Monster Energy – 2019 Toyota BMX Triple Challenge Highlights

This past weekend the Toyota BMX Triple Challenge went down in Arlington, Texas with a ton of BMX’s finest in attendance for a unique contest that mixed the street guys with the ramp riders. This time around they did a ramp / street setup versus the dirt jumps we’ve been seeing in the past. Here’s a highlight reel Monster Energy put together featuring Garrett Reynolds, Kevin Peraza, Dennis Enarson, Dakota Roche, Dan Lacey, Kareem Williams, Larry Edgar, Mike Gray, Trey Jones, Drew Bezanson, Gary Young, Brett Silva, Johnny Atencio, Victor Peraza, Parker Heath and more all throwing down!

“The Toyota BMX Triple Challenge has proven to be the premiere event for pushing the level of dirt riding. But this year, the stop in Arlington switches all that up and takes on a whole new feel with ramps, trailers, jersey barriers, wallrides, and rails. The unique, street style course was designed by none other than Monster’s own Kevin Peraza and it brought out some of the best street and ramp riders in the world…check the highlights!” – Monster Energy

Subrosa In Color

Subrosa’s old filmer, Bobby Kanode, decided to release a video that might not have ever seen the light of day…

Anyone who has taken filming BMX serious has always dreamed of being paid to film for a brand or a video project. Bobby Kanode spent 3 years as the team filmer for Subrosa, which meant he spent his days traveling all over the place with the team filming for web videos, full-length videos and more. During his time he stacked a lot of clips, some were used, others weren’t and were just sitting on his hard drive waiting to be seen. The time has finally come, because Bobby has gone through and edited the clips into this full-length video that’s loaded with pure gold featuring their team riders, past and present, during that time frame. When Subrosa first started out, they did a lot of their projects in black and white, so that’s where the title comes from. Get the full story from Bobby below!

“From 2013 to 2016 I had the opportunity of a lifetime to be the filmer for Subrosa Brand. When it was all over I was left with a hard drive full of good times, and last year I chopped this video up to “clean out my closet.” I can’t say enough good things about all the boys, and I had the time of my life. This is kind of the DVD that never happened. Big thank you to Ronnie Bonner and Ryan Sher for having me for those years, and bigger shout out to the best team in BMX.

We’ve got a lot of recycled clips in here but they’re in color now, as well as brand new (yet still old) never seen section from Johnny (no longer on Subrosa) and a stacked friends section. Pretty hyped!

Love you guys, enjoy.

Johnny Atencio OFF The Shadow Conspiracy and Subrosa

It looks like Johnny Atencio will no longer be riding for The Shadow Conspiracy and Subrosa AM squad in 2018…

farewell.

A post shared by Johnny Atencio (@johnnyice_) on Dec 12, 2017 at 10:23am PST

Just when we found out that Tyler Fernengel and Jason Watts were OFF Haro, we scrolled a little further on Instagram and found out that Johnny Atencio will no longer be riding for The Shadow Conspiracy or Subrosa. Johnny had joined both teams back in 2015, and has been on the AM squad since. We’re not sure what spurred the decision, but we would imagine Johnny will be one of those riders to keep an eye on for 2018 because he’s been dropping some serious heat the past few years.

There’s always something good going on in the streets of Los Angeles. Here’s a video from a BMX jam that Anthony “Boy” Flores and Oriol Bike Shop threw last weekend. Plenty of heat from the Pros to the young guns on street spots and skateparks they hit up. Check out what went down!

“LA legend Anthony “Boy” Flores teamed up with Oriol Bike Shop to host a massive street jam in Los Angeles this past weekend. Garrett Reynolds, Johnny Atencio, Ty Morrow, Brandon Begin and a ton of others showed up to join the fun. Check out the highlights!” – Vital BMX

A few weeks back, The Shadow Conspiracy and Subrosa World Tour made a stop at Woodward East where Mark Burnett, Matt Ray and Johnny Atencio spent a week cruising the camp, stacking clips along the way! Here’s a look at what went down!

“Mark Burnett, Matt Ray, and Johnny Atencio came in for the week and put in some serious work here at Woodward PA. These guys are not playing around. Check it out as they ride a bit of everything here at camp!

Johnny Atencio – AM Spotlight

If you pay attention to street riding, there’s no doubt that Johnny Atencio has popped up on your radar plenty of times before now, but he’s still a newer name that has been crushing it out in the streets. Ride BMX just dropped this new AM Spotlight where Johnny slays spots out in Southern California. If you’re into grinds and smooth lines, this BMX video is for you!

“Name: Johnny “Ice” Atencio Age: 18 Location: Huntington Beach, CA Sponsors: The Shadow Conspiracy, Subrosa Brand, Vans

Johnny Atencio hails from Albuquerque , New Mexico but made the trek out to Southern California last year and immeiteaely started making noise. Johnny’s got all the tech moves, but what sets him apart is his fearless eye and sheer determination to step up to the big-big setups… Case in point, the ender of this video. Johnny had ridden the Chase Hawk Born and Raised AM Jam all day in the blistering heat, and I’m talking brutal heat, so much so that Johnny’s forearm cramped up on the way to the spot. Johnny couldn’t be fazed though… a few bottles of water and a number of forearm stretches later, Johnny was good to go. After taking a serious digger to the chin i had my doubts, but the Ice Man marched right back up that set to lay claim to his hammer… DETERMINATION.” – Ride BMX

We’re always stoked when Ben Austin sends through a fresh round of “Strays” to give everyone a look at a few photos he shot that didn’t have a home. This third round features Reed Stark, Johnny Atencio, Erik Elstran, Justin DeWitt, Glenn Dussl, Kyle Stark, Ryan Barrett and Cody Smiglewski getting down on spots around Minnesota and a few other places that Ben travelled to over the course of this summer! As always, Ben produces some amazing photos!

If you’re a photographer looking to get your work seen, Ben is looking for contributors for future issues. Leave your info in the comments below and we’ll get you connected!
