Red Bull – Behind the Scenes of Kaleidoscope: The Cinematography

November 19, 2015

The behind the scenes footage from Red Bull Kaleidoscope video keep on coming! Today, we were given a behind the scenes look at what went into the filming of the project and how they took rough ideas and drawings of ramps and made them a reality. It also gives us some insight into the camera equipment that was used during the filming process… There were definitely no VX1000’s used during the making of this one… In fact, we’re sure you could probably buy a hundred VX1000’s with the gear these guys rolled in with. All in all, it’s pretty crazy to see the level this project as a whole was on… It’s also good to see Matty Lambert was behind one of the main cameras filming this project. BMX riders tend to know a thing or two about filming BMX riders than somebody that has never rode before, haha. Hit play and take it all in already!

“Kriss Kyle and the production crew take us behind the scenes to show us how they achieved the impressive optical illusions and cinematography in his riding film, Kaleidoscope.”

The Making of the Flatland Tricky App

November 19, 2015

Yesterday we caught our first glimpse at the Flatland Tricky How-To App, now today we spotted a video on Flat Matters showing us just how the app that shows you how to perform flatland tricks were made. This BMX video shows you the crazy green screen setup they used to capture the riding tricks and the program they used to turn it into a 4-D rendering that can be viewed from every angle, frame by frame.

There’s a lot that goes into developing an app like this, and it’s pretty wild to see how they bring actual riding together with cameras, computers, editing and programming software to produce something like this. It also leads us to believe they’re cable of building off this to produce an actual BMX game that allows you to put these tricks together and control the rider. We’re not sure if it will actually become a game or not, since the how-to app is just about to roll out on iTunes and then Android in early 2016, but we could only hope, right?

Either way, this looks like a rad app if you’re looking to learn how to do flatland tricks.
