Photogallery: Pascal Lafontaine: Final Sessions

July 15, 2015

Life is funny. One day you can be on top of the world, then out of no where you can have your life flipped upside down. Recently, our good friend and one of Canada’s finest BMX riders, Pascal Lafontaine, was diagnosed with a cancer called Ewing Sarcoma in his right foot. Due to the cancer, on June 10th they were forced to amputate his foot and part of his leg to keep the cancer from spreading.
As you can imagine, with something like this it is very sudden and unexpected and because of it, Pascal is being forced to re-learn how to do his whole life with the use of prosthetics. This has also forced him to put BMX on the back burner for the time being until he can get a prosthetic designed similar to Kurt Yaegar’s to get him back on his bike.
Despite being put in a shitty situation, Pascal is staying positive and working his ass off to get back to his life and riding.

Prior to finding out the news, Pascal had shot a ton of riding photos that would be his last before going through the emergency amputation surgery that you can check out by visiting the link below! We have also included a quick clip of Pascal doing his physical therapy to re-learn how to walk! We hope you can all send Pascal some positive vibes to help keep him motivated to get back on the bike, we sure are!

Jed Mildon – The Worlds First Quadruple Backflip

July 12, 2015

Watch as Jed Mildon and James Foster went head to head to pull the worlds first quadruple backflip on a BMX bike! These guys both took some SUPER heavy slams chasing this one, but it looks like Jed was able to pull it off after quite a few attempts. Who remembers when Dave Mirra pulled off the double backflip for the first time? Kind of crazy to think this is two of those in one go, even though the Nitro Circus ramp is absolutely nuts and built for this kind of trick. Watch him do it right here!

Insight: Fuse Protection – Helmet, Shin and Knee Pads

July 8, 2015

With BMX comes a lot of crashing. There’s no way around it, no matter how good you are… You’re going to take some spills and slams. That’s just part of how it goes. With that being said, it’s never a bad idea to have some protection to keep you from getting cut up, broken and battered from those crashes, slipped pedals or freak instances where you get caught up and going down hard. We recently got our hands on the Alpha Whip / Shin pads, Delta knee pads and Icon helmet from Fuse Protection and figured it would be a good idea to give you guys a closer look at some of the features that make these pads so beneficial. If you’re looking for some new pads or considering that it might be time to start covering up a bit, take a look!

“Markit Zero” Crash Section

July 8, 2015

When you go as hard as the Markit team does, you’re bound to take some nasty crashes… Especially while pushing yourself for a video part. That was definitely the case for their entire team while filming for the “Markit ZERO” DVD! Watch Dennis Enarson, Chad Kerley, Christian Rigal, Rob Wise, Connor Lodes, Geoff Slattery, Ronnie Napolitan and Mike Jonas take slam after slam after slam to get the clips that made the video so epic! BMX makes you tougher than nails from all the ass kickings you take, that’s for sure!

“This is by far one of the heaviest crash sections you are ever going to see! The crew took a beating for MARKIT ZERO. We had to make sure the BMX world got a behind the scenes look into what it really took to create this DVD. Get ready for over seven minutes of raw, savage falls for your viewing pleasure.
Filmed and edited by Christian Rigal.

Why You Should Throw A BMX Contest or Jam

July 6, 2015

There are a lot of reasons why BMX jams and contests are awesome. We’re not talking X-Games and Dew Tours, we’re talking the smaller, local, less publicized BMX contests and Jams. Over the years, I personally have thrown around 15 or 20 jams or contests at a handful of skateparks around Minnesota. Some have been small, some have been big and some, like the 4th of July, do a lot for the local scene more than a lot of people might think. With each event, you get the opportunity to meet new people, expose people that aren’t familiar with BMX to the sport, spend time with some friends you don’t get to see often and most importantly, have an excuse to have a fun day for those people to enjoy. Over the weekend, we were involved with an event that really opened up our eyes as to just how beneficial it can be when the exposure to people that aren’t familiar with it can actually be. Let’s talk about this…

Mutiny Bikes in Albuquerque – The Land of Enchantment

July 6, 2015

Now this is what we call a MUST SEE! A few weeks back, Mutiny Bikes‘ Mariano Santiago, Andy Martinez, Jeff Wescott, Justin Simpson, Grant Castelluzzo and Adam Accardi loaded up in the van to spend a few days cruising the plentiful spots of Albuquerque, New Mexico! This video, filmed and edited by Ryan Navazio, is the outcome of the trip. Packed full of damn good riding and great spots, you can find plenty of grinds, a whole lot of ass hauling to jump fences and more! We are really digging the timelapse clips throughout this one as well. Hit play because this is one hell of a BMX video!

“The Mutiny team hits the streets of Albuquerque, New Mexico in a 1989 Chevy sport van. Taking advantage of the incredible landscape in an area of the US quickly becoming known as a hotspot for street riding.

Mike Fede in Wilmington

July 3, 2015

Our friend, Eric Silver recently picked himself up a new Panasonic GH4 camera and wanted to put it to good use. He met up with Mike Fede and they spent some time cruising around spots in Wilmington, Delaware. We don’t see all too much from Delaware as far as BMX videos go, but it looks like Mike was able to find some spots to ride! Check out the video above and expect plenty more from Eric and Mike in the future here on The Union!
