There’s no denying that it’s pretty incredible the way technology is progressing these days. When you look back 20 years, a lot of the things you utilize today didn’t exist or it was in very early stages of what it has become today. When it comes to BMX videos, we’ve seen videos go from VHS to DVD to Digital and cameras go from rough and choppy to crystal clear High Definition footage that you can see even the smallest details at 120 frames per second. Thanks to technology we can take all these kinds of footage and cram them into single Blu-Ray disc’s that hold hundreds of hours of footage on them.
The other day, we received a very small package from Chris Rye from Props. Inside, we found a copy of the brand new Collectors Edition Box Set that holds over 20 years of footage on five of those Blu Ray discs that is now available… Let’s talk about this.
Review: Pumped BMX +
A few weeks ago, Pumped BMX was finally released on a console version that works with X-Box One, Playstation, Wii and PC. After playing Pumped BMX and Pumped BMX 2 on iPhone, we were more than excited to give one of the most addicting video games we’ve played a go on a bigger screen. So, we got our hands on a copy of the X-Box One version and have been working our way through the challenges since. We figured since we have logged a few hours on it now, it would be a good time for a review. Let’s talk about it!
Insight: Spotsesh App
When it comes to BMX, spot hunting has always been a part of the challenge. Whether it’s finding street spots, local parks or trails, there’s something about knowing and remembering where all the spots are or finding new ones that you never knew existed that makes it fun. Over the years riders have had different ways of logging spots to remember spots they rode or potentially ride in the future. I mean, how often have you driven by a place and thought “I need to go ride that spot!” then a few weeks later you drive by again and you’re like “I still need to ride that spot. I forgot”? With apps becoming more and more apart of everyones lives making things quite a bit easier, it’s no surprise that BMX riders and skaters are cooking up some rad ideas, too. We were recently introduced to the Spotsesh App and we were really stoked on it. We figured you guys might be into it too, so let’s take a closer look!
Insight: Brotherhood – Oyster RHD Guard Sprocket
A few months back we were tipped off about a brand from Russia called “Brotherhood” that was producing a few different BMX sprockets and small parts. The reason we were so interested is because of a two-piece sprocket they had developed called the Oyster which is similar to an actual oyster was hollow and has two parts that come together to make a solid piece. The other day we received a package in the mail and would you know, there was an Oyster ready for us to get a closer look at. Curious what this thing is all about and how it works? Let’s talk about it…
Insight: Proper Bike Co. – Select Hub Guards
With the ever growing popularity of grinding and finding a way to grind smoother, further and all around better, we’ve seen a lot of innovation from pegs to hub guards over the years. We’ve gone from heavy oversized pegs to titanium, aluminum and plastic pegs and we have seen hub guards in multiple variations as well from guards you zip tie on to designs that snap into place or slide on replacing the existing hardware. However, there’s still room for some innovation. The guys over at Proper Bike Co. have been busy working on their new range of products that have just recently been released worldwide through BMX shops and mail-orders. One of the items in particular we thought was pretty interesting are their new Select hub guards that use a slightly different design than other options on the market. We got the inside scoop on just what makes these guards so special, so let’s take a closer look and find out the details!
Review: The Backbone Video
Back in April we got the first look at a video project the Backbone BMX crew down in Australia were working on. The trailer, which kicked a lot of ass left us really looking forward to its release. Fast forward to the other week and the video was finally released worldwide. Our good friend Jon over at Can You Dig It got a bunch of copies to distribute in the U.S and he hooked it up with a copy. We figured since we were so stoked on the trailer that we better be prepared to do a review once we got our hands on a copy. That day came the other day and the video went straight into the DVD player. Here’s what we thought…
Review: The Shadow Conspiracy – “What Could Go Wrong?”
With fewer and fewer BMX DVD’s being produced every year, it’s getting more and more exciting when an actual BMX video comes out in a hard copy form that you can pop into the DVD player and watch on your TV. What’s even better is when a brand is putting heavy time, energy and resources into producing a video that is worth watching it in that format versus online. Over the course of the past three years, The Shadow Conspiracy team have been busy bouncing around the world stacking clips for their “What Could Go Wrong?” DVD that we have been hearing about since they initially started working on the video. After three years, countless trips and a lot of ups and downs, the video was finally premiered this past weekend in New York City at the House of Vans. Approximately the same time that premiere was going down, we popped open the mailbox to find a copy of the video waiting for us to enjoy. After watching the video, we decided it would be a good idea to get a review out before you drop some money on a copy…
