Women’s BMX Mixtape – Vans BMX Pro Cup Malaga

May 23, 2017

Here’s a rad video Nina Buitrago put together from the Women’s Jam and some of the riding the ladies got into during the Vans BMX Pro Cup in Malaga, Spain the other weekend! There was a whole bunch of girls who made the trip over for the jam and it looks like they had a damn good time riding the park, hook spot and more. Take a peek!

“This is a rough two part edit I put together for the ladies of BMX and our time in Malaga, Spain at the Vans BMX Pro Cup May 5-7th, 2017. All footage was shot on iPhone 7 or a GoPro of some sort. The first part is highlights of each of us from both the regional qualifiers and women’s demo at the Skatepark of Malaga, and the second part is a little spot mission a group of us went on immediately after we rode in our demoi. 15 year old Hannah Roberts made history at this spot becoming the first female to do a barspin AND tailwhip on the legendary hook spot.” – Nina Buitrago

Aaron breaks it down in 3 steps.

1. Level out and let go of the bars. Stretching your arms as far back as you can.

2. Start looking for the bars and keep your eyes on them so you can easily get your hands back on the,.

3. Put your hands out front and then find the bars. If you kept your eyes on them, it will be much easier to grab back on.

That’s about it when it comes to how to suicide no hander on a BMX bike! After you watch this video, grab your bike and start sending the trick! Start out slow and take your hands off a little, and slowly start stretching them further and further back until you can’t go any further. This is one that will take a lot of practice and time to convince yourself to let go, but once you get it dialed in, you can throw it into the middle of lines and tricks making for some interesting riding.

Tall Order – Riding The Death Spine

May 23, 2017

The Tall Order crew have been notorious for going to some really ridiculous spots that not too many people are riding. Sebastian Keep decided to head to this insane spot they’re calling the Death Spine where Bas, Jack Clark, Tom Graves and Oliver Jones dodge some traffic and get some riding time in! This place looks like a ton of fun to ride, minus the fact that it’s way more likely to get hit by a car than to throw down a bunch of tricks, haha.

“We went on a quest to find and ride this HUGE spine hipped pointy thing! Riding this is DANGEROUS! “

Red Bull – Tall Bike Revolution

May 23, 2017

Here’s an interesting series that Red Bull put out called the “Tall Bike Revolution” which takes a look at a group of guys who fabricate these insanely unique and original tall bikes that are unlike anything you have seen before. The guys tell their story about how they got into the bikes, what keeps them building, ideas they have and more. This isn’t directly related to BMX, but there is definitely a lot of influence coming from BMX and there are a few actual BMX related clips that make it into this series. Take a peek since this is a real good watch if you’re into bikes in general. Check out the six part series below!

“Riding any bicycle is a positive step toward a healthy lifestyle and personal enjoyment, but it’s the tall bike that has the power to change the world. The tall bike remains on the fringes — only embraced by the daring, the creative and the foolish. Join the Zenga Bros for a six-episode series where we explore how to build, ride and coexist on a tall bike.

The Zenga Bros mission is the eccentrification of the world: To create everywhere, redeem everything and be a fool. Learn more about the modern tall bike movement in episode 1 of this radical new series!”

“Episode 2 gives a thorough introduction to tall bikes; how they’re built and why the Zenga Bros are so obsessed with them. Explore the family history with tall bikes, and why we’ve come to believe this revolutionary vehicle has the power to change the world. Learn about the building process, which doesn’t require specialized skills, just a wild imagination and a keen sense for reusing materials.”

“Episode 3 illustrates how our tall bikes have evolved into rolling workshops, enabling us to make art, build ramps and carry all the supplies needed to transform any environment we pass through. You’ll see a bike give birth to another bike, and skateboard ramps built in unexpected places.”

“Episode 4 asks an important question, why tall bikes? To be fully self-sufficient – it feels so rad to be able to load up with all the gear to ride out and go camping. Episode 4 explores the full capabilities of the tall bike. Like the early settlers who ventured forth by horse and carriage, porting everything they needed to build a new life, the tall bike can be loaded with all the supplies needed to transform any environment they pass through.”

“In episode 5, it’s not about the rider asserting their creativity, but about how the tall bike can initiate such wonderful, spontaneous encounters along the way. In episode 5, you’ll see the tall bike as an augmented reality machine that surprises the passersby and awakens them from their daily routine.”

“Episode 6 culminates the series by highlighting the truly revolutionary aspect of the tall bike – it isn’t part of the economy. You can’t buy a tall bike, so the tall bike’s existence has to be about working with your hands, repurposing stuff and then taking it out on the streets and sharing it with people.

The tall bike encourages you to be a creator not a spectator, make the most of what you have, and express joy and love fearlessly. It can shift the rider’s perspective so that they can approach even the most familiar places from an elevated state of awareness – but let’s not get too serious, these are tall bikes.”
