Weird & Revered – Country Livin’

October 20, 2016

When you don’t live in the city and you only have gravel roads and a lot of woods and fields to work with, you have to get creative to find spots to ride. Justin Schwanke and the Weird & Revered crew have been no strangers to getting creative and this video is a good reminder of this. Hit play to watch them get down on random spots, gaps over roads and things like barrels that were laying around the farm! This is a good change of pace to all the nibbler jibbler ledge edits we see every day.

“Growing up in rural Alberta all of my life, riding back in the day was a much different experience than it is now. As a kid without a car, there weren’t many people to ride with and there wasn’t much to ride. Living in the middle of nowhere meant you had to make your own spots and your own set-ups. When I was young and before I had ramps, I spent a lot of time pedaling around on country roads looking for ‘spots.’ Hardly considered spots by popular standards, these places to ride were as simplistic as could be. One might be a ditch that was smooth enough to jump or another might be a shed to use as a drop. Often you would have to modify the spot with some plywood or shovel work to make it rideable. As unconventional as the set-up may be, it was always what you did with it that mattered most. And naturally, the more creative you got the more entertaining it could be.

Inspired by my buddy, Brodie Gwilliam of Bush League fame ( Watch Brodie’s videos here ), I felt the need to return to this period of my BMX experience. I wanted to make a video chalked full of my own ‘country spots.’ I pedalled and drove around to search for places with potential. Some spots needed a lot of work and others were ready to be ridden. I think I put the most effort into that trailer I found at 0:25. I had to clean all of the junk off of it, cut down a bunch of trees, and make some trails so you could pedal on the grass. Once I had a list of spots and had some of the modifications done, I hit up my friend Colin Reimer to join me. We filmed most of this video in the spring before Colin left for a work term in France and I left to go travel myself. Tyler Steckly came along on some sessions to film and goof around. I don’t think we spent more than 7 days filming and all of the spots were within a 10 km radius of my house. We had a ton of fun making this video and I hope it shows. Enjoy!” -Justin Schwanke

October 19, 2016

Since Scotty Cranmer is still in the hospital, healing up from surgery, getting ready for a move to start rehabilitation to get his life back on track, the crew are stepping up to keep the videos coming until he can take back over. Here’s a look at what Big Boy, Matty Cranmer and the rest of the crew cooked up for clips for their first go. Expect to see a steady flow of footage coming.

Don’t forget to get on the Road 2 Recovery website and donate to help Scotty out — https://road2recovery.com/cause-view/scotty-cranmer/

“WWSD- what would scotty do was actually an idea given to me by his wife Lisa. Listen none of us are capable of doing what Scotty would do but we do know he would love to have a session with all his friends making it all about having fun and a good time. The boys and I all got together the day I got back from Las Vegas and filmed this video for Scotty. Scotty we love you man!”

SOSH Urban Motion 5 – Mati Lasgoity & Antonio Robles

October 19, 2016

Here’s a look at the 5th place video for this years Sosh Urban Motion contest! Mati Lasgoity teamed up with filmer Antonio Robles for their part. As expected with Mati, he brought a ton of nose balance and a good mix of tricks from grinds to big tailwhips to all the spots he came across. This has a pretty laid back vibe, but there’s plenty of heat to take in. Hit play and enjoy! Also, if this is 5th place… We can’t imagine how good 1st place is.

“2nd of the Wild Card #mysoshurbanmotion contest, Barcelona’s Mati Lasgoity & Antonio Robles hang out in the parisian streets to make so huge trick, like a backflip in a Skateboard spots in République, Paris.”
