———————————

As BMX evolved from the 1980’s into the 1990’s, a whole new generation of companies and riders rose to the forefront of the industry, forever changing its future.

Caught up in the fold was a young BMX racer from Louisville, Kentucky named James Menard LeVan. Along with his sister Susie, the pair traversed the ranks of the Midwest US racing scene, supported my their Mom’s ragtag track-side business.

After getting bored with pedaling fast around a track, Jimmy transitioned into dirt jumping and street riding, and soon found himself caught up in the mix as outside corporate companies entered BMX in the mid-90’s.

Using skills learned from years on the racetrack, Jimmy soon found himself at the helm of his own brand of street riding – jumping large gaps – which would ultimately elevate him to legend status within the expanding BMX scene, via Props Video Magazine and the pages of DIG BMX Magazine. ’Levangelism’ was born

With the “Midschool” era in full effect at the turn of the century, the BMX world was soon transformed as new rider-owned companies emerged, including Jimmy’s own brand Metal Bikes.

As the years went on, a string of bad injuries would plague Jimmy as his riding career began to slow down, until a fateful skateboard accident would forever change his world.

“Go Fast Pull Up” takes a look at Jimmy’s amazing story while stepping through important moments in BMX’s colorful history along the way.

BMXFU dug through all their archives and compiled all of Shawn Swain‘s sections from all of the different BMXfu videos over the years. 6 full-length videos worth of parts in one 22 minute video. This spans about 10 years worth of footage, so it’s pretty rad seeing all of this in order. Take a look! You won’t be disappointed!

Focalpoint BMX – Banks Jam 2019

March 14, 2019

The annual Banks Jam is always a good turn out and there’s no shortage of dialed riding and good times. Here’s a new video Focalpoint‘s Cooper Brownlee put together giving us a look at the highlights from this years jam, which was filled with sunshine and good times! Hit play!

“The words “Flem Banks Jam” have always held a level of hype when heard that not many events in Australian BMX could match besides for maybe ACT Jam.

I always remember seeing photos of the jam going down before I had ever attended and hearing all the stories of how people were just killing it and sending it on a whole new level that I was not accustom to as a teenager simply riding his local skate park in Eltham. The water gap, the large red poles in all the photos and the crazy riding were all trademarks of the Jam so with a 5 year gap since the last jam in 2014 and with a new and less iconic location – could the jam still work like it used too?

Without a shred of doubt, the answer is yes.

The new location opened up new tricks, new gaps and the mother of all rail hops. Throw in A LOT of DIY work from the crew, a few flat rails and it was on!

Melbourne offered a balmy 38 degrees this particular day but thankfully this did not stop a whole new wave of riders coming through to give it their best all in the name of BMX and good times.

“In November the crew traveled to Torino to have a session at the new skatepark. On Saturday most of them filmed some clips at the spot in Valdo Fusi, then got drunk and slept at Baudi’s place. On Sunday, when the crew resurrected we rode the new park with the local homies. Good times.

Filmed (in less than 24 hours) and edited by Matteo Baudracco.

Riding clips by Matteo Vitali, Davide Raimondo, Paolo Giaconi, Luca Perrone, Mattia Romanazzi, Mattia Lussana & Manuel Grisafi.

John Lee – The BMX In Our Blood Podcast: Part 1

March 13, 2019

Here’s a fresh episode of The BMX In Our Blood Podcast to check out! This time around Joe Doherty caught up with John Lee to talk about being the nicest guy in BMX, FBM, recovering from a crash that landed him in the hospital, riding, family and more! John is a pretty low key, behind the scenes guy, but he’s always been doing amazing work! This is a super good listen, so hit play and enjoy!

“FBM’s John Lee IS the nicest guy in BMX! Part one of this interview is loaded with emotion as well stories of overcoming trauma through his caring friends and family. There was so much important content to this part 1 podcast that we decided to quit at midnight and finish it up in a few weeks. The questions from you listeners are ready to go!
John Lee is arguably the most inspiring BMXer I have had the opportunity to interview. If you don’t know John or know him but want to learn more, it’s all in here. I was so taken back by his emotion as he talked about his family and friends being there for him from the time of his accident (which he describes in detail). What a great way to kick off the podcast after a month of reflecting, healing and refocusing my personal goals in podcasting.
You can find John at fbmbmx.com or on IG at @popboy905
You can find me on IG at @gromdad2000 or on thebmxinourblood.com where you will also find past episodes and ways to support the podcast.
