Gary Young – Van Doren Invitational Course Preview

July 26, 2016

It’s that time of the year for the Vans US Open, which means the Van Doren Invitational is going down right there on the beach as well. Here’s a a video where Gary Young gives us a tour of the course along with a little input from him as he rolls around (and almost gets taken out)! Expect to see plenty of wild riding go down in this bowl over the coming days!

“The 2016 Van Doren Invitational is upon us and the bowl has gone through some major changes from year’s past. We had Gary Young take a run and do his best to talk his way around the bowl…as you’ll be see, the course is fast, tight, and a little dangerous, haha. We’ll have full coverage of the VDI all week on ridebmx.com, so stay with us.” – Ride BMX

June 27, 2016

sunday-bikes-2017-soundwave-special-bmx-bike-bw

Last year the the Gary Young signature Soundwave Special from Sunday Bikes was 2nd on our list of the Most Expensive Complete BMX Bike for 2016 and it looks like it’ll be up there once again for 2017. Don’t let that $999.99 price tag deter you though, it’s worth every penny — and quite honestly it’s worth more than Sunday are selling the bike for.

The 2017 Soundwave Special starts out with the same exact aftermarket Soundwave frame you can buy at shops with the 41-Thermal heat-treating, Wave Top and Down Tube, downtube gusset, wishbone on the chainstay, removeable brake mounts and more. The bike comes with a 21″ top tube, 75-degree head tube angle, 71-degree seat tube angle, 9″ standover height, 11.5″ bottom bracket height and 13.5″ – 13.75″ chainstay length. You can find the Sunday Solar Bars with a 41-Thermal heat-treatment and lifetime warranty and the Octave fork with a 32mm offset and the 41-Thermal heat-treating as well.

The rest of the bike is decked out with Sunday and Odyssey Aftermarket parts from top to bottom..

HEADSET: FSA Sealed Integrated
HEADSET CAP: Sunday Octave Pre-Load Bolt

BRAKE CABLE: Odyssey Linear Quik Slic
BRAKE LEVER: Odyssey Monolever Medium
GRIPS: Odyssey Gary Young Signature
SEAT: Odyssey Monogram Tripod
SEAT POST: Odyssey Tripod Aftermarket

CHAIN: KMC Z-510HX

As you can tell from that list, every single item on this bike can be purchased aftermarket and without doing the math, we’re 100% sure it’s worth way more than the actual price of the bike if you bought each part individually.

Vans – Gary Young “Illustrated” Bonus Section

June 23, 2016

If there’s one guy you can always count on to come through with the good stuff, it’s Gary Young. Here’s a little behind the scenes insight into a clip that took a little more effort than expected to get done while filming for the Vans “Illustrated” video. It’s pretty crazy that, even after all these, years Gary can still find some NBD’s like this one at Home Ave.

“Gary Young takes a classic San Diego ditch spot and makes it famous once again with behind the scenes commentary about how he one-upped himself on his home turf for the Vans Illustrated Bmx Video.”

BS’in at X Games – Mic’d Up with Ryan Nyquist

June 4, 2016

Ever wondered what the pros are saying when they’re on the course at the X Games? Hit play and listen in and watch Ryan Nyquist get down during park. If this doesn’t crack you up, you need to see a doctor… Like Ryan apparently did recently, haha.

“It hardly needs to be stated that Ryan Nyquist is a veteran of X Games, but he also happens to be one of the funniest dudes on the deck. I threw a mic on him during park practice and in honor of the Bullshittin’ video we put together last year (which there maaay still be one), put together a pretty lengthy cut of laughs for ya…” – Ride BMX

Odyssey BMX vs Miami

May 27, 2016

Odyssey coming through with the heat for their latest BMX video! A few weeks back their team took a trip to Miami to explore the streets and get some time in the water. Above is the video that came from the trip. We shouldn’t have to tell you this is an absolute MUST SEE that you cannot pass up! Amazing spots and amazing riding. Check it!

“Miami. What a crazy place. The entire Odyssey team spent a week in this outrageous palm tree and concrete jungle, and every day was a struggle. Tom Dugan, who’s back was already tweaked prior to the trip, had his bike stolen the first day. Jacob Cable fell deathly ill and was bedridden for most of the trip. Our Airbnb host tried to steal our bike rack, and our jet ski tour guide lost his shit when we were, according to him, being too reckless on the jet skis (he worries too much and also needs to chill). And we got kicked out of a lot of spots. And not just kicked out, but brutally screamed at and degraded, or even physically attacked. But the Odyssey team will not be stopped. These guys rode as hard as they could every day, banded together against those trying to prevent us from doing our thing, and filmed a damn fine video, even in the face of so much adversity. Enjoy!

Featuring Aaron Ross, Brandon Webster, Broc Raiford, Gary Young, Justin Spriet, Jacob Cable, Matt Nordstrom, and Travis Hughes.”

Vans “Illustrated” DVD Trailer

May 18, 2016

Here’s one we’ve been anticipating for quite some time now! Vans have just released the trailer for their full-length video “Illustrated” that will be premiering at the X-Games here in June and being released worldwide shortly after. The video will feature Scotty Cranmer, Jason Watts, Kevin Peraza, Calvin Kosovich, Sean Sexton, Brian Kachinsky, Dakota Roche, Bruno Hoffmann, Ty Morrow, Dan Lacey, Gary Young, Pat Casey, Cory Nastazio, Tyler Fernengel, Dennis McCoy and Tim “Fuzzy” Hall. Based off what we know about each of these riders, it’s going to be an absolutely PHENOMENAL video. Get ready.

Directed by Justin Kosman
Produced by Jerry Badders

“Vans, the original action sports footwear and apparel brand, and the first name in BMX, announces the industry’s most anticipated video of 2016, ILLUSTRATED. ILLUSTRATED marks another astounding milestone for Vans, marking the brand’s first-ever, feature length global BMX video since the company’s inception in 1966. Directed by respected BMX photographer Justin Kosman, and featuring groundbreaking full parts from some of the biggest names in BMX, ILLUSTRATED gets up-close and personal with the multifaceted Vans pro BMX team as they circle the globe in search of never-before-ridden terrain.

ILLUSTRATED is about paving your own path; a unique ride through life, both on and off the bike. With style, precision and drama at every turn, each rider demonstrates their own chosen direction as they journey across the globe establishing their craft as creators of one truly original art form. In the end, we are graced with a showcase of cinematic adventures, written in scratches and skid marks on walls and rails around the world. This is their piece, their extension and their illustrated reality – this is ILLUSTRATED.

On June 2, Vans will present the world premiere of ILLUSTRATED at the iconic Austin venue, The Mohawk, during the 2016 X-Games. Chronicling another first in Vans’ history, the Austin red carpet premiere will be webcast live on RideBMX.com. Hosted by BMX personality Steve Crandall, the global webcast will feature live interviews with the Vans BMX team, exclusive unreleased bonus content, and the first official screening of the video in full form. The Austin event will cap off with live performances by heavy metal band Sword, alongside a DJ set by Vans skate legend John Cardiel. Following the premiere, ILLUSTRATED will make its international debut across the globe with stops in Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada and Mexico.

To learn more about the video, tour dates, locations and ticket information visit Vans.com/ILLUSTRATED.

BMX riders adopted Vans in the late ‘60s because of their reliable construction and rugged waffle outsole. The “Off The Wall” philosophy of BMX led to Vans signing on the first officially sponsored BMX athletes in history, Bob Haro and Greg Hill. Decades later, Vans’ checkerboard flag continues to be a global mainstay in BMX and the first in the sport and as the leader in BMX footwear and apparel.”

Co-Executive Produce: Bobby Gascon and Fara Howard
Music Supervision: Lory Vincent & Gerry CUller
