Photogallery: Money For Trick 2016

November 1, 2016

big-party-is-coming

Last weekend was the annual Money For Trick contest at the Ruben Alcantara skatepark over in Malaga, Spain! The concept is pretty straight forward, you come out and ride and have a good time, and you win money and prizes all along the way! This year was nothing short of amazing with 200 riders that registered to ride the different events from the park and street contest to the Money Obstacles Race and more. This photogallery contains photos from throughout the day from pros to the young guns. Plenty of smiles! Below you can find a few words from Fernadno Marmolejo who organized the event and took all of these photos!

“With 200 registered riders from all corners of the country and other parts of Europe like the UK, Greece, Germany and France, the “Rubén Alcántara” Skatepark was packed once more. With one of the best bowls in the world, the level of riding going on was unbeatable. Riders like Juanillo from Chile blew minds doing a massive whip transfer, winning 200€ for the Best Trick contest. The “Follow Me” contest with Sergio Layos, Kevin Kalkoff and Greg Illingworth left everyone speechless with their incredible airs and style. After everyone had some Monster, we began the new event for this year, the M.O.R.(Money Obstacles Race). This event a had great response from the riders and that achieved its goal… Not focusing on the tricks and just having fun! Cristian Toledo made the best time overall with 11.37 seconds taking the 100€ prize!

After that, the dirt contest followed with some amazing flow from Miguel Cuesta, who took €200 for the Best Style. The Street contest was savage, there were a lot of riders wanting to give it their all, so we had to make 4 groups for this event… Courage Adams and Jason Eustathiou ended up with plenty of 5€ bills thanks to their amazing control and style. The Canary, Javi Castilla, won €200 for the best creativity with an oppo tooth to crank arm grind to 360… The crowd was loving every second of it and we gave away over €1000 in prizes like Vans Shoes, United frames and bars, Oakley Sunglasses and Polaroid cameras just by upload a photo on Instagram.

After things wrapped up, the after party started… All we can say is it was crazy!

Another year of Money For Trick down, with the REAL BMX atmosphere all day long… The event never would have been possible without the unconditional support of Monster Energy and the collaboration of United BMX, Vans, Oakley, BMX Union and Wallride Mag. Thank you for your support!” – Fernadno Marmolejo

DK Bicycles – Golf Flight Bag

November 1, 2016

dk-golf-bag-black-green-bmx-travel-bag-closed

Anyone who has travelled by flying knows that it can be a pretty stressful and hassle filled event if the slightest part of the plan falls through. Missed flights, getting hassled by TSA and having your luggage not show up can be a huge pain. Add in trying to fly with your BMX bike and it gets even more complicated because the airlines LOVE charging you over $100 just because you are bringing a bike along for the ride.

Over the years, we have seen a number of creative ways to get a bike on board a plane without putting a huge dent into the budget from boxes to breaking the bike down into a couple different suitcases and more. However, one of the best ways to do it has been using a Golf Bag. Ironically, flying with golf clubs doesn’t come with a big fee even though half the time they weigh more and take up just as much space as a BMX bike.

Luckily, a few years ago DK Bicycles figured out that they could fit a BMX bike into one of those bags and made getting through baggage check and TSA a breeze. That lead to the creation of the DK Golf Flight Bag that has become a must have for any BMX rider that plans on doing some traveling in the air.

The DK Golf Flight Bag is made from durable rip stop cordura with fully padded sides, a larger padded side pocket, heavy duty zippers to help hold up to all the wear and tear, rolling wheels to help keep you moving and an embroidered DK Golf logo to help sell the baggage people that there’s just some golf clubs inside. The DK Golf Flight Bag measures in at 51″ tall x 15 1/4″ x 12″ wide giving you plenty of room to fit your 20″ bike, along with most 24″ bikes, your tools and even some clothes or whatever else you might need to bring along for the ride. However, we would suggest a separate suitcase or bag for the clothes just because you could end up with some grease rubbing on everything.

The DK Golf Flight Bag comes in two colors; black with green and black with plaid, and has a price tag of $139.99 through BMX shops and mail-orders that carry DK Bicycles. You can also get it for $139.99 + FREE Shipping on Amazon.

$139.99 might seem a little spendy, but if you’re planning to fly more than twice, this thing should pay or itself time and time again in the savings you will be getting with every trip to the airport.

The crew at Odyssey also make a bag called the Nest Travel Bag that is similar to the Golf Flight Bag, but has a few different features like a separator to help keep clothes clean. You can also find actual Golf Travel Bags that are more affordable, but they typically aren’t built to hold up to the same abuse as the DK or Odyssey bags. We have a few examples below that are currently available on Amazon for you to check out for comparison purposes. Either way, a Golf Bag of some sort is an absolute must have for flying with a BMX bike!

Lucas Lage – Yes, I Ride A Cassette

November 1, 2016

It’s kind of crazy how riding a cassette hub seems like it’s a minority in the BMX world these days. Lucas Lage is one of the “few” who are still out there riding street with a cassette and it’s safe to say it isn’t holding him back. Hit play to watch him get down on some proper Midwest spots, bringing his bag of tricks with him!

“I would like to begin by thanking everyone that’s been waiting to see this. Trust me, I’ve been just as anxious. I won’t lie that it has been quite a rough year. Bad weather, injuries, broken parts, little money, BUT I’m not one to ever give up. Smash the like button for me if you happen to enjoy this video, share it on your social media, or show it to your dog. Thanks again everyone and have a safe and happy Halloween!”
