY DEEDS DONE BERT CHEAP, while Bert’s Mom fist pumped and drank beer, standing in front of the crowd right at the stage. The whole weekend was a surreal BMX intersection of transcendental metaphysical hyperbolic cosmos and radabonzical friendly awesomeness. The Stoke was high…” – Steve Crandall

Space Brothers Podcast – Steve Crandall

February 20, 2019

The latest round of the Space Brothers Podcast has arrived! This time around Steve Crandall sits down to talk about FBM, riding bikes, traveling, announcing contests, his friendship with Mike Tag, artwork and much, much more! Steve is always doing something cool and has a ton of great stories and experiences to share. This is well worth a listen!

“Back in January of 1994 I had just flunked out of college and I felt like a complete failure, but I didn’t want to return home just yet. I knew of a house with bmx riders that had just come together a couple of months previous and they were looking to take over the upstairs apt but needed a few tenants. So I moved from school directly into what became known as the Fat House.

The original cast was an eclectic group of riders, mostly dirt jumpers and street riders which originally included Jody Donnelly, Mike Tag, Jeremy Reiss, Crazy Joe Daugirda, and last but not least, Steve Crandall. Crandall and the boys had just moved from Ithaca NY to move into a local skatepark that ended up going under before it got off the ground. They decided to stick it out and see what the Hoosier land could provide.

Over the next couple of years Steve became more focused as a rider and a company owner, while creating some of his early videos which would become instant classics. At the time FBM was just a clothing company with a few t-shirt designs, in which Steve made every one of them by hand on a printing press located on the back porch of our house. The FBM brand continued to grow in recognition as the crew traveled to events including NBL nationals, Hoffman BS comps, local trail jams, and even the first X Games. Some of the guys Steve sponsored were starting to receive notoriety including Mike Tag, which helped the name grow even more quickly. Not only that but some of the best dirt jumps in the entire country ended up being built by Steve, Jeremy, and Mike bringing people from all over the US to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Seemingly overnight the FBM name was everywhere and the Fat House became a bmx tourist destination.

We sat down at the Master Blaster Planet studios with Steve and talked about early life and growing up in Ithaca NY, getting on the public access channel, moving to Fort Wayne IN and into the Fat House, videos he released, turning FBM into a bike company, creating popular DIY events like the Ghetto Jam, announcing major bmx comps around the world, his relationship with Mike Tag, current projects with FBM, and creating a new book with Matt Coplon.

So get comfortable, crank up your speakers, and get to know one of the most popular bmx riders on and off the bike…. Steve Crandall!”
