The Art of the BMX Sprocket

It’s been a while since we’ve done one of these “The Art Of” pieces, so we figured it would be a good time to take a closer look at one part in particular that we’ve been thinking about lately, the BMX Sprocket. The other day we were bouncing around to a few different brands websites to see if there were any new products or anything else new to see, and we ended up staring at the sprockets. When you think about it, the sprocket is one of those things that can really be altered the most as far as aesthetics go. We’ve seen A LOT of sprockets in BMX’s history, so we decided to stick to sprockets that are currently available. Even with cutting it back to that, there’s still a ton of options available. Add in the different combos between the standard bolt drive, Spline drive, and socket drive, colors, versions with guards, etc. There’s a lot to take in. We bounced around and picked out some of our favorites from a number of brands, which you can check out below with a few words about each! Ready?

Colony BMX – How To Replace a BMX Tube

Colony BMX keeping the maintenance how-to videos coming through. This time around, we get a tutorial on how to replace your tube when you catch a flat tire. Although this is pretty basic and one of the most common repairs you will do on a BMX bike, it’s something you’ll want to learn how to do right. Obviously this is something more directed toward the younger crowd just getting into BMX that haven’t worked on their own bikes before. The crew over at Colony hit us with a link to a new Instagram compilation BMX video with footage of Paddy that was filmed over the course of the past 8 months at The Lumberyard in Portland, Oregon! Colony BMX – Summer of Colony Road Trip

Colony just sent through their latest BMX video from a trip they took hitting skateparks, street spots and Clint Millar’s backyard ramp all along the way! This video is stacked with amazing riding from a bunch of different styles from street guys to technical lip tricks, front brake magic and big bangers. Don’t pass this up!

Colony BMX – How To Fit Handlebars

Colony keeping their bike maintenance series going. This time around we get a look at the proper way to install your handlebars on the bike. This focuses in on the proper way to tighten the stem bolts, which we’re sure most of you beginners and maybe a few more experienced guys may not have known. Improperly tightening your stem bolts can lead to unnecessary stress that can lead to breaks. Take a look and see just how it’s done in the BMX video above.
