Chris Doyle Discusses Going Into Cardiac Arrest

Chris Doyle fills us in on what happened last Thursday in New Mexico…

On Monday we found on that Chris Doyle was hospitalized last Thursday in New Mexico from a message Kink sent out, but we didn’t really get much detail as to what happened. It turns out that Chris went into cardiac arrest and nearly died! Fortunately Calvin Kosovich performed CPR until paramedics came and Chris is still here with us today. We figured it would be a little while until we heard from Chris, but he dropped a message online explaining what happened and his condition that he has… So stoked Chris made it out of this one!

“Okay, so as most have heard by now, I had a very bad accident recently while riding… well, after riding. I was out riding with the Kink crew and shortly after the session, as we were loading up the van, I went into cardiac arrest. My friends most definitely saved my life. Jay and Nathan both called 911, Chad and Darryl ran to the nearest hospital while Matt rode his bike there. When that nearest hospital didn’t help, they came back to find Calvin Kosovich administering CPR.
What I am suffering from is called HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy). Click on the link at the bottom for more information.

I would highly suggest to everybody out there to take a CPR class because it definitely saved my life and it could save you or somebody you love.

Currently, I am at the University of New Mexico Hospital where I am receiving the utmost care. From here on out,I will be wearing a device called ICD to prevent this from happening again. Check out the other link below.

Patrick is not only a really dialed BMX rider, but he’s also a science teacher and he knows his stuff. In this video he discusses things like friction, momentum, law of conservation of energy and more. You probably understand how a lot of this works, but never knew the science behind it. Sneak Peek: Titanium Fork From Mike Laird

Mike Laird is starting to prototype test some new Titanium forks…

So I’m prototyping a handful of titanium lairdforks. The regular Ti-lairdfork weighs 1lb. 4ozs. and the front brake version weighs 1lb. 5ozs. The off-set will be 30mm. The legs are 1.125” in diameter and .065” wall thickness. After testing the Ti-lairdfork will retail for $450 regular and $500 for the front brake version. I will NOT be offering custom fork off-sets, there just isn’t enough time in my day to make custom forks and frames. And I will NOT be offering chromoly forks, there are plenty of chromoly forks already on the market. I’m not interested in producing just another average chromoly fork. Here’s some interesting news for the riders out there that are looking to lighten things up on the front end and don’t mind paying a little extra for it. Mike Laird has been doing Titanium frames since 2016 that will set you back about $2,000, and based off his Instagram he’s done a few of them for customers. Now, it looks like he’s playing around with doing a Titanium fork that you can see in his Instagram post above. It looks like they will be available in regular and another version with front brake mounts, they weigh in at just a little over 1 pound and will cost $450 – $500. These will only come with a 30mm offset and he won’t be doing custom dimensions, so you’ll have to settle if you wanted something a little steeper or mellower.

There isn’t an option to buy these just yet on the Laird Frame website, but we would imagine it won’t be long before he starts making them available.

Chris Doyle – Unreleased Footage

Tom Arkus dug into the archives and pulled out some unreleased footage from 10 years ago…

Yesterday it was announced that Chris Doyle had collapsed during a Kink Trip and he was hospitalized. There wasn’t a lot of details on just what happened, but we do know that Chris is recovering and is going to ride another day, which is great news. With the news circulating, a ton of riders have been coming out to show support for Chris. Last night we got a look at the Chris Doyle Benefit T-Shirts that Kriss Bennett is working on, and now today we get a look at some unreleased footage Tom Arkus had from 10 years ago that features Chris riding at Tim’s barn and Ray’s MTB in Cleveland. Although this footage is 10 years old, you might have some trouble seeing that since Chris’ style is so timeless.
