I just got done watching the video, and it was really awesome. When I first started riding, trails were the only thing people rode around here. Now days it seems like only a few people still ride trails, it’s always street and skateparks. To be completely honest, I didn’t realize how many amazing sets of trails there are around the country. This video did an AMAZING job of reminding me of that.
The video is by John “Superfly” Skvarla, if you have been around riding for a while that name probably rings a bell, one of the base brooklyn guys. The video just showcases him and his friends traveling from the east coast all the way to the west coast, basically all over the country. Along with his friends people show up like Chase Hawk, Rob O, Jimmy Levan, Steve Crandall, and a ton of unknown guys who ride amazing.
The riding in the video is awesome. There was litterally four tailwhips that I don’t think any of them were landed, and I only recall like two barspins. So you can expect a lot of flow, style, turndowns, x ups, no foot cans, and a lot of other good tricks over jumps that are small all the way up to some massive dirt jumps that are probably bigger than the jumps at the x games. There is also street in it, not a ton but there is some pretty good clips in that from rails, ledges, gaps, and a few 360s down some solid sized stair sets. You get the picture, It is not your typical video that is coming out these days and it is so nice to see it. Nothing but super good times and super good riding.
Outside of the riding there is a lot of footage from all the different places they traveled. A lot parties were filmed and I am 94% sure that the amount of alcohol consumed in this video out does the movie Beerfest. I think there was a keg getting dragged into some set of trails or apartment in every section of the video haha. Beyond the drinking, there is some clips of them calling into a live Karaoke tv show, where they not only sing some sweet songs, but they manage to pull off calling the hosts of the show fat ass’s and other really funny things. I think that show is in Austin, Texas so maybe if your reading from there you might know what I am talking about. There is a slide show of like 500 pictures from throughout the whole thing, which sounds lame, but was actually really cool, it shows how much fun BMX is, and how much fun people with a common interest can have.
The filming and editing was something I didn’t know what to expect, I read that this was the first video Superfly edited. It was actually pretty solid editing. The music went well with it, the transitions were smooth, titles were cool, and I don’t think there was anything I could say was bad. There was a bunch of people involved in the filming and it was all real smooth and professional looking so it isn’t just some cheap movie that was slapped together over night.
Overall I think that the video is worth checking out for sure. The feel of the video is something I really haven’t got in a long while, it brings me personally back to when I first started when everyone got along and there wasn’t a reason to not want to ride with certain people. They show how much fun BMX is, and what you can make of it. The spots they ride are great, some of the most fun, and best looking trails I have seen in a while. I actually wish I could have been apart of these trips just to ride trails.
This video is one of those videos that if you never rode trails before, you probably wont be super into it at first, but if you have ever had interest in trails, or are apart of a set your self you will love it, or possibly get that itch to try trails out. I think that if everybody had to see this video, there would be more trails popping up again and people really would start going back to the true roots of BMX. No, it isn’t street as fuck, I guess you could say it is Dirty as fuck.
So if you like good times, trails, BMX, superfly, beer, or just want something new to check out that you don’t see in every video that is out lately I think it would be worth checking out. Plus they are donating money to Jimmy Levan and Stephen Murray to help them with their recent medical bills.
You should be able to get it at some mail orders soon in the future, but as of right now if you want a copy you can get it from the SuperBMX website for like $18 that includes shipping. If there are any copies available still, Jimmy Levan personally signed something like 25 copies for a few bucks more. Check it out!
