GT Bicycles – Jay Cowley: Smoke & Lights

September 6, 2016

GT Bicycles connect over on the U.K, Jay Cowley coming through with a creative new video fueled with a smoke machine and lights, with a hint of fire, at a skatepark. This is definitely a unique video with some great riding. Take a peek!

“Southern UK local and GT Bikes team rider Jay Cowley, came through with this twist on the ever popular smoke and lights video concept, throwing some LED’s, lazers and even fire into the mix. We asked Jay to tell us a little more about the whole thing…

THE LOCATION

“Location of the video edit is a Maverick built park in Tiverton, Devon UK. My local – I helped raise money and planning for.”

THE FILMER

“The man behind the camera is Paul Foster (Tempo Media). Foster being a skateboarding, BMX riding, music making rad dad is just fun and awesome to work with. We both get what we wanna do and get out of something and just have the most fun doing so. But when the time comes he gets the shots and is all over that camera.”

THE SMOKE AND LIGHTS

“So idea for this video edit, was to have some fun and make something a lil’ different but fun to watch, I’m not a rider who’s on the last tech tricks and stuff. So instead we kinda worked with style and effects.

We had a smoke machines with some different coloured smoke, Lazer lights, LED lights, building lights and someone’s great idea to use some petrol from the genny to set fire to stuff.

So all the fun stuff was supplied by my clothing and beer sponsor NEW DEVON ARMY / NEW DEVON BREWING. Jason at NDA is just a big kid! Works hard but plays ten times harder!

I told him we was going to do a video spot lit at the local park, I got a phone call from him saying “I got a Genny, lights, smoke, Lazers and coloured lights – let’s have some fun an beers and see if we can create something”. We set an evening, rocked up to the park had a ride some beers while the sun went down for it to pick up in the camera, so you could see the colour and smoke. I had to ride with just one builder’s light on at a time, so it was pretty dark and really surprised me didn’t get a visit for “the one time” (police) as we were lighting the park up with lights, smoke and on fire till near 3am in the morning.

This video won’t be for everyone as I don’t follow the latest trick combo or fashion much, I just do want I wanna and what feels good to me. Couldn’t care what’s in or out it’s FREESTYLE!

A wise man once said to me, ‘do what feels best for you and not what others want to see from you’ – I have always listened what my dad has had to say.”

THE SONG

“After phone called and texts with Paul, Jason and me about what we had and ideas I was washing dishes one evening – I’m a family man now – I heard the song on the TV, ran into the front room to see what it was and missed it, this happened a few times. Hearing the advert on TV but by the time I got to the TV it had finished, a few weeks had passed and I was putting some new stock out in my shop and J was humming it. A lil’ kid was in the shop an said, “what are you singing the ice song?” I said “Ice song?” and his mum said “sorry he means the magnum advert” – went and looked it up after that and found it was Jack White – John Ball stepper. The reason why I liked this so much was the raw rock sound, not over-worked and to perfect sound. Just felt it would work.”” – DIG BMX

Colin Varanyak “Animal House” Section

September 2, 2016

Colin Varanyak crushed it during his stay at the “Animal House”…

We were wondering if the individual sections from the Animal Bikes “The Animal House” video would be making it online. Well, today it starts now. Here’s a look at Colin Varanyak‘s section that’s packed with some heavy, heavy clips from the time spent in New York City with the crew! We really love the film work in this one, too. Ryan Navazio crushed it with this one.

WATCH: Animal Bikes – The Animal House: BMX In New York City

“When The Animal House dropped late last year it was surrounded by a ton of excitement, and it was one of the rare times that a major project fully lived up to the hype. Colin Varanyak closed the mixtape out with banger after banger, including an ender that is not hyperbolic to call next level shit.

BSD X Dig – Meet the Iran BMX Locals

August 24, 2016

It’s pretty crazy how when you think of Iran, you just think of the crazy wars and everything going on in the Middle East… Honestly, BMX is probably one of the last things that would come to mind for most people. It’s videos like this that give you insight that even in places you might not expect it, BMX is alive and well. Hit play to check out some riding from the AMAZING skatepark they have in Tehran, along with some words from the locals keeping the BMX scene going over there.

“No matter where you go in the world there always seems to be a scene of BMXers making do with the hand they’ve been dealt, and working hard to make the most of what they have on offer. Tehran, Iran is no different and the guys over there kill it despite having very little regular outward help. While Antoine Sabourine was out there in 2015 filming for the DIG X BSD video ‘Lost In Iran’ video he spent some time at Abo Atash skatepark to catch some words and clips with the dudes who made it all happen out there. Truly inspiring.

If you remember, Luc Legrand, Clement Baes, Antony Lille and Antoine Sabourin spent some time in Iran a while back for their LOST IN IRAN video. Now we get some leftover bonus footage that didn’t make it into the first video, which is damn amazing. Check it.

“When you travel to a far away land shrouded by a turbulent history and pretty much solely bad press, you’re going to come away with something, be it good or bad. However, as will be with most cases, things couldn’t have worked out better for BSD’s Luc Legrand, Antony Lille and guest rider, Clement Baes with Iran playing the perfect host to their 2015 adventure. Due to the amount of incredible stuff to see there was an excess of great footage that gave more of the flavour of the trip beyond just the rdiing. Sit back and enjoy some of that extra footage that didn’t make the original cut.

Battles – Dan Paley VS The Kinked Rail

August 18, 2016

If you ride BMX, there’s no doubt that you have had to battle it out with a trick in the past. It’s frustrating, it’s painful and it’s hard to just give up. While filming for BSD‘s new DVD “Transmission“, Dan Paley had a battle with a kinked rail that undoubtably kicked his ass, but that didn’t keep him from getting back up and getting it done.

“It’s time for another Battle and this episode we’ve got none other than the donny solja, Dan Paley getting put through the ringer and going head to head wth a wild kinked rail crook while filming for the new BSD Transmission DVD. Sticking into a long crook is hard enough but hitting this kinker at the same time looked like a mind fuck. Needless to say this hawg comes through in a big way. Once you’re finished make sure you get your hands on a copy of ‘Transmission’ – it’s seriously epic.

Standard Bykes Does Denver

August 17, 2016

The Standard Bykes crew coming through with a fresh video from a team trip they took out to Denver, Colorado to cruise street spots, ditches, trails spots and more, along with cause havoc in the hotel. Hit play to check out a bunch of clips they stacked during their stay!

“Today we are proud to bring you Standard Does Denver, a trip video with Standard’s Billy Woodfin, Zack Gerber, Chase Pauza, Matt Lough, Johnny Del Balso, Sam Stebila, and Riley Guest as they make their way from brand HQ in Davenport, Iowa to the Mile High City Denver, Colorado. BMX and road trips have always gone hand in hand, there’s no better a way to bring a team together, ride, film, and get into random adventures along the way! After you are done watching, read more about the trip from Billy Woodfin below…” – DIG

“We started out the trip by meeting in Davenport at the Standard Byke Co. headquarters. After some last minute preparations and bike rack modifications, we were on the road to Colorado. We piled into my car to meet with the rest of the team that was flying in. Some of us had been on the road together before, but for others this was a new experience. The drive is a long one, so we made due riding goofy setups at Nebraska rest stops while truckers slept in the parking lot. After a long 16 hour drive, we finally made it to Denver ready to shred. I really wanted to put this trip together to show that Standard Byke Co. is still around and kicking ass. We’re a very diverse team of riders but still have that classic Midwest style.
Aside from showing everyone that Standard hasn’t gone anywhere, we really wanted to show that you don’t need tons of money or fancy sponsors to put together a badass trip. We also wanted to emphasize that BMX is much more than just riding bikes. BMX is about the experiences and memories you make with some of your best friends or even complete strangers. Needless to say, we kept to the classic BMX objective, which is being carefree and having a blast.
There are too many great stories to tell in just 1 short article. A lot of wildness went down, and not all of it was just riding. One day Zack Gerber, Chase Pauza and I decided to start walking up the side of a mountain in the continental divide with no shirts and riding shoes, and Chase was in his underwear. We only intended on hiking a couple hundred feet, but weren’t satisfied once we got there. After 2 hours of hiking we found ourselves at about 14,000ft elevation. It was absolutely exhausting and treacherous. We almost died a couple times sinking into deep snow trying to reach the summit. The hike down was harder than the hike up, being delusional from lack of oxygen and exhaustion. We probably should have brought water too. One of the best clips we got on the trip was a result of true teamwork. We got kicked out of an epic spot before Zack had a chance to get a clip he had in mind for quite some time. We all decided to split up to try and distract the security guard elsewhere. The security found me in a parking lot by myself and began asking where the rest of us went. I knew how important this clip was, so I did everything I possibly could to keep the idiot distracted. Asking him everything from “Where is the nearest gas station?” to ” Where do babies come from?”. After around only 10 minutes of distraction, the guys came running back up the parking lot absolutely pumped.
The trip was a complete success and I believe the footage will back that up. Everyone rode hard and no one was seriously injured. We had many uncontrollable laughs, bathed in freezing streams, saw amazing sights and rode some unforgettable setups, which made this adventure a prime example of a good ol BMX roadtrip. #rideforglenn”

“Our DIG Dozen series continues with 12 clip combos and a healthy dose of trails, pools, and parks courtesy of Nathan Sykes. With more and more regularity Nathan’s name keeps popping up, and we hope that trend continues. It’s rare these days to see such a well rounded rider who knows how to make it all look good. Hit play and enjoy.
