VANS “MASH” – TRANSITION

April 16, 2021

Now this is how you start the weekend off right! Vans dropped this brand new “MASH” mix that is over 4 minutes of transitions and trails from their squad in Europe! Sergio Layos, Paul Thoelen, Greg Illingworth, Tom Van Den Bogaard and Teresa Fernandez ALWAYS deliver, so you know this is an absolute MUST SEE. Hit play now!

“We’ve got a really sick two part mixtape series for you courtesy of the VANS squad! Since all their team projects had to be cancelled due to covid, their riders wanted to be active and do their part as soon as they were allowed to go out and be safe again. But with very limited travel options, they all kept it local in their region (or wherever was allowed) and asked their homies to press on that red button. Rich Forne then took the footage and created two heavy mixtape MASH videos. First up is MASH Transition; with Sergio Layos, Paul Thoelen, Greg Illingworth, Tom Van Den Bogaard and Teresa Fernandez.

Look out for the street mixtape next Friday right here on DIG!” – DIG

Villa Carlota – Backyard Trails Session

July 23, 2020

During the quarantine, we’ve seen a number of riders building out unique setups in their yards just to have something to ride. Flybikes‘ team rider Teresa Azcoaga and her boyfriend decided to build a backyard trails setup to pass the days! This video gives a behind the scenes look into what it took to make happen, along with riding footage. The video is in Spanish, but luckily BMX is a universal language, so hit play and take a look. This looks like a TON of fun to ride! Plus, it looks like this place is sponsored by Dr. Oetker’s Pannini’s? Nice!

“We present to you #VillaCarlota ?, the story of how the confinement led the Spanish rider Teresa Fernández-Miranda and her partner to build a camp of #BMX and #MTB in the garden of their home.

Produced by Marramedia and directed by We Are Hype Agency, this documentary short film starring Teresa Fernández-Miranda and Javi Vaquer also features riders Jona Monfort, Fernando Godes, Miguel Peris and Lionel Miguel.”

Flybikes – Unexpected Indoor Session

November 1, 2019

This past summer most of the Flybikes team got together at their warehouse in Spain to spend some time cruising the local parks and getting some work done designing new products for the future. They caught a few days of sunshine, then the rain hit and they decided to convert the warehouse into their own indoor park! This video is a mix of footage from the nice days and the rainy days, and despite not the best weather, this video turned out real good!

Also, it’s cool to see the Coastin ramp get put to good use again! Check out How-To Build the Coastin’ Ramp if you’re interested!

“This past August after most of the team spent the weekend at the annual O Marisquiño contest in Vigo, Spain, we decided to have the team at our warehouse to spend some time working on new products and to have some fun on our bikes at some of the amazing local parks! We had a few good days of sunshine, then the rain started and we unexpectedly had to get creative to keep the fun going. We turned our warehouse into a spot to ride with ramps and ledges to ride! Here’s what Sergio Layos, Courage Adams, Teresa Azcoaga, Ruben Alcantara, Sem Kok and Pitu got into during the visit! Unfortunately Devon Smillie and Larry Edgar weren’t able to be here with us due to scheduling!

Despite a little rain, we still managed to have a great time! Enjoy!

Cutting through the course with expert precision, Spain’s Sergio Layos put down the ultimate impression for the judges to secure first place against the field. No stranger to the podium, Layos’ emphasis on style produced unique lines, reinventing foundational tricks that included one foot table tops, look back airs, clean transfers, and flawless toboggans. In second, representing the Gold Coast, Chris James put on a wild performance, landing an insane back flip transfer floating across the spine and topping it off with consistent airs and 540s. Smooth as ever, Canada’s Corey Walsh placed third, showing off huge transfers and an ally-oop off the tear drop onto Red Bull sub box. Honorable mentions go out to seasoned competitors Jason Watts, earning the Red Bull Best Trick, and Dennis Enarson for Best Line.

The women’s division offered a diverse showcase of the series’ best women contenders to date, including US riders Angie Marino and Nina Buitrago, plus Australia’s own Natalya Diehm. In the end, reigning women’s world champion Teresa Azcoaga took the cake, demonstrating pure confidence as she landed powerful airs and a noteworthy toboggan over the extension. Azcoaga has been a consistent player in the Pro Cup series, securing several podiums last season to claim glory in the overall series. This win puts her in a prime position in the title race, as she looks to continue her streak into Germany.

Runner up Natalya Diehm also put on an impressive show, compiling a mixed bag of tricks from big transfers and no-handers over the spine to win the judges over. Diehm also earned the Red Bull Best Trick honors with a big ninja drop from the extension. Finally, in third, Angie Marino expressed her flawless style, transferring smooth lines and table top maneuvers.

Building excitement for the world title race, the top 20 rankings from each division will advance to the next stop of the 2019 Vans BMX Pro Cup Series, taking place in Stuttgart, Germany on June 16. The winners from the Sydney regional qualifier have also secured their invites to the World Championships, to be held in Huntington Beach, CA this September.

Yesterday before the Vans BMX Pro Cup Men’s Final, the ladies took to the course to drop in and throw down! There were 10 riders in the women’s class and they all came out firing. In the end, Hannah Roberts found herself on the top of the podium with Macarena Perez and Nikki Wetzel taking 2nd and 3rd. Hannah has been on fire this past year or so, taking top spots at many of the contests she’s been hitting up! Awesome to see!

“In an exciting women’s competition, 15-year-old Michigan-native Hannah Roberts raised the bar of women’s BMX riding with her charging style and back-to-back trick selection, taking home the women’s Vans BMX Pro Cup first place title. In second, Chile’s Macarena Perez awed the crowd with her huge airs and high-speed lines. Ruling the park with strong riding and a unique fastplant transfer, Las Vegas’ Nikki Wetzel takes the women’s Best Trick award and joins Roberts and Perez on the podium in third.

“Riding with all these girls is amazing. The way that they push each other and stay upbeat is awesome,” an enthusiastic Roberts said. “Their positive energy helped me. I’m stoked about the win and so proud of everybody.”” – Vans

“Women’s BMX has been gaining momentum for years, but this feels like the culmination of a lot of hard work for these ladies. I’m fairly certain that this is the first major event to ever have a paid women’s class in the states and women from around the world came to take part of this historical session in an epic bowl at the Vans BMX Pro Cup.” – Ride BMX
